  • (Video Game Discussion) Life is Strange Season 1 (Spoilers)

I recently completed a game that I know has a pretty popular following, and definitely shares bloodlines with a lot of our favorite sagas, be it "Buffy", "Veronica Mars", and almost endless genre movie classics. So I couldn't help but wonder if anybody else had played it because... if you have, you know it's time for some thoughts and feels!

I may, even if it's just for my own benefit, just go bonkers with exegesis about this game and all the permutations (I've only played the first season, so only that season is okay for spoilers on this thread) just so I can get them out. There may even be a fic renaissance for me. It's that damn affecting.

But if anybody else has played it and has thoughts, this will be the spot!

I only play in Dota 2. By the way, it's a very good game, I would say it's the best game I've ever played. What do you think? I'm sure many who read this often play video games, no matter Dota2, Minecraft or another video game. A big plus in Dota 2 is the fact that it is possible to do mmr boosting service. Have any of you had such an experience improving your Dota2 account?

Recently played Jedi Fallen Order which was really good. The voice actor's did there work really well, with a fun set of world's to explore.

Is this a video game discussing thread or is about Life is strange?

Well, it was started to discuss Life is Strange but apparently nobody has given even the slightest of bleeps about it in the year and a half since I posted it.

Which is a damnable shame since honestly that game draws so heavily on fiction that this forum cares deeply about. "Buffy" even has a (harder than most to find) in game easter egg.

I played Life is Strange on XBox and loved it. Didn't see the Buffy Easter Egg, though.

I do see that the sequel/new season is currently available on XBox Live or Game Pass, I can't remember. I've got an XBox One X and play it pretty often when I can't sleep or I'm stuck when writing something.

Episode 1, in the parking lot, there's a car with a Buffy license plate, but you have to walk to other side of it and pan the camera around so it's less obvious than all the many other license plate easter eggs.

I feel like that game has a lot of debt to "Buffy" and to "Veronica Mars" (it's a shame there's no direct easter egg reference to that show).

              Also (episode 5 spoiler)
              Spoiler:

Well, I play a lot of video games so it would be nice to have a place to have a main gaming discussion thread.

However, I haven't played on Life is strange but I heard a lot about it would you recommend it?

With my most profound enthusiasm I would recommend it. It was the first thing to affect me as profoundly as Buffy and I've now been babbling about Buffy for 20 years almost

I've nearly completed the current game I'm playing on, and I have no clue on what game to play on next so, the recommendation is genuinely appreciated.

Have you heard or seen Tell Me Why? it's the same developers from (Life is strange), and it does look intriguing.

Tell Me Why is a game developed for Microsoft, where the Life is Strange series is for Square Enix, but Dontnod is definitely trying to capture that same sort of aesthetic and tone. From arm's reach it sounds like they are probably stories that could be set in the same universe in a Sony/Marvel way probably won't have any overt references because the publishers wouldn't share.

Life is Strange has titles developed by two studios - Dontnod produced the original and the (anthological) sequel; Deck Nine studios produced a prequel to the original (absolutely do not play the prequel first. Prequels are prequels, they are meant to be consumed after).

I won't even really tease LIS directly - I'd always recommend playing it not knowing the first damn thing about it. Playstyle wise, it's a point-and-click puzzler with very minor QTE gameplay, and it's story is a branching narrative dialogue based design similar to the best of Telltale games like "The Walking Dead". It's cheap as hell, you can even get the whole game offline on GOG now, but can still get it on steam or console.

Thanks for the information about Life is strange.

But I do find (Life is Strange) is very intriguing to play.

Some things that caught my attention on 'Tell Me Why' is the tone and aesthetic style. So I'm hoping to see that style when I do play on 'Life is strange'.

                        Have you played on Oxenfree?

I started it but put it down. Was playing on mobile and I don't know if it's a bug or the game design, but I was basically watching a game of smaller visual character scale than Super Mario and it was a bit hard to stay into it. I know it's highly recommended as "LIS-like". The games on those lists I"ve played have been Heavy Rain, Walking Dead, Until Dawn, Detroit: Become Human, Beyond Two Souls, etc.
