You watch this, and yet can't take Chernobyl? Weird.

I'm the opposite - I've just pre-ordered Chernobyl (it's out next month). But HMT? Every time I go into FOPP with the lads they offer to buy it for me and every time I've refused. Reading it was depressing enough...I can't bring myself to watch it.

It's a cautionary tale. Of course the people who most need to watch it are the ones who won't.

Just watched the last ep of S2 before I start the next season and omg it was as heartbreaking as I remembered. June has had just about enough! Cannot wait to see what she does next.

So happy Emily got away and hope we see more of her next season, I don't want her story to be over. Her wife and child are in Canada so I hope we see them reunited.

Just broke my third re-watch of Lucifer 1 - 4 to finish watching Good Omens and I wish I hadn't. DT gurned all the way through it - it was like watching a pantomime. The book was much better. Hell - the Good Omen X Lucifer fan-fic I'm reading is better!...I'm going back to Luci...

                Ep 1 was tremendous.
                Spoiler:
Emily escaped with June's baby. I was in tears when she walked through the hospital and everyone applauded. Loved Serena burning down the house, 'burn mother****er' and the ending, when June gets Lawrence as her new master and she says 'you're not going to be any trouble are you?' and she replies 'no sir' and has that smile on her face

Just when you think it can't get any more grim S3 E6. The handmaids are silenced.

I'm not there yet. I was hoping S3 was going to get a bit more positive

I'm hoping for a positive ending too. The book talks about the end of the regime so we know it's not a dynasty.

As I said, I found the book grim. I'm still avoiding the TV series like the plague.

I'm watching Season 3 but I'm taking it really slow. It's been really good so far. Having not read the novel, I always question their ability to get the plot going without it being boring and I am being stood corrected each season.

I've just watched episode 9 which I thought was an amazing episode. Some of this season's episodes have been all over the place and verging on the ridiculous, so I'd say it's a very mixed season.

I've seen about a half of it and they always take it slow. The season finale is what reels me in each time so we'll see.

I just finished Alias Grace . It is also based on an Atwood book. It's only 6 episodes but I really liked it. It has a feminist perspective but doesn't feel as dark as the handmaids tale, maybe because it is set in the past rather than the future

S3 was a bit of a step down for me. I liked the finale a lot. But the middle part of the season dragged and felt a bit been there done that. I know that June is the show's title character, but I think it would benefit from ending her story. I think there's more interesting thing to be done with the other characters (Emily and the stuff in Canada etc..).

Writing, directing and acting wise this has been one of the best series of the last decade. I feel it might have peaked though.

The Handmaid's Tale has always been very violent, but season 4 is like torture porn. I have to keep fast forwarding as it gets too much for me.

I've only ever seen odd snippets of episodes and don't know a great deal beyond the basic premise. I had no idea they'd done so many seasons.

It's a good show, but it's gone a bit ott once it overtook the book.

Hasn't there been a reasonably recent sequel to the original book? Or was that included in the series so far anyway?

There was a sequel, but I don't think it's the same as the show.

Stoney and Priceless. The show films not too far from me and gets a lot of coverage here being from a Canadian author. So while I haven't seen much of it myself, I know the basics: The first season pretty much covers the entire novel except for an "epilogue" set far in the future. After the show took off, the author released a second book set 15 years later which is related but not a direct continuation per say. There's going to be a spinoff show for that. There's at least one more season of the first show but it doesn't sound like they want to end it anytime soon.

The first season was very powerful. The subsequent seasons get harder and harder for me to watch because they push the envelope father and farther. I agree with Priceless that it almost veers on torture porn in season 4.

Considering what's happening lately, it's almost a bit too 'real' for me as it reflects horrors happening every day around the world. In some ways, it's an anti-escapist TV show.

I've two episodes saved to watch, but I just can't bring myself to watch them, it's far too depressing. And there'll be a Season 5! Dread to think what that will entail.
