    OPEN ON:

"Sunburn" by Muse plays in the background.

The camera moves across the red, sparkling walls, as a table comes into view. Various people are seen playing card games at the table, all of them fairly elegantly dressed, indicating that this is a casino. The casino workers are busy attending to the game, but the camera does not focus on this table. Instead of continues moving at a steady speed across a second, a third.

We focus on the fourth table as the drums start to play in the song. Four men and three women are sat around playing poker. One of the men is Devyn.

The lyrics of the song begin. Everyone at Devyn's table is looking from their cards to the other players. One of the women places her cards down looking annoyed. Two of the men do the same. Devyn glances at the fourth man, who also folds.

Come waste your millions here, secretly she says

Devyn glances at one of the two remaining women in the game. She looks at him without expression.

    Woman: You're bluffing.

Another corporate show, a guilty conscience grows

Devyn smiles and slowly turns over his cards. The woman's expression changes to surprise as she sees he has a Royal Flush. The other players look irritated

And I'll feel a guilty conscience grow

Devyn scoops his winnings towards him. However he makes eye contact with the third woman, who does not look annoyed. She simply stares at Devyn.

And I'll feel a guilty conscience grow

Devyn stares at the woman as the song becomes much livelier. The woman stares back still. Devyn's arm moves slightly.

She burns like the sun, and I can't look away

The four of spades falls from his sleeve and slowly falls to the ground. We see a shot beneath ground level as it hits the floor. Devyn looks up, his confidence suddenly gone. The woman smiles slightly.

She'll burn our horizons, make no mistake

There is a wide shot of the scene as some of the casino staff begin to rush over to Devyn's table. Other players look over to see what is happening.

    FADE TO:

Devyn is shaving in front of the mirror in his tiny en suite in his new room, shirtless. As he shaves down his jaw-line he flinches slightly, gritting his teeth; he has cut open one of the almost-healed cuts on his face. Devyn frowns and places some tissue over the small trickle of blood that has emerged from the cut. He slowly stands upright, away from the mirror, holding the tissue against his neck still, as it soaks up the blood.

Kelcie VO: Wait a minute, I'm confused.

    CUT TO:

Kelcie and Aura are sat at a table. Josef can be seen at a table behind them. Grace walks past in the background.

Kelcie: I thought Juliet was the boss around here?

Aura: Most of the time she is. But one woman couldn't run this place on her own. Liliana pretty much calls the shots, and above her there's...well we don't really know. I mean, I'm sure someone does, but that person ain't me.

Kelcie nods as she takes this in.

Kelcie: Isn't it kinda scary? Not knowing?

Aura: Probably be a hell of a lot scarier knowing who was crazy enough to build a place like this.

    Kelcie half smiles.

    Kelcie: So...who's Liliana?

    CUT TO:

A woman just over 40, with long, brunette hair, is reading a file. She is wearing a smart red top and a black skirt. She looks up, with a neutral smile on her face and

    Woman (Liliana): He seems adequate.

Juliet is stood in front of her desk, her arms folded.

    Juliet: Hopefully more than that.

Liliana nods. She looks back at the file. Juliet watches her a little nervously. Lilana glances up.

Liliana: There's been discussion on The Board concerning the recent...incidents.

She begins to walk towards Juliet. Juliet exhales, hesitating.

Juliet: A lot has happened over the last few days, and...I'm not trying to make excuses-

Liliana: No one's trying to judge your actions Juliet, let me make that clear. Your capability isn't being questioned, and your position isn't under threat. But...considering the direction the City Council is taking, you could be seeing a lot more in the way of...incidents, in the near future. I'd just like to make sure you and your staff are prepared for that.

    Juliet nods.

Juliet: If we weren't last week...we are now.

    Liliana nods.

    Liliana: Good.

    She smiles.

Liliana: Same time next week. Take care.

She briskly throws aside Devyn's file on to a nearby chair and turns to leave. Juliet watches her leave and closes her eyes, exhaling.

    CUT TO:

Liliana walks away from Juliet's office, walking past Tegan. She smiles vaguely at Tegan.

    Liliana: Good morning.

Tegan manages a weak smile as Liliana walks past her. Tegan stops and looks after Liliana with an expression of distaste. She looks at the ajar door of Juliet's office and walks over to it.

    CUT TO:

Tegan moves her head around the door a little cautiously. Juliet is by her desk, browsing Devyn's file absent-mindedly. She looks up as she hears Tegan walk in. She smiles.

    Juliet: Hey.

    Tegan: Hey. How are you?

    Juliet hesitates.

    Juliet: I'm ok.

    Tegan nods, not entirely convinced.

Tegan: So, meeting with The Queen of the Passive Aggressive. How'd that go?

Juliet sighs and heads over to a cabinet as she talks.

Juliet: I can never tell anymore. Maybe she's pleased, maybe she's secretly plotting my ultimate doom, I'm too tired to try and figure Liliana out.

She begins to sort through a number of files in the cabinet.

Juliet: All I care about is that she gave Devyn the all clear.

Tegan raises her eyebrows a fraction.

Tegan: Oh. S-so that's it now? He's gonna start working here with us and-and we're gonna be working with him?

    Juliet glances up at Tegan.

Tegan: Not that there's a problem...

Juliet: I know how you feel about him. But there's more to him than that. Yesterday should have convinced you of that.

Tegan: Well, yeah he went through a lot; I'm not saying he didn't. I'm just not sure it changes everything about a person. Just cause someone's a victim, it doesn't automatically make them a hero.

    Juliet frowns.

Juliet: I'm not saying he is.

Tegan: Then isn't he still the guy who had a questionable sense of humour and a tendency to turn up where you don't want him to?

    Juliet walks towards Tegan.

Juliet: Now I know he's not that guy. Look it's been a while since anyone half decent walked in here, and my decision is final, ok?

Tegan looks a little shocked at this as Juliet turns around again. She walks over to the cabinet and closes it shut.

THEMESONG: "Not Gonna Get Us" - Tatu

The eerie start of the song plays as we see grey smoke. "Haven" in black, torn letters fades in. It disappears as the drums start. The smoke is gone also. There are a series of quick shots: a gun being fired. A high-heeled foot stepping next to a pole. A syringe injecting someone's arm. A knife being raised. A key turning in a lock. Coins scattering on a table. . A close up of a woman's lips as she applies lipstick. A shovel being forced into the ground. A close up of someone handcuffing another person's wrists. A hand flicking a cigarette lighter on. A pair of pliers approaching someone's finger. A dagger covered in blood hitting the ground. A hand grabbing on to someone's arm. A close up of an eye opening wide.

As the song suddenly becomes more energetic, there is a montage of criminal records, each face only seen for a fraction of a second.

The camera zooms towards Juliet looking shocked.

The credit flickers on to the screen. There is a shot of Juliet walking with a neutral expression on her face. There is a shot of Juliet pointing a gun looking resolute. There is a shot of Juliet turning her face, looking serious. The credit flickers away.

There is a shot of Tegan typing on a computer.

The credit flickers on to the screen. There is a shot of Tegan turning, the flash of sirens causing her to shield her eyes. There is a shot of Tegan putting her hand over mouth. There is a shot of Tegan cocking her head slightly, smiling. The credit flickers away.

There is a shot of Grace carrying a plate of food.

The credit flickers on to the screen. There is a shot of Grace putting her head in her hands. A shot of her putting her finger over her lips. A shot of her smiling a little. The credit flickers away.

There is a shot of an explosion. A shot of Grace crying in Gael's arms. A shot of Devyn turning to Tegan looking shocked.

The credit flickers on to the screen. There is a shot of Stevens turning, looking out of breath. A shot of her walking looking formidable. A shot of her examining a gun. The credit flickers away.

There is a shot of a corridor in Haven. The camera zooms through to the lobby, spinning around, backing through the front entrance. The doors close.

    ACT I

    CUT TO:

Gael is buttoning up his shirt in the mirror. Behind him Grace is sat on the bed, slipping her feet into her shoes.

Gael: Can't believe I keep missing all the excitement.

    Grace looks across at him.

Grace: Yeah, you should feel really bad you missed the hostage situation, it was a blast.

Gael turns and smiles at her a little as he fastens his collar.

    Gael: You all right?

Grace rolls her eyes a little as she lowers her own collar.

Grace: Not like it's the first near-death experience I've had.

Gael: Well yeah I've had a few too, but I reckon most people'd understand if you were a little shaken by the fact some bitch was about to cut you up.

Grace stands up and s steps next to Gael.

Grace: "Most people" aren't around. It's the ones that are around that I have to deal with. And I'm not even near the top of the leader board around here when it comes to life or death situations.

She straightens Gael's collar and smiles a little. Gael smiles back. Grace exhales.

Grace: Anyway, you still haven't told me about certain Jacob details-

Gael's smile fades and he turns away to get his jacket. Grace watches him, reacting to his change of mood.

Grace: So I'm guessing something big happened.

    Gael turns to her.

Gael: It was always gonna be big, it was the first time I've seen him since...

He exhales and sits down on his small bed. Grace looks sympathetic and slowly sits down next to Gael as he appears to take interest in the arrangement of the floorboards. Grace looks at him.

    Grace: You kill him?

Gael looks at her. He can't help but smile. He rolls his eyes slightly.

    Gael: No.

    Grace smiles back.

    Grace: That's impressive.

Gael smiles more genuinely. He then looks away as he seems to consider things more deeply.

Gael: We talked...and then suddenly I was ready to crush his neck with my bare hands...and then he did what he always does and talked-

    Grace: Oh.

Grace's expression indicates she is aware of how Jacob has used words to manipulate Gael in the past.

Grace: I's easier that you didn't. And you know maybe you will some other time...

Gael looks at her, a little surprised.

Grace: But I'm guessing by your expression...that's not something you really want.

Gael looks away again, considering this; he knows it is true. Grace smiles slightly and rubs the back of his hand.

    Grace: We are so late.

Gael looks at her, amused. Grace smiles back more widely and gets up. Gael follows, perhaps more at peace than he was before.

    CUT TO:

Bethany is sweeping the floor near to the till. Mark is stood nearby stamping prices on to products.

Bethany: Sometimes I really wish Royce would get over his issues with sunlight, or whatever, and come up here to do this.

Mark looks over at her, and smiles a little.

Mark: Preaching to the pope baby. But not exactly anything we can do about that.

Bethany: Why? Everyone here has problems. You don't see me refusing to put out the dairy section just because of my milk phobia.

Mark looks at her. Bethany stares back.

    Bethany: What?

Mark: Uh, I think Royce is probably better left alone. Who knows what he might do if anyone tried to force him to do something he doesn't want. There could be tears.

Bethany sighs and pushes the broom against the shelf she is standing next to.

Bethany: Yeah well, there's gonna be more than that soon if-

The door opens. Bethany and Mark immediately look up. A woman of about 50 with short brunette hair has walked through. She is wearing a navy-blue jacket and a long skirt, with smart high-heeled shoes. She smiles politely, but is evidently anxious.

Woman: Hello...I, uh, I'm looking for something rather specific, I-I don't know if one of you could help me?

    She looks hopeful.

    CUT TO:

Juliet and the woman just introduced are standing in the room. The woman is looking around at the small room, supported by not a great deal of faith.

Juliet: If you need know where we are.

The woman looks at her and tries to smile.

Woman: This is already enough; thank you.

Juliet nods, smiling back, and walks out. As the door closes, the woman stares into space, closing her eyes.

    CUT TO:

Juliet walks along the corridor. Devyn appears from the doorway leading to the staff corridor. Juliet hesitates as she sees him. Devyn smiles.

    Devyn: Morning.

    Juliet smiles back.

    CUT TO:

Devyn and Juliet are sat down at a table, in front of a laptop.

Juliet: This way you can work and make sure nothing's going wrong at the same time. Which can be anything from a light going out to...well you've seen.

Juliet looks awkward as she eyes the area where Westler killed himself not too long ago. Devyn notices.

    Devyn: Good idea.

Juliet looks at him and nods.

Juliet: Uh, you should have no trouble with this really, it's just Excel. Just don't go online without asking me. Server's usually secure but...there's always a risk...

    Devyn nods.

Juliet: And just let Grace or Gael know if you need anything; there's a lot of food, none of it's particularly good but it's what we have.

Devyn smiles to himself. Juliet looks curious.

    Juliet: What?

    Devyn looks at her.

Devyn: You uh, you have all this food, a private internet connection, electricity from...somewhere, and no one who stays here pays anything.

    Juliet hesitates.

    Juliet: We accept donations.

Devyn: Right. And you get them how often?

Devyn raises an eyebrow. Juliet sighs.

Juliet: Look, you don't question the system ok? It just works out.

Devyn: Someone must have a lot of money then.

Juliet looks at him, a little more seriously.

    Juliet: Someone must.

Devyn looks at her, perhaps trying to work out if she doesn't know, or if she is just trying to make Devyn think she doesn't. He then looks past her to see the woman from before looking around vaguely.

    Devyn: New?

    Juliet turns.

    Juliet: Oh, Angela.

    She turns back to Devyn.

    Juliet: Yeah, she just arrived.

    Devyn: She looks kinda lost.

Juliet watches Devyn as he stares at Angela. Angela sits down at a table where another middle-aged woman is sat. She smiles at her. The other woman looks uninterested and gets up to go to the canteen. Angela looks deflated and stares away awkwardly. Devyn looks concerned and stands up. Juliet looks confused as he walks over to Angela.

    Devyn: Hey there.

Angela looks up, a little surprised that someone is talking to her.

    Angela: Hello.

Devyn: I'm Devyn, I work here.

    Angela smiles a little wider.

    Angela: Oh, I'm-I'm Angela.

Devyn smiles, pulls a chair out and sits down. Juliet watches, frowning. Grace is watching from behind the canteen, placing rolls of bread out.

Juliet gets up and begins to walk over to Devyn and Angela.

Devyn: So how long are you staying here for?

Angela: Oh, I'm not sure yet, it's...I mean, I came here in quite a hurry, so-

Juliet OS: Uh, Devyn, I need a word with you.

Devyn looks up to see Juliet next to him. Juliet smiles at Angela and then looks at Devyn pointedly. Devyn hesitates.

    Devyn: Uh, ok.

    He turns back to Angela.

    Devyn: I'll be right back.

Angela nods, smiling. Devyn gets up and follows Juliet out into the lobby. Grace sighs as she watches them walk away.

    CUT TO:

Juliet stands near the entrance to the dining area, looking impatient. Devyn joins her. She looks him in the eye.

    Juliet: What are you doing?

    Devyn looks confused.

Devyn: Having a conversation. I didn't think that was such a crime, though even if it is-

Juliet: You were getting involved. With her life, with her problems. That's not what we do. If they ask, we do what we can, but this isn't rehab.

    Devyn stares at her.

    Devyn: Why?

Juliet looks surprised; she wasn't prepared for this question.

Juliet: B-because it can't be. We start trying to help the guests out the goodness of our hearts, and the damage we could do...

Devyn: What about the damage we could heal?

    Juliet exhales, closing her eyes.

Devyn: I mean come on; you and I are no different to them.

Tegan walks out from the office behind the reception and stops as she sees Juliet and Devyn together. Neither of them see her, as they stare intently at one another.

Juliet: Really? So there is nothing that separates people like you, and...and I from people like Larius, and Rebecca?

Devyn's face stiffens. Tegan stares seriously at the couple. Juliet's expression softens a little. Devyn swallows.

Devyn: Maybe not. Except different choices.

    Juliet hesitates.

Juliet: Some people commit crimes, and even if they don't regret what they did...they still have something inside of them that makes them human. Some good. They see an old woman struggling with her shopping, and they help her. They throw fifty cense into a homeless guy's jar. And maybe they kill someone later that day, but the crime doesn't become them. And then there are people, that I have seen, that don't have anything other than malice, and cruelty. They can't be helped. And you can never truly tell who's hiding behind a smile.

Tegan stares fixatedly at them. Devyn seems to be thinking and then notices her out of the corner of his eye. Juliet follows his gaze. Tegan looks awkward and sits down, as if preoccupied. Devyn looks away from her and back to Juliet.

Devyn: You've seen bad stuff, so have I. But it sounds like you've seen some good too, and Juliet, I don't think it's right to just turn your back on that because of what might happen. Someone cares enough to build and maintain this place. You still haven't given me a convincing reason why we shouldn't care enough to do a little more. And you've offered me a chance to try. Unless you wanna take that away...

Juliet looks serious. Tegan glances up, wondering what will be said next. Juliet turns away from Devyn.

    Juliet: Don't say I didn't warn you.

Juliet walks away, toward the main corridor. Devyn watches her go. He then looks at Tegan. She says nothing, and avoids his gaze. The two stand in silence.

      ACT II

      CUT TO:

      INT. HOUSE ? DAY

An old woman opens her front door. Devyn is stood on the porch. He looks younger, and is wearing a suit. He smiles at the woman.

Devyn: Ms Beckens? Mr Shawly, we spoke earlier on the phone.

      The old woman smiles.

Ms Beckens: Oh, yes, yes, thank you very much for coming, do come in.

She wanders off inside. Devyn follows, looking around him as he does.

      CUT TO:

Ms Beckens walks in and pulls out a chair for Devyn.

Ms Beckens: I hope you don't mind the mess; I've been doing some clearing. I still can't find the previous Will I'm afraid...

She wanders to the counter and starts moving some papers. Devyn smiles at her as he sits down.

Devyn: Don't worry Ms Beckens, we'll sort that out when we have to. We can easily start a new one whenever you want.

      Ms Beckens looks pleased.

Ms Beckens: That's very kind of you Mr Shawly. I think uh, today would be a good time to begin. I'm not getting any younger.

      Devyn nods, still smiling pleasantly.

Devyn: None of us Ms Beckens, and you know, it's not age that's the issue, it's being able to ensure that your money is going somewhere you want it to go. And that's what I'm here to help you with.

Ms Beckens nods looking happy to have Devyn here. Devyn gets out some forms.

Devyn: There are just a few forms you need to sign.

Ms Beckens: Oh, yes, of course. Uh, would you like a cup of coffee?

      CUT TO:

Devyn lifts up a cup of coffee in the present day and finishes it off. He types for a few seconds on his laptop. He then looks over to see Angela drinking on her own. He looks hesitant. Grace walks up to Devyn and takes his empty cup. She smiles a little.

Grace: Hey. First day working out ok?

Devyn looks up. He smiles back.

Devyn: Not too bad, thanks. Think I'm already causing a few ripples though.

      Grace: Uh huh.

Grace glances over at Angela as she stands up, and begins walking back in the direction of her room. Grace looks back at Devyn.

      Grace: Want some advice?

      Devyn's smile falters.

Devyn: Think I know what it might be.

      Grace smiles weakly.

Grace: Guess I'll see you later then.

Devyn nods. Grace raises her eyebrows and walks away.

      CUT TO:

Grace walks in, throwing the coffee cup in the bin. Gael is pouring soup from a large pot into a bowl.

      Gael: How's he doing?

      Grace picks up some plates.

Grace: Oh, you know, talking his talk. Tryin' to connect.

Gael: Oh, right. How dare he.

      Grace sighs.

Grace: We both know how it ends Gael.

      Gael puts the bowl down.

Gael: What, cause of what happened one time? Look I know that was bad, but...good things can actually happen sometimes.

      Grace hesitates. Gael looks away.

Gael: Either way looks like Jules doesn't wanna listen to Devyn or me.

      Grace looks at him.

Grace: You talked to her didn't you.

Gael hesitates but then nods. Grace frowns.

Gael: Maybe it's time to start trying out something new. All I'm saying.

Grace hesitates. She stares through the open door to see Devyn still working.

      CUT TO:

Juliet is sat behind her desk. She looks troubled. There is a knock at her door. She glances over at it.

      Juliet: Yeah.

The door opens. Tegan walks in. She kisses her teeth and inhales.

Tegan: So, do I take it I'm allowed to have an opinion now?

Juliet closes her eyes, and wipes her hands over her face. She looks at Tegan.

      Juliet: I'm sorry. Sit down?

Juliet looks hopeful. Tegan smiles for a second and walks forward. She sits down on one of the chairs opposite Juliet's desk. Juliet sighs.

Juliet: Take it you saw almost all of that back there with Devyn.

      Tegan: Mm, I did.

      Juliet looks conflicted.

Tegan: Look like you're having third thoughts.

      Juliet smiles momentarily.

Juliet: I don't know what thoughts I'm having.

Tegan nods. There is a short pause.

Tegan: What you said back there, I-I agree with a lot.

      Juliet stares.

Tegan: But...I kinda could see...what Devyn meant.

      Juliet smiles very faintly.

      Juliet: You too huh?

Tegan looks surprised. Juliet leans forwards, exhaling.

Juliet: Gael and I had a talk yesterday. He thinks...a little more integration could be good. And Aura...she obviously agrees, cause she and that Kelcie girl look like they've known each other forever.

      Tegan nods slowly.

Tegan: Ok. What do you think?

      Juliet pauses.

Juliet: I think...about the way Devyn looked at that woman. There was something in his eyes...

      Tegan narrows her brow.

Juliet: Like she was a target. And it just reminded me of how...

Juliet trails off but Tegan seems to have realised what she is insinuating.

Tegan: You think he's not in it for the caring? Even after he said all that?

      Juliet considers this.

Juliet: All I know is that conmen are experts at making you think something that isn't. I just wish I knew Devyn well enough to look past that.

      Tegan nods.

Tegan: Guess that's gonna take time.

Juliet nods also. She stares into space.

      Juliet: Guess so.

"A Lack of Color Here" by Death Cab For Cutie begins to play.

      CUT TO:

The instrumental introduction of the song plays. Devyn walks with his laptop under his arm. He watches Trey glare at another man as they walk past one another. He notices the woman who avoided Angela before, sitting alone, staring into space solemnly.

      CUT TO:

Devyn almost walks into Mark as he walks in the opposite direction. Mark looks surprised but smiles. The music grows quieter.

      Mark: Steady dude.

      Devyn: Sorry.

      Mark shrugs.

      Mark: No worries.

      And when I see you
I really see you upside down

Devyn nods and walks past. Mark watches after him.

Mark: I'm Mark. Just so ya know.

Devyn looks at him. He smiles.

Devyn: Guessing you know my name already.

Mark: You guess right. Word travels...well, instantaneously, around here.

      But my brain knows better
It picks you up and turns you around

      Devyn backtracks a little.

      Devyn: I'm getting that.

      Mark nods.

      Turns you around

Mark: Guess you're just starting to realise what you signed up for huh?

      Turns you around

Devyn hesitates. Mark seems to take this for a yes.

Mark: Don't worry man. Gets better. Soon you start getting to know the people round'll begin to feel like a weird, depressing sort of home.

      If you feel discouraged
When there's a lack of color here

      Devyn looks surprised.

Devyn: You talk to the guests?

      Mark nods.

Mark: Sure. I mean, some of the others might disapprove, but...thing is, they have their little group but so do we. Juliet's cool an' all, but she gets worried about human connections and stuff.

Devyn looks serious. Mark looks worried that he might have said something wrong.

      Please don't worry lover
It's really bursting at the seams
      Absorbing everything
      The spectrum's A to Z

Mark: Not that I'm saying she's emotionally retarded or anything.

Devyn looks at him, as if he has been thinking about something else. He smiles.

Devyn: Course not. I'll uh, see ya later. And thanks.

Devyn walks away. Mark watches him, a little confused. The music ends.

      CUT TO:

Juliet walks out of her office. She gasps suddenly as she sees Trey standing in front. She closes her eyes, exhaling.

Juliet: You should know better than to do that around here.

Trey cocks his head a little and smiles.

Trey: Think I'm stupid enough to try something on you?

      Juliet looks annoyed.

      Juliet: What do you want?

Trey looks down and then up again, his smile fading.

      Trey: A word I guess.

Juliet waits impatiently. Behind the corner of the corridor, Angela appears. She listens to their conversation.

Juliet: Well I don't have all day to wait for-

Trey: You killed that chick yesterday.

Juliet looks surprised. After a second she purses her lips together.

      Juliet: And?

Trey narrows his eyes a little. Angela looks horrified.

Trey: Some of us were wondering who's gonna be next on your list.

Juliet pulls her head back in surprise. Trey maintains eye contact.

Trey: Seems like handing out a death sentence wasn't too difficult for you. Most people in here've done worse than her so...are we safe here, Juliet? Or you feeling righteous?

Juliet narrows her eyes, not liking what Trey is insinuating.

Juliet: Rebecca Rayne threatened Grace's life. Not to mention what she did to Devyn. I did what I had to do.

      Trey glares.

Trey: But it was cause he threatened Harajuku that you flicked that little knife o' yours. Ain't like you really care deep down if one of us guests are in trouble, right?

Juliet inches closer to Trey, staring him straight in the eyes.

Juliet: Next time you're in one of your little fights; you know, the ones that you always seem to start, cause there's no girlfriend for you to smack around instead? The kind of fight you and Westler had. Maybe next time...I'll just sit back and watch you fight to the death. How about that? Because you're right; I don't care about you Trey. You mighta helped me once or twice. But you're rotten to the core.

Trey stares back, trying to give as good as he's getting.

Juliet: I'd happily watch you drop dead. Different circumstances, I'd probably kill you myself.

Angela hurries away, looking deeply affected by what she has heard.

Juliet: But I'm not gonna let that happen here. Cause it wouldn't end with you. It wouldn't end. That's why the next time you fight...I'm gonna break it up. And then you'll go back and talk with Josef about how you would've won if I hadn't got in your way. But just remember what happened last time you took your anger out on someone. Cause time after next...I might just have to exert my authority and take you upstairs. Are we clear?

Trey doesn't respond. Juliet doesn't wait for an answer and walks away toward the lobby. Trey falls out of focus as she does.

Trey: You wanna know why I threw Westler through a table?

Juliet halts and turns round as Trey comes back into focus. Juliet narrows her eyes at him once again.

Juliet: You think I can't already guess?

Trey takes a step towards her, his expression dark. Juliet looks as if she is trying not to show that she is intimidated.

Trey: He was telling us to leave. Me and Josef. Maybe some others too.

      Juliet's expression changes to surprise.

Trey: Said we should give ourselves up. So we can heal.

Trey looks disgusted with the word he just uttered. Juliet's brow narrows as she glances at the floor. Trey continues to glare.

Trey: The guy was full of crap. Now I don't know why he slit his own throat, but fact is: it wasn't cause of me. In fact, now I think about wasn't till you got involved that he freaked out.

Juliet stares at him again as Trey takes another two steps towards her.

Trey: So I say again...which one of us is gonna be next? Cause I ain't got much faith in the system.

Juliet stares at him for a few seconds, a mixture of thoughts streaming through her mind.

Juliet: Then you know where the door is.

She walks away quickly this time. Trey looks unimpressed and turns the other way.

      Not your whore

        ACT III

        CUT TO:

EXT. OF A CLUB (named Starlight) ? NIGHT

Music can be heard from within the club.

        CUT TO:

        INT. CLUB

The stylishly designed club is very crowded. Many people are dancing to "Clutch" by Shea Seger.

        So there

A man is sat at the bar. He takes a large swig of his drink and places it down again. The man is Devyn.

You got me in your clutch again

He goes out of focus as the camera shows the length of the bar behind him. In the background the barmaids come into focus. One of them is looking at Devyn. It is the woman who caught him cheating at the casino.

        So there
        So there

        She walks over to Devyn.

I love your touch and that voodoo that you do so well

        Woman: It's been a while.

Devyn looks up. He cocks his head is surprise.

        Devyn: Molly?

It's got me spinning around and round

        The woman (Molly) smiles.

So let me in your world

        Devyn looks at her, intrigued.

        Devyn: You lost me $5000.

Let me in your world for a while

        She looks back, smiling.

Molly: Maybe...I can pay it off? I finish at 2.

        She raises an eyebrow.

        Let me in your world

        Devyn smiles back slightly

So I can sing to you

        CUT TO:

        INT. DARK ROOM

Molly shoves Devyn into a wall. They kiss passionately. Molly's hands move underneath his shirt as he clutches her hips.

        Oh no
You got me going crazy for you baby

Molly moves back slightly. She smiles. She leans her head back as she thrusts her waist towards Devyn's.

        Oh no
You made me go insane for you baby

        CUT TO:

Juliet is stood in the middle of one of the huge rows of criminal records. She is hurriedly looking through one in particular: Westler's. She flicks through page after page, searching for something. Just as she is about to turn yet another page over, she stops and reads. Her brow narrows, as she stares worriedly at the text in front of her. She looks up: she must make a decision.

        CUT TO:

Grace is stood behind the counter. She is holding a bottle of tablets in her hand and pours several out on to her palm. She puts all but one back into the bottle and places the one remaining in her mouth. She takes a glass of water and swallows.

Voice OS: Don't suppose you got any of those to spare?

Grace turns to see Carla standing on the other side of the counter. Carla smiles a little shakily, as she glances from Grace to the bottle on the counter. Grace smiles.

Grace: Oh these? You don't want. Unless you wanna feel your stomach is trying to make the rest of you collapse.

Carla looks confused. Grace picks up the bottle.

        Grace: These are legit. Sorry.

Carla looks disappointed but nods, smiling a little. She walks away. Grace watches her and sighs before putting the bottle in her pocket.

        CUT TO:

Carla walks in the direction of the first floor, and is about to head down the short corridor above the stairs when Devyn walks out from the main corridor. Carla catches his eye. The two smile at each other, despite Carla looking preoccupied.

        CUT TO:

Gael is mopping the floor. Grace can be seen in the background, placing out meals for the evening. Tegan walks in from the back door. Gael looks up and smiles.

        Gael: All right?

Tegan places some papers down and looks at him, looking hesitant.

        Tegan: I dunno...

        Gael looks concerned.

        Tegan: Wanna go out?

Gael smiles, but there is a hint of uncertainty in his expression.

        Gael: Bit risky.

Tegan: Well that's the wonderful thing about a big city with lots of back alleys; it's big, and there are back alleys.

She raises her eyebrows enthusiastically. Gael looks unconvinced as he continues to mop the floor.

Gael: Not sure even those are safe anymore looking at those reports Sam got hold of.

Tegan looks deflated. Grace walks through carrying several unused plates

Tegan: Grace! Please tell Gael how you told me to get out more.

Gael looks at Grace a little surprised. Grace looks uncertain of what to say as she puts the plates down.

        Grace: I...guess I did.

Tegan smiles and looks at Gael expectantly.

Grace: But in a not-getting-arrested-for-a-million-years kind of way, you got that part too right?

        Tegan gives her a look.

Tegan: Look I need to get out of here. I mean Gael, our last experiences upstairs weren't too fun I know, but I know I can't stick around down here waiting for something to happen.

Tegan glances at Grace. Grace smiles a little looking glad that Tegan feels this way now. Gael sighs.

        Gael: All right then.

        Tegan smiles widely.

Gael: But not too far, yeah?

Tegan: I promise there will be minimal distance. Grace do you wanna come?

Grace: Oh, thanks, but as much as I enjoy putting my entire future at risk, I said I'd help Aura with Room 4. Plus I just took a dose, so inactivity is kinda looming.

Gael and Tegan both look concerned. Grace smiles.

Grace: Oh please. Go and have your space or whatever. Side effects are not a new thing for me.

        Gael half smiles.

        Gael: Don't work too hard.

Grace: Like I'll actually have a choice when the pills kick in?

Gael and Tegan both smile more fully despite feeling bad for Grace. Grace picks up some bowls and heads in the direction of the dining area. She turns to smile at Gael and Tegan as she goes.

        Grace: Later.

Gael smiles and then looks at Tegan.

Gael: So...I imagine you've heard what Devyn's trying to do.

        Tegan hesitates.

Tegan: Yeah, yeah. And I heard who agrees with him.

She raises her eyebrows. Gael looks guilty, causing Tegan to back down a little.

Tegan: I'm not mad or anything. The interaction thing is Juliet's deal. Or at least it was...I dunno anymore.

Gael looks surprised. Tegan smiles very slightly.

Tegan: You might get your change.

Gael smiles back in the same way.

        Gael: Do you want it?

        Tegan considers this.

Tegan: I'll get back to you on that. Come on.

She indicates the door. Gael half smiles and starts to untie his apron.

        CUT TO:

Juliet is sat next to Sam. Both of them look concerned. Sam looks at her.

Sam: What do you wanna do?

        Juliet exhales and looks down.

        Juliet: I'm not sure.

Sam: What about the others, shouldn't they-

        Juliet turns to him quickly.

Juliet: We don't have anything other than suspicion.

        Sam: Pretty strong suspicion.

Juliet doesn't respond and looks away again. Sam glances at the computer monitor in front of him.

Sam: This Jackie chick mentions "healing" like twenty times. If Westler was talking about it too...then I wouldn't leave it to a coincidence. Enough of those got us all in trouble before now.

        Juliet glances back at him.

Juliet: I can't tell the others. If this gets out...I don't know where it'll end.

Sam: Everybody could be in danger-

Juliet: And if we're not? Anyone could be accused of working with the city council. We've had enough death here without that kind of motive.

        Sam considers this.

Sam: How you gonna make sure there ain't no more Westlers on the inside?

Juliet wipes her hands over her face.

Juliet: I don't know. I mean he had a chip, a record...they're using real criminals. We need to know if Westler told them anything...and what they were promising him to make him tell them.

        There is a pause.

Sam: I can always check him out a little more closely; his file ain't much but...

Juliet's expression has changed; she seems to have thought of something. She looks at Sam.

        Juliet: that.

She gets up. She is about to leave but notices Sam's perplexed expression. She manages a smile.

        Juliet: This won't take long.

Sam nods slowly, still looking confused but perhaps a little reassured by the fact Juliet seems to know what she is doing. He looks back at the monitor, clearly concerned.

        CUT TO:

        INT. HAVEN, ROOM 7

Carla and Devyn are sat side by side on the side of her bed, in mid-conversation.

Carla: They should listen to you. You're the only person who made me feel better about myself for a long time.

        Devyn smiles.

        Devyn: I guess they're scared.

He looks Carla in the eyes.

Devyn: Of the people who aren't like you. The people who'll leave here, and go back to doing whatever the hell it is they did before. And nothing's changed.

Carla looks serious as she considers this. Devyn looks serious also as he stares at the wall.

        Carla: Would you go back?

Devyn looks at her. Carla waits for an answer.

Devyn: If I could become the man I was...the man who didn't care about people's feelings, the effect he had on their lives when he took away the things that were most important to them...if I could become him, again, and forget that I ever started to realise what I was doing...I guess yeah, I would.

        Carla considers this.

        Carla: So would I.

She and Devyn gaze as one another.

        Carla: Because it was easier.

Devyn nods slowly. Carla smiles momentarily.

Carla: But if I hadn't taken a look at my life and stopped...I probably wouldn't be around to wish I hadn't. So...maybe morality has its kicks.

Devyn smiles at her. Carla smiles back, more than she did before. She leans towards Devyn slowly. He leans towards her also. As the pair close their eyes, their lips touch one another's, and they begin to kiss; gently at first, and then more passionately as Devyn moves his hand across Carla's neck. Carla strokes Devyn's thigh and then moves her hand over to his side. Devyn flinches slightly in pain. The two pull away.

        Carla: Oh, God, sorry-

        Devyn: Don't be.

Devyn kisses her once again. Carla is brought back into the moment. After a few seconds the two fall back on to the bed, lost within their embrace.

        CUT TO:

Grace and Aura walk out of Room 4. Aura looks a little disgusted.

Aura: Sometimes I wish we had cameras to see what they do in these rooms to make ?em as nasty as that. And then I think about it...and I'm kinda glad we don't.

Grace smiles, but she looks uncomfortable. Aura notices as they walk down the corridor.

Aura: You should get some sleep.

Grace: I know, I know. Sometimes the nausea goes away though.

Aura: And sometimes it sticks around. You ain't foolin' me.

Grace smiles again. Suddenly a crash is heard from nearby. Grace and Aura turn to see that it has come from Room 3. Grace immediately walks towards the room and listens at the door. There is silence. Aura looks worried.

        Aura: What do you think-

Grace has already opened the door. Grace steps in to see Angela lying on the floor next to her bed. A scarf is tied around her neck. The broken remains of the room's light are scattered next to her, a clear hole in the ceiling from where it snapped off. Grace and Aura both look shocked, Grace immediately running to Angela's side. She begins to turn Angela into the recovery position, tearing off the scarf from her neck.

        Grace: Angela!

        CUT TO:

        INT. ROOM 7

There is a close up of Devyn pulling up Carla's shirt quickly. A shot of Carla quickly unbuckling Devyn's belt.

        CUT TO:

        INT. ROOM 3

Aura watches worriedly as Grace feels for Angela's pulse.

        Aura: Is she-

Grace: She's alive. But she might not be for much longer, go get Juliet!

        Aura hurries away.

        CUT TO:

        INT. ROOM 7

Devyn and Carla fall back on the bed, Devyn on top of her. Their naked chests press together as they grow more and more intimate.

        CUT TO:

        INT. ROOM 3

Grace gives Angela mouth-to-mouth. She tries to resuscitate her once again.

        CUT TO:

        INT. ROOM 7

Carla breathes heavily as she and Devyn begin to make love.

        CUT TO:

        INT. ROOM 3

Grace presses down on Angela's stomach desperately.

        CUT TO:

        INT. ROOM 7

Devyn and Carla both gasp as their union grows more intense.

        CUT TO:

        INT. ROOM 3

Grace breathes heavily also as she looks down at Angela, who is still not responding; she is feeling the effects of what she took more strongly now.

        CUT TO:

        INT. ROOM 7

Devyn and Carla begin to climax.

        CUT TO:

        INT. ROOM 3

Grace gives Angela mouth-to-mouth once more. She lifts her head up.

        Grace: Come on!

        CUT TO:

        INT. ROOM 7

        Carla and Devyn both gasp.

        CUT TO:

        INT. ROOM 3

Grace exhales quickly as she tries still. Angela suddenly gasps, coughing slightly. Grace's eyes widen as she looks down at the woman she has just saved. Angela breathes heavily and looks into Grace's eyes. The two seem to share something in that moment. There is an aerial shot as Aura rushes back in followed by Juliet and Mark.

          CUT TO:

          INT. BEDROOM

Devyn opens his eyes. He is lying in a bed; but not in Carla’s room. He is in an adequately furnished room, sunlight pouring through the thin white curtains. Devyn clutches his head looking groggy, but turns over smiling, expecting to find Molly next to him. However he finds only empty space. Confused, he slips out of the bed.

          CUT TO:

          INT. KITCHEN

Devyn walks through wearing only shorts and an open dressing gown. He looks around, but he appears to be alone. He looks confused and walks up to the jacket he was wearing the night before and reaches into one of the pockets. He looks surprised to find nothing is there. He hesitates and then tries another pocket, and another. His brow narrows as he wonders what has happened. He backs away and rushes back into the bedroom.

          CUT TO:

          INT. BEDROOM

Devyn reaches into the pockets of his jeans but finds nothing. He looks around, now a little worried. A nearby cupboard catches his eye. He almost freezes as he stares at it. He steps towards it cautiously looking anxious and then acts more quickly, swinging the door open. He throws the clothes inside out of the way and feels around the wall for a few moments. A slide opens like a shutter. Devyn places his hand inside the shutter and feels around. His eyes widen. He pulls his hand out. He is holding a note. It says:

          “Thanks for everything,

          Molly xx”

Devyn stares at the note in shock as he looks up. He turns around and surveys the room; how much more had she taken?

          CUT TO:

          INT. KITCHEN

Devyn desperately pulls food out of the cupboards. He lifts another shutter. Nothing.

          CUT TO:

          INT. BEDROOM

Devyn reaches under the bed and pulls out a box. Then another. Papers scatter across the room. Devyn sits back breathing heavily as he contemplates that “everything” might actually be literal. He then gets on his knees and searches through more boxes, more papers and files flying behind him. Devyn looks angry now, as he throws more behind him. He cries out in rage as he slams his fist down on the ground. He then looks up and around. Lying around him is his life in deceit, the things he had kept hidden. But Molly had found them and had dug deeper. The forged signatures and fake cheques are all that remain.

Devyn slowly stands up and looks around, pushing his hand through his hair as he contemplates what he can do next. His gaze rests on something in particular on the floor.

He steps towards a piece of paper and kneels down in front of it, picking it up. It is a Will. It says “Karen Mary Beckens” at the top. Devyn stares at the Will in his hands, his brow narrowing. He looks up and stares into space.

          FADE TO: GREY

          CUT TO:

Juliet walks towards the stairs leading up to the lobby. Grace is stood looking anxious. Juliet smiles at her.

Juliet: She’s ok. Well from what I can tell anyway. She hasn’t said much...

          Grace nods.

Grace: I probably wouldn’t either if my trachea had been crushed.

Grace raises her eyebrows. Juliet smiles slightly. Her eyes tell that she is concerned by what almost happened.

Juliet: You go to so much trouble taking away railings, hooks, anything that people might use for...for that. And they still almost manage to...

          Grace frowns.

Grace: She didn’t. Thank God for badly installed appliances.

Juliet smiles a little. Grace smiles back and is about to walk away. Juliet hesitates.

          Juliet: Angela...

Grace turns to look at her.

Juliet: She asked where you were. I said that I thought you busy but...I guess she wants to say something to you.

          Grace considers this.

Grace: Oh. Uh...isn’t that kinda, getting involved?

Grace waits for an answer. Juliet pauses.

          Juliet: You already are.

Grace hesitates and then nods. She walks, not away, but past Juliet towards the corridor. Juliet watches her go; so many thoughts in mind. She heads towards her office.

          CUT TO:

Tegan and Gael are sat side by side on the roof of a fairly high building. They are both holding a bottle of beer staring at the sunset in the distance. Tegan takes a swig. She narrows her brow a little.

Tegan: This used to make me feel better.

Gael looks at her. He twists his mouth.

          Gael: Not even the beer?

Tegan lifts up her bottle slightly as a weak smile appears on her face.

Tegan: Oh, no it’s good. More than good, even.’s not enough.

          Gael nods slowly.

          Gael: S’pose nothing really is.

          Tegan exhales.

Tegan: Stupid October and lack of warmth.

Gael smiles and takes a drink. Tegan looks at him.

Tegan: Sorry if I’m ruining the moment. I know the point was to relax.

Gael: Nah, the point was to not be inside. And we’ve achieved that so...

Gael lifts his bottle and raises his eyebrows. Tegan smiles and clinks hers against his. Gael smiles back and they both drink. There is a pause.

Tegan: We shouldn’t need depressing situations to come up here.

Gael: But then it would just be another place. And then where would we go?

          Tegan sighs.

Tegan: Well as it happens, all I can remember from this rooftop is all the other times we’ve been sad.

She raises an eyebrow at Gael who shrugs.

          Gael: Really been that many?

Tegan: Uh huh. I can think of at least ten just off the top of my head.

          Gael narrows his brow.

Gael: Maybe we need to find a new place?

Tegan smiles and nods. Gael smiles back. The two of them stare out at the sunset and both take a drink. There is another pause.

          Tegan: Another day.

          Gael: Definitely.

          Tegan: Mm hmm.

          CUT TO:

          INT. HAVEN, ROOM 7

Devyn is lying on Carla’s bed, barefoot, but otherwise dressed. He is lying with one arm behind his head. Carla is lying next to him, her head nuzzled next to his chest. She is wearing her shirt but is lying under the covers.

          Carla: What made you stop?

Devyn glances down at her. She looks up at him.

Carla: I mean you took the job here...this is your life now right? What made you want to change your life?

Devyn stares at the ceiling, thinking.

Devyn: I guess I realised...the effect I had had on so many people’s lives.

          CUT TO:

          INT. BEDROOM

Devyn looks at the Will in his hands in the flashback. Present day Devyn’s voice over continues.

Devyn VO: The pain I had caused...and wouldn’t be able to take away.

          Devyn looks sad.

          CUT TO:

          INT. HAVEN, ROOM 7

Devyn and Carla lie together in the present day. Devyn glances down at Carla again.

          Devyn: How about you babe?

          Carla pauses.

Devyn: I mean if you’ve thought as far ahead as after this.

          Carla exhales.

Carla: I’d like to think I’d begin to do something with my life. You know, when I was little I kinda dreamed about travelling and stuff.

          She smiles as she recollects.

Carla: I always wanted to go to ride an actual camel, and like, watch the sunset from some Greek island, and take pictures of the Sistine Chapel even though you’re not allowed.

Devyn smiles. Carla’s smile fades as she stares at the ceiling.

Carla: But I can still feel so much pulling me back. Even though there actually isn’t anything. It’s stupid.

          There is a pause.

Devyn: So don’t be pulled back. Push yourself to be what you want.

          Carla smiles slightly.

Carla: You make it sound easy.

          Devyn: It isn’t.

Carla glances up at him. The pair make eye contact.

          Devyn: But people manage it.

He smiles at her a little. Carla looks influenced by this as she smiles back and lays her head back down next to Devyn’s chest, rubbing her hand on his stomach.

          Carla: Maybe we both will.

Devyn’s smile fades a little; he knows this is something that might be out of his reach.

          CUT TO:

Devyn walks out of Room 7. In the foreground, Grace is stood next to Room 3. She watches him ascend the stairs to the lobby, wondering what he was doing. Room 3’s door opens. Grace turns to see Angela facing her. She has a red mark where the scarf dug into her skin only an hour or so before. Angela smiles slightly.
          CUT TO:

          INT. ROOM 3

Grace is stood awkwardly in the room. Angela is sat on her bed. She looks at the ground. There are still a few white specks from the broken light.

Angela: I don’t know if “thank you” is really the right thing to say, in a situation like this.

Grace stares at her. Angela finally looks her in the eye. Grace smiles awkwardly.

Grace: I...I did my job. That’s all.

          Angela’s brow narrows.

Angela: You really think that’s “all”?

Grace looks uncomfortable. Angela stands up slowly; a grateful look on her face.

Angela: Well I don’t know if you’re just looking for more gratitude did save me. From myself, as it happens.

Grace looks like she doesn’t know what to say. Angela smiles kindly.

Angela: I don’t like these situations either. You don’t know me, and you probably think I’m unstable because, well, why wouldn’t you after...

She trails off, getting nothing from Grace. Angela exhales.

Angela: I want you to know that I thought this place couldn’t help me. And then you did. I came here with nothing, and...this seemed like...the next step. Now...I don’t know what the next step for me is, but I think it’ll probably be better than what I’d decided. So I hope you feel that you did more...than your job.

Grace considers this as she stares at Angela. She nods and smiles more genuinely. Angela looks pleased that she has got her point across.

          CUT TO:

Juliet walks through the freezer slowly. There are many cabinets that could store dead bodies. She walks over to the main area. There are several body bags. Juliet walks past the nearest and stops next to another. She hesitates. She slowly unzips the bag: Westler’s body is inside. He is still wearing his blood stained clothes. Juliet looks down at him uneasily. She closes her eyes and then opens them again, getting out a syringe.

She lifts up Westler’s arm slowly and pulls the sleeve of his jacket up. She takes the top off the syringe and quickly sticks the needle into his arm. The syringe begins to fill with blood. After a few seconds Juliet pulls the needle out; she has what she needs. Suddenly she freezes. She stares down at Westler’s arm and pulls his sleeve up further still. There is a small tattoo just below his elbow. It is an odd-shaped “A”, drawn as if made from a jewel. The number “25171” is tattooed next to it. Juliet stares down, frowning.

          FADE TO:

Bethany walks in. Tegan and Devyn are sat down in the chairs opposite Juliet’s desk. Grace, Aura, Gael and Mark are stood around. Juliet is sat behind her desk. She smiles as Bethany stands next to the others.

          Juliet: Great.

          Everyone looks expectant.

Juliet: So I know it’s early. But this is important.

The others look curious. Juliet exhales.

Juliet: I wanna tell you all, about an idea. It’s not mine.

She looks at Gael and then Devyn. Devyn cocks his head a little as he considers what Juliet might say next. Juliet glances away and looks at everyone in general.

Juliet: It goes against a lot of what I’ve said before now...but I think it makes sense.

          She hesitates once again.

Juliet: We used to have people coming here who wanted nothing more than to go back out there and kill or steal or whatever. But lately there are more and more people screaming out for someone to talk to them, but we can’t hear them. They have problems that can be solved, if a little more...time is taken to listen. So that’s what I’m asking; for us to listen.

Aura: Some of us been listening for a while already.

Aura raises an eyebrow. Juliet looks at her.

Juliet: I know. And you’ve done some good things, even if I haven’t wanted to admit it.

Juliet sighs and looks around again.

Juliet: A change is gonna come, whether I like it or not. So I’ve decided to like it. Or at least try.

          There is a pause.

Grace: Um, ok, but...none of us have degrees in psychology; how much do you really think we can do?

          Juliet looks at her.

Juliet: I guess being in the right place at the right a good start.

Grace knows what she means and nods slowly. Juliet looks around.

          Juliet: Anyone else?

There is a pause. Juliet nods.

          Juliet: Ok then. That’s it.

Juliet stands. The others look around at one another and begin to leave. Gael looks at Juliet. He smiles supportively.

Gael: I hope this is easier than you think it’s gonna be.

Juliet smiles back and shrugs. Gael walks away with Grace. Grace looks thoughtful as she considers whether even she could help people as she did less than 24 hours ago. Mark and Devyn are left with Juliet.

Mark: Good call, Jules. For what it’s worth.

          Juliet nods.

          Juliet: Wasn’t my call really.

She looks at Devyn. He smiles back kindly.

Mark: Well either way...I thought you should know, Trey left.

Juliet looks over at Mark in surprise.

          Juliet: He did?

Mark: Yeah, about fifteen minutes ago. Said he had better things to do. You know what he’s like.

Juliet doesn’t respond as she stares into space. There is a pause as Mark looks awkward.

Mark: Guess I should sort the room out for whoever, right?

Juliet looks at him and then smiles and nods. Mark smiles back and walks out. Juliet watches him go. Devyn stares at her.

          Devyn: You ok?

          Juliet: Oh, uh, yeah, sure.

Devyn: Thought you said people come and go all the time?

          Juliet: Um...they do. I just...

Juliet considers what she and Trey talked about the day before. Devyn narrows his brow.

Devyn: I’m guessing there are some issues.

          Juliet: Not issues, exactly.

          Devyn nods.

Devyn: He was the guy who was always fighting right?

          Juliet nods.

Juliet: One of them. Though our damage ratio certainly decreases when Trey isn’t around.

          Devyn considers this.

Devyn: Depends what kind of damage you’re talking about.

          Juliet stares at him.

          Juliet: I have a problem.

          Devyn looks a little confused.

          Devyn: You do?

          Juliet nods.

Juliet: I...I have difficulty in believing that you’re nothing but genuine.

          Devyn stares back.

Devyn: Because of what I’ve done.

          Juliet nods.

Juliet: You seem so eager to go out of your way to be this righteous kind of guy...because it’s the right thing to do?

          Devyn pauses.

Devyn: It’s the right thing for us to do. I dunno about you but, I’ve ruined lives. And carried on with my own without looking back.

Juliet looks serious as if she doesn’t want to relate to this, but knows that she can.

Devyn: I guess I epiphany, or something a while back. I’m not a different guy cause of that but, I’d like to think I’m better. I’d like to think some of the people that come through the doors of this place can walk out of them better, too. You’ve told me what this city is like; maybe we can equip people to cope better than we have.

Juliet considers this. ”Come Clean” by Eisley begins to play.

          Juliet: Maybe.

Devyn exhales and smiles a little.

Devyn: I don’t wanna take your place. I hope you know that.

          Juliet smiles a little awkwardly.

Mister, I don't believe in you
Mister, I don't believe in you

          Juliet: I don’t think you’d want to.

Devyn thinks about this for a second.

Just come clean all around me
With your headbleeds and your nosebleeds, too

Devyn: Well I guess I should get on with some work.

Juliet: Yeah me too. I’ll see you later.

          I don't see that there's a truth
In the way you're talking to me

The music grows louder as the chorus begins. Devyn nods and turns. Juliet watches him go as the camera pans towards her slowly.

But let's give it a try
          Let's keep it for truth
Why do you want to fall to pieces?

          CUT TO:

          INT. HAVEN LOBBY

Devyn walks into the lobby. Tegan is just about to begin work. She looks at him. Perhaps for the first time there is no contempt in her eyes. She simply smiles.

          Tegan: Hey.

          Devyn looks pleasantly surprised.

          Devyn: Hey.

          Let's give it a try
          Let's keep it for truth

Tegan sits down to begin her day. Devyn walks towards the dining area.
And come clean all around me
And come clean all around me, oh

          CUT TO:

          INT. HAVEN, ROOM 7

Carla is sat in her room. She has several pills in her hands. She pauses and then swallows them. She lies back on her bed, exhaling in relief. She strokes the side of the bed where Devyn was lying before. She smiles, her eyes revealing her inner sadness,

Mister, I don't believe in you
Mister, I don't believe in you
With the way you're talking to me
          Oh, it's so soothing

          CUT TO:

Mark and Aura are talking to Kelcie. All three are smiling together. Devyn walks in. He looks pleased to see what is happening.

And let's give it a try
          Let's keep it for truth
Why do you want to fall to pieces?

Devyn catches Grace’s eye. She too has been looking at the trio interacting. Grace gives Devyn a quick smile and then goes back to her work.

          Let's give it a try
          Let's keep it for truth
And come clean all around me
And come clean all around me

          CUT TO:

          INT. ?

          The song quickly fades away.

Jackie Stevens is sat at her desk. She is typing on a laptop and is on the phone.

Jackie: I don’t know. We’re working on that, but I have a feeling he’s been compromised, sir. Yes, like the others.

          Jackie exhales looking tired.

Jackie: I know sir. Thank you sir. Well I do accept responsibility.

          Jackie smiles.

Jackie: I appreciate it sir. I have uh, some ideas for more secure operations in the future. Yes, definitely the near future. Well I look forward to it. Thank you sir. Goodbye.

Jackie puts the phone down. Despite the pleasant phone call, she still looks frustrated. She pauses and then dials another number. She waits for a few seconds.

Jackie: It’s Stevens. Mm. Tell me you have something.

Jackie listens. The camera moves towards her fairly quickly as her expression changes, indicating that something has indeed been found.

          Jackie: Go on...

Jackie looks very interested as she continues to listen. The camera moves round to show the website she is looking it. The camera pans closer to the corner of the screen: the same symbol that was tattooed on Westler’s arm is seen.

          THE END
