  • Shadow Stalker - 1.08 - To Have And To Hold

    Series: Shadow Stalker
Episode: 1.08 ? To Have And To Hold
    Writer: Lex
    Editor: Alex Hart
Rating: UK Rating 15 (Scenes of a Sexual Nature)

Shadow Stalker is officially affiliated with Rogue Redemption, an awesome spin-off created by Amber.

I do not claim credit for any of Joss Whedon's creation and the featuring of his characters and episodes in this series is simply for my pleasure and not at all for financial gain as I do all this for free! All characters not affiliated with Jossverse belong to me, as do the plot lines. Season One starts alongside Season 6 of Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Season 3 of Angel and is in association with Rogue Redemption, (Amber); Chosen, (Heather); BtVS Seasons 8 + 9 and AtS Season 6, (Alex Hart); Raven (Alexander Brown); Sorceress Of Crimson Falls (Travis); and Wishful Thinking (Ben).

RACK (V/O): Previously on Shadow Stalker

Various images of CATE murdering The Clique blast on to screen. The knife, BREE'S neck breaking, SKYE impaled, her foot twitching, MELODY being stabbed?

MELODY (V/O): Now you know, what are you going to do?

    ALLEY ? EXT.BRONZE ? NIGHT

CHARLIE: (shouting) ?You're a killer?you killed your friends!!

CATE: Charlie, it was a long time ago! I did it all so I could try and get closer to you? I don't know what it is, it keeps making me do things! Charlie?I'm so sorry?

She collapses to the floor and cries, her tears barely recognisable in the rain that beats down around her and the others. CHARLIE walks slightly towards her.

CHARLIE: I made a mistake letting you back in Cate?Don't ever come near me?ever?

She walks away. CATE lifts her head slightly and watches her go, she turns to look at XAK who looks at her for a moment, then follows CHARLIE down the alleyway.

CATE: (crying and pleading) No?I'm sorry, im so sorry. Please come back!

She turns to TOOLE who is looking down at the floor and not at CATE.

    CATE: Toole, please?

He puts a hand up to silence her.

TOOLE: (firmly) You lied to me. I trusted you. I told you my darkest secret?and you repay me like this?

He doesn't look at her, he merely walks away through the rain. The camera closes in on CATE whose crying uncontrollably on the floor of the alley. The camera then pulls away and shows CHARLIE in the distance walking away, followed by XAK and then TOOLE.

CHARLIE: I've known him just over a week.

CATE: Some people you know your whole life, you don't click. Others, you just have a connection with?

She is smiling and looking at them. She's an attractive woman and wearing a suit.

YOUNG WOMAN: Well, it seems thing's went according to procedure?

One of the figures nods at her, slowly.

YOUNG WOMAN: Excellent, well we're very pleased.

The two figures look at one another. The YOUNG WOMAN closes the files.

YOUNG WOMAN: I'm afraid however, before we can send you back, there is more to be done.

The YOUNG WOMAN beckons them closer to her desk, and the two figures move towards her desk and into the light. It's MELODY and LANCE. They look worried.

    ACT ONE

    SUNNYDALE
    BAR AREA ? INT.BRONZE - AFTERNOON

The camera passes around the empty club. TOOLE is signing a form with a man at the door, and XAK is cleaning the counter surface. TOOLE notices once again XAK'S half hearted approach to bar work. He sighs, and hands the form to the man, who then leaves. He walks over to XAK.

TOOLE: You know. If I didn't feel as crap as I do, I'd be telling you to do some work about now.

XAK: Is that a subtle hint?

    TOOLE: I don't do subtle.

XAK jumps up and sits on the counter. They're silent for a while.

XAK: Do you do simple living? You know the mundane lives where people just do normal things.

    TOOLE looks at him.

TOOLE: I've heard of those. Not as exciting as bar work though.

He holds up the forms mocking being excited.

TOOLE: (sarcastically) I get to sign forms!

XAK smiles looks at him now too.

XAK: You don't have to do this you know.

    TOOLE: Sign forms?

    XAK: No, pretend everything's fine.

TOOLE: I'm not pretending everything's fine, because that would imply things aren't fine, which they are.

XAK looks at him while he reads through the forms.

XAK: Then why are you feeling crappy?

    TOOLE: It's a metaphor for?signing forms.

XAK just accepts this, TOOLE'S defensive behaviour is hard to penetrate.

XAK: Have you spoken to her?

TOOLE moves away from the counter. He frowns.

TOOLE: We're not having this conversation.

    XAK: We should.

TOOLE starts to go through some paperwork.

TOOLE: (changing the subject) Soul Vector will be here at nine by the way.

XAK: Toole you can talk about?

    TOOLE looks at him sharply.

TOOLE: Have you spoken to Charlie?

    XAK looks down, beat.

XAK: A bit, she's been a bit quiet since?everything. Kinda reclusive.

TOOLE: Well it's the way some deal with things. They like to keep themselves to themselves.

    XAK looks up at TOOLE.

TOOLE: Listen; take the night off, I got enough staff for tonight.

    He sighs.

    TOOLE: Take Charlie somewhere nice?

    XAK: You sure?

TOOLE: No reason why all of us should be depressed.

He looks at XAK as if to say, "hey, I'm not being defensive!" XAK acknowledges this. TOOLE walks away to the other side of the bar. The camera focuses in on XAK who's thinking.

    CUT TO ? SUNNYDALE
    INNER SANCTUM ? INT.RACK'S PLACE - AFTERNOON

CHARLIE is lying on one of the sofas staring at the ceiling, while RACK is seeing a young female junkie out. She stumbles out the door and RACK closes it. CHARLIE scoffs. RACK turns round, misinterpreting the scoff from his daughter.

RACK: Some girls just can't handle the juice?

CHARLIE: Do you have to do that while I'm here?

RACK: Do you have to be here while I do that?

CHARLIE: You shouldn't answer a question with a question?

He sighs and moves towards CHARLIE.

    RACK: What's up babe?

    CHARLIE: Nothin'

RACK: You still upset over Cate.

    She doesn't reply.

RACK: Look I hate to say this to you but?

    CHARLIE looks at him, sharply.

CHARLIE: What? That you told me so, and that you knew this would happen all along and that once again Cate's hurt me?

RACK: Well, yeah, that sums it up?

She gets off the sofa hurriedly and stands. She walks towards the door.

CHARLIE: I do not need this right now. Least of all from you.

RACK puts a hand out and stops her.

    RACK: From me?

    She looks at him annoyed.

CHARLIE: Yes! From you! You knew all this time what she was like, what she'd done?

    She shakes her head, incredulous.

CHARLIE: ?And you didn't tell me.

    He looks at her seriously.

RACK: You knew how much I despised that girl, she's unstable. I was never subtle in admitting that.

CHARLIE: So you love protecting me, but it's fine to let me hang with a murderer?

    RACK: I?

    CHARLIE: Thought so.

She removes herself from his grip and leaves the room.

    CUT TO ? SUNNYDALE
    ALLEY ? EXT.SUNNYDALE STREETS - AFTERNOON

CHARLIE appears out of the gateway to her father's place. She gasps as something is walking in front of her. It's CATE.

CATE: Jeez, Charlie. Didn't see you there.

CHARLIE: (sarcastically) Sorry, did I scare you?

CATE: (not noticing the sarcasm) No it's totally cool.

    CHARLIE shakes her head, incredulous.

    CHARLIE: You're unbelievable?

CATE doesn't say anything, she looks upset.

CATE: Charlie, please, just listen to what I have to say?

CHARLIE: You know what. I would rather spend some time with my drug-pushing dad right now than be seen in the same proximity as you.

She looks CATE up and down, disgusted, and turns to leave, she disappears through the gateway once again. CATE looks at the blank alleyway before her, she looks down, and sighs slightly. She turns to go back the other way, but stops. MELODY appears in front of her.

    CATE: Jeez, you shocked me.

    MELODY looks at her, incredulous.

MELODY: (sarcastically) Yeah, it sucks to be you.

CATE looks down. MELODY takes a less bitchy tone with her now, she sounds genuinely concerned.

    MELODY: How you holding up?

CATE: What do you care? You brought this on me?

MELODY: Oh, I stabbed myself? Anyway, murder aside?we used to be good friends, and from what I can see, I'm the closest thing you've got to one at the moment.

CATE: How the hell do you figure that?

MELODY: ?Cause I'm the only one still sticking around.

CATE can't deny that she's right.

MELODY: I know you're hurting, I know this pain is too much to bear. Letting her down?

CATE looks down, MELODY'S eyes widen.

    MELODY: ?Letting him down.

CATE looks up at these words. Tears in her eyes.

MELODY: Come with me, I can't stay much longer, I have to leave tonight.

    CATE: Where?

MELODY: Heaven, you'll be at peace?

CATE: As if I can get into heaven. Don't they like ID you or something?

MELODY: Well something like that, but if you repent, and suffer for your sins, which you have done?you're place is as good as guaranteed.

    CATE: But I'd have to?

    MELODY nods, CATE looks around.

CATE: Why would I even want to? I'm fine here?

MELODY: No you're not, you don't belong here. You belong with The Clique.

CATE looks around at her quickly.

    CATE: They're there?

    MELODY nods.

MELODY: They miss you. They forgive you?isn't it time you came home?

The camera closes in on CATE'S face, a mixture of horror, happiness and wonder fill her expression

    CUT TO ? SUNNYDALE
    TOOLE'S OFFICE ? INT.BRONZE - AFTERNOON

TOOLE enters with bags full of loose change. He goes to his desk, and bends down to open a safe underneath it. He puts the bags in the safe and locks it. Hearing the click he stands. He jumps back slightly seeing LANCE lying casually on the sofa at the other end of the office.

LANCE: You know, I can't say I ain't jealous. Bro got all the threads and I got spun some crappy yarn from some retarded sheep somewhere....

    TOOLE looks at him seriously.

TOOLE: What are you doing here?

LANCE: Well that ain't neighbourly, least of all to your brother.

    He smiles and sits up.

    TOOLE: Just leave.

LANCE: Can't. Or more exactly, won't. We were getting somewhere in hospital before you spilled to Little Miss Thick.

    TOOLE doesn't say anything.

LANCE: It kills don't it? Living in this world. No family, one girl you trusted stabs you in your back. Heck even your workers are copping off with junkies. Why are you even here?

    TOOLE: I?

LANCE narrows his eyes, looking at his brother seriously.

LANCE: You don't belong here Toole. You belong with your family. With Mom and Dad.

    TOOLE: You've seen them?

    LANCE: They sent me?

    TOOLE'S eyes widen.

LANCE: They want you home, what dya say?

The camera hones in on TOOLE'S face as he tries to work out whether or not to accept what his brother is saying.

      SUNNYDALE
      LOBBY ? INT.RACK'S PLACE - EVENING

There are a few junkie's sitting around in the lobby, shuffling nervously waiting to be seen by RACK. XAK enters from the mystical front door. He looks around as RACK opens the door to his lair.

      RACK: Ok who's next?

He looks around and spots XAK who has started walking towards him. He notices XAK is smartly dressed in a shirt and a pair of new jeans.

RACK: Well look at you glad rags. How can I help?

XAK nods to the door, RACK stands aside to let him enter. XAK walks through into the inner sanctum, causing various other junkies to protest at the queue. RACK follows XAK into the inner sanctum and closes the door, ignoring the pleas for help.

      CUT TO ? SUNNYDALE
      INNER SANCTUM ? INT.RACK'S PLACE ? NIGHT

RACK walks in and slowly turns to face XAK who has closed the door behind him.

RACK: (smirking) Well my good man, what can I do ya for?

      XAK looks nervous.

XAK: I wanna take Charlie out. These past months have been?well crazed. I think we both could use something normal.

RACK moves closer to XAK, inspecting him.

RACK: (seriously) You wanna take my girl on a date?

      XAK looks intimidated.

XAK: I just think?I feel that?

      RACK laughs.

RACK: Relax man. I'm only kidding. Get her out of here, she's becoming a bore.

He smiles, XAK replies weakly. XAK looks at him, then moves to the far end of the room and goes through to see CHARLIE. RACK turns and glares at the door where XAK left.

      CUT TO ? SUNNYDALE
      CHARLIE'S ROOM ? INT.RACK'S PLACE - EVENING

CHARLIE'S lying on the bed, soft music playing in the background. She looks depressed and to be day dreaming. There is a knock at the door, she doesn't look at it.

      CHARLIE: Go away dad?

The door opens, XAK enters smiling.

      XAK: Sorry to disappoint.

      CHARLIE sits up, almost embarrassed.

CHARLIE: Xak, what are you doing here?

XAK: Crazy as it sounds, I'm here to take you out?.

CHARLIE looks at him curiously, but her expression eventually turns into a smile.

      CHARLIE: You are? Why?

XAK: I just feel like we both deserve something a bit?something normal?

CHARLIE lets out a small laugh.

CHARLIE: Normal sounds good. Where did you have in mind?

XAK: Well I've heard rumours in The Bronze of men taking women to dinner; I know it sounds like a crazy concept?

      She smiles more now.

CHARLIE: Well we're constantly fighting danger, I say we go for it.

      They smile at one another.

      CUT TO ? SUNNYDALE
      ALLEY ? INT.RESTAURANT - EVENING

The camera passes around a small restaurant. The light is natural, the light from the moon washes the guests through the window and the candles on the table warm them. The camera lands on XAK and CHARLIE sitting at a small table towards the back of the restaurant. CHARLIE looks stunning. Her hair is up for a change and she's wearing the same red dress from the night XAK started working in The Bronze. They are both sipping glasses of red wine and they have empty plates in front of them.

XAK: ?I barely recognised that thing.

CHARLIE: Well in your defence you were being flayed so I'll let the ignorance of what I was wearing go.

She smiles and sips on the glass of red wine in front of her.

XAK: Where did you get it?

      CHARLIE'S face drops slightly.

CHARLIE: Cate, bought it for me.

XAK: (beat) I'm sorry, the one thing I was trying to avoid tonight and I bought it up.

CHARLIE shakes her head and puts her hand on XAK'S

CHARLIE: Look it's fine; I don't expect you to walk on eggshells.

      XAK smiles at her.

XAK: You never told me how you two actually met.

      CHARLIE: How I met Cate?

      She thinks.

CHARLIE: I moved to Sunnydale when I was about five or six years old. My dad and I moved into a small apartment to begin with. His business wasn't up and running then. About five minutes after we moved in, there was a knock at the door. It was Cate. She was the same age as me. We just clicked and it helped you know? Having someone like her nearby?

      She looks down.

      CHARLIE: (quietly) ?A friend.

XAK: You don't think of her like that anymore?

CHARLIE: How can I? She murdered people.

CHARLIE looks around the restaurant uncomfortable, scared of being heard.

XAK: She murdered people yes, but so have I?thousands more than Cate.

CHARLIE: That's different, you weren't you, you were a demon.

XAK: And who's to say she's not?

CHARLIE doesn't say anything. She searches for words.

CHARLIE: You think she's a demon?

XAK: All I'm saying is, we don't know why she did what she did, and from what I saw, I don't think she knew either. She hurt us, lied to us, but I think it was to protect us.

      CHARLIE: Maybe.

She looks down. XAK squeezes her hand, forcing her to look up.

XAK: But, whatever is up with her, tonight Charlie, is our night.

      She smiles softly.

CHARLIE: You're right. So tell me something about yourself.

      XAK: Like what?

CHARLIE: Boring stuff we never mentioned, I mean how old are you?

XAK: (laughing) Age? I'm not even sure myself. I've been around pretty much ever since Glory began stomping her feet for attention.

CHARLIE: Wow, Glorificus? An age and a half then?

      XAK: (worried) That a problem?

CHARLIE: (smiling) Nope, I always had a thing for older guys.

She smiles and drinks her wine. He smirks.

XAK: I think in this town, everyone's older than they look.

CHARLIE: ?Cept lil old me, only 21 years old.

XAK: (holding up his glass) To youth.

She clinks her glass with his.

CHARLIE: So, what about your family?

XAK: I'm not sure I have any.

CHARLIE: Everyone has family, at some point in life they do anyway.

XAK: Maybe I'm yet to experience the word.

He looks out of the window, thinking.

      XAK: I don't know how I came into being, I just?was.

      CHARLIE: Wow, weird.

XAK: Me all over. How about you anyway, just your dad?

CHARLIE: I don't remember my mother, she died when I was young. I think that's why we moved to Sunnydale, too many painful memories from where we used to live. I think anyway?

XAK: Where did you used to live?

CHARLIE: I?don't remember. I remember it being just gorgeous though, my memories vague at the best of times of my childhood.

XAK: Well maybe we'll find it one day, and go back there.

      CHARLIE: I'd like that.

She smiles at him, and blushes slightly.

      CUT TO ? SUNNYDALE
      BAR AREA ? INT.BRONZE ? EVENING

The club is fairly busy. The band Soul Vector are playing on the stage and lots of people are dancing. The camera passes around the room to see CATE enter. She looks unsure and slightly nervous. She moves towards the bar area, she looks up and down the bar, searching. She's unlucky. She moves across the room to Toole's Office. She knocks.

      CATE: Toole?

She knocks again and listens. There is no sound from within. She finds the door handle and opens the door. The camera just shows CATE going into the office and as the door shuts behind it, we see a MIDDLE AGED WOMAN standing behind the door. She's also attractive like the YOUNG WOMAN, almost identical, but older. She's also wearing a similar suit to the YOUNG WOMAN. She puts her finger to her ear.

MIDDLE AGED WOMAN: Contact made. Initiate protocol.

She smirks, as she hears a female voice speaking in her ear faintly.

        SUNNYDALE
        ENTRANCE ? INT.BRONZE ? EVENING

The camera shows XAK and CHARLIE walking into the club. They're smiling.

XAK: (shouting to be heard over the music) Toole said it would be busy.

        They move to the bar.

CHARLIE: (reciprocating his volume) How is he?

XAK: About as good as you.

CHARLIE: Then he must be perfect.

XAK notices the sincerity behind her voice and he smiles. He turns to the barman.

        XAK: Hey, ya seen Toole?

BARMAN: No man, he was he a moment ago.

        XAK: Oh ok.

He looks at CHARLIE, who's looking around.

CHARLIE: You gonna buy me a drink then?

He laughs. She looks at him and smiles.

XAK: Right, rule number one?Don't I get anything?

CHARLIE: You get my company for the evening! Can't ask much more than that can ya.

        XAK: No, I couldn't.

He looks at her, she blushes again. CHARLIE admires the band for a second.

CHARLIE: This band is really good.

XAK: Toole booked them a few months back, he was really excited, but then again he got excited at the green coaster order yesterday.

        He looks around.

CHARLIE: So why's he missing them?

        XAK: The coasters?

        CHARLIE: No, the band.

        XAK: I have no idea?

        He looks slightly concerned.

        TOOLE'S OFFICE ? INT.BRONZE ? EVENING

CATE walks in, continued from earlier. She looks around.

        CATE: Toole?

She sees him sitting on the sofa, staring into space.

TOOLE: (not looking up) What do you want?

She notes his harsh tone and looks down slightly.

CATE: I just?I wanted to talk to you.

He doesn't say anything. She slowly moves closer and sits next to him on the sofa.

CATE: I want you to understand.

        TOOLE: Understand what?

CATE: About what I did. I thought you'd understand more than anyone.

        TOOLE: How could I?

CATE: You know what it's like to have a secret, to feel responsible for the loss of three people's lives?

TOOLE: I think the situation is slightly different.

CATE: But you still feel responsible, you feel like you sent Lance to that basement and you let those vampires kill your parents.

        TOOLE: (shouting) I know Cate!

He looks at her. She's embarrassed and looks away. He sighs.

TOOLE: But it doesn't make accepting what you did any easier.

She looks back at him, almost pleading with her eyes.

        CATE: Why?

TOOLE: When I told you about Lance, I thought I'd finally found someone who understands, who trusts me, who I can trust.

        CATE: You do have that.

TOOLE: I thought for once, I actually liked someone genuine.

CATE: I am genuine?I'm not like a knock off kinda?

She realises something, she looks at him.

        CATE: ?Wait? You like me?

They look at one another, but don't say anything.

        CUT TO ? SUNNYDALE
        DANCE FLOOR ? INT.BRONZE - EVENING

The camera opens on the band Soul Vector on stage. They begin to play a song.

SONG: SOUL VECTOR ? PERFECT HIGH

The intro starts and couples move towards the dance floor. They begin to dance slowly, the women rest their heads on the men's shoulders, the men hold them close.

        CUT TO ? SUNNYDALE
        BAR AREA ? INT.BRONZE - EVENING

CHARLIE and XAK are sitting at the bar. She looks at them, enviously. XAK looks at CHARLIE, and notices this. He looks nervous.

        XAK: Wanna dance?

She looks at him, and nods slowly, smiling. He holds out a hand, which she takes and they walk to the dancefloor.

        CUT TO ? SUNNYDALE
        DANCE FLOOR ? INT.BRONZE - EVENING

Arriving there, CHARLIE puts her hands around his neck and he puts his arms around her. They begin to move to the music. (The music below plays throughout)

"There's no reason to stay mending moments of change
While I lie consumed in memory
        "

CHARLIE: I can't thank you enough for the past six months Xak.

        XAK: Me either.

She looks into his eyes, touched.

        CHARLIE: (seriously) You've changed me.

        He smiles.

        XAK: I noticed.

She smiles back and rests her head on his shoulder. (The music below plays throughout)

"There's no point in return to this emotion and blame
I've felt time and time again
        "

        CUT TO ? SUNNYDALE
        TOOLE'S OFFICE ? INT.BRONZE - EVENING

CATE and TOOLE are sitting nervously on the sofa. They keep looking away and looking back at one another occasionally. They eventually meet one another's gaze and fix eye contact. (The music below plays throughout)

"Just a little more of this confusion I need
Just a little more pain so I can feel alive again
        "

        CUT TO ? SUNNYDALE
        DANCE FLOOR ? INT.BRONZE - EVENING

XAK and CHARLIE are still dancing. She takes her head of his shoulder to look at him. He looks back. Slowly they lean in to kiss one another. Their lips meet. (The music below plays throughout)

"It's the perfect high for the perfect time
        You're perfect so perfectly fine
        "

        CUT TO ? SUNNYDALE
        TOOLE'S OFFICE ? INT.BRONZE ? EVENING

TOOLE looks at her. He liked her, he had done for a while and despite everything, despite their secrets?nothing had changed. He leans in and kisses her. She is taken aback by the act but goes with it, she puts her arms around his neck. (The music below plays throughout)

"It's the perfect high for the perfect time
        You're perfect so perfectly fine
        "

        CUT TO ? SUNNYDALE
        BAR AREA ? INT.BRONZE - EVENING

The camera moves away from XAK and CHARLIE kissing and moving to the music to the bar. An OLD WOMAN who despite her age is attractive is sitting at the bar. She also bears a remarkable resemblance to the YOUNG WOMAN and the MIDDLE AGED WOMAN. Like them, she's wearing a similar suit. She puts a finger to her ear, glaring at XAK and CHARLIE.

OLD WOMAN: Step up the plans. Send them in now. It's going to be too late.

She glares at XAK and CHARLIE viciously and then walks away from the bar and leaves the club.

        CUT TO ? SUNNYDALE
        TOOLE'S OFFICE ? INT.BRONZE ? EVENING

TOOLE and CATE are still engaged in kissing. She breaks away gently.

CATE: (breathless) Wow?I guess this means?

WOMAN (O/S): Urgh, get a room.

They both look sharply to the door, and see a repulsed MELODY standing there.

MELODY: Or you know, one that isn't this one.

MAN (O/S): Yeah, it's kinda rude.

They look to the desk and LANCE is sitting there with his feet on the table. He removes his feet from the table and moves over to MELODY. They smile at one another. CATE and TOOLE both look completely shocked.

        CATE: (to LANCE) You?

        TOOLE: (to MELODY) ?And you.

        MELODY looks at LANCE.

        MELODY: Yeah us.

CATE: What are you doing here?

LANCE looks at MELODY, their happiness fades away. They can't do it?

        LANCE: We're here?

MELODY and LANCE look at one another. MELODY goes to say something, but LANCE stops her. She looks upset, so does he.

        LANCE: ?To warn you.

        TOOLE: Warn us?

MELODY: (desperately) We can't tell you much, we've already crossed them by telling you this much.

LANCE: But we can't make you kill yourselves.

CATE looks at TOOLE shocked, then back to the others.

CATE: You were trying to get us to kill ourselves? Why?

        MELODY moves towards her.

MELODY: (pleading) You have to listen, they know what we're saying, and they're coming. We'll suffer for this?

She indicates LANCE who is looking incredibly sad and serious. TOOLE notices this.

MELODY: ?Something bad is coming Cate, it's already here. Everything that's happened over the past few months has all been orchestrated by a higher force.

CATE: Did you just use a four syllable word?

LANCE: (hurriedly) Our deaths were all part of a higher purpose that you're involved in. You need to know we don't hold any bad feelings towards you two. We accept what's happened to us. Jeez, we'll suffer for telling you this, and you should know, the danger is?

They disappear. Instantly gone. CATE looks at the empty space before her. TOOLE looks also. They look at one another, upset.

"Nine . . . run your fingers through my hair"

CHARLIE tugs at his shirt, which she unbuttons and pulls off his body. She runs her hands over his abs. (The music below plays throughout)

          "Eight . . . touch me . . . slowly"

He picks her up, still kissing her. Her legs wrapped around his waist and walks to the bedroom.

          CUT TO ? SUNNYDALE
          XAK'S BEDROOM ? INT.XAK'S APARTMENT - NIGHT

They collapse on the bed together, he lies on top of her. They break their kiss, he looks into her eyes. (The music below plays throughout)

"Hold it! Let's go straight . . . to number one?"

          CUT TO ? UNKNOWN
          OFFICE ? INT.UNKNOWN ? NIGHT

The music stops abruptly and the camera pans around and shows many office workers working and typing away at computers. Even though it is night, people are still working. As the doors to their office swing open suddenly, they look up. Fear encases their expression as they look in pure horror at the people walking in. It is the YOUNG WOMAN, the MIDDLE AGED WOMAN, and the OLD WOMAN. They are dressed in the same style suit, and standing next to one another. Together, they look almost identical, just different ages. They are walking with immense confidence through the room, weaving amongst the desks to a door at the far end. The door has a name engraved on it saying, "DANTE TURNPIKE" they don't knock, the door opens of its own accord.

          CUT TO ? UNKNOWN
          DANTE'S OFFICE ? INT.UNKNOWN - NIGHT

DANTE is sitting at a desk, (he is played by Chris Evans). He looks at them as they enter. They stand opposite his desk, he smiles.

          DANTE: Ladies, what an honour.

YOUNG WOMAN: This is not a social call Mr Turnpike.

DANTE: Nah, I imagined it wouldn't be with all three of you being here and all?

MIDDLE AGED WOMAN: I gather you know why we are here?

DANTE sighs and leans back in his chair.

DANTE: Yes, I have been informed by the "people up stairs".

OLD WOMAN: You act so casual around us, why?

DANTE: ?Cause you're our client, you wouldn't come to us if you didn't need something, so I feel like I got a bit more power at the moment. Gives me a buzz.

He smirks at them, and the women look at one another.

YOUNG WOMAN: Exile your taunts Mr Turnpike; there are plenty of agencies that would be honoured to handle our problem.

They turn and go to leave, DANTE stands.

          DANTE: Wait!

          They turn.

DANTE: Ok ok! Look I'm sorry, please stay.

They look at one another again and they turn back to him. He sits back down and pulls open a file that simply has a triangle on it with a symbol of a bird in the middle. No name. He begins reading.

          DANTE: Interesting?

MIDDLE AGED WOMAN: So you see the problems that have arose the past months.

          DANTE: Yes, I certainly do.

OLD WOMAN: We are at war with The First Evil, it must not know we are taking action against it.

DANTE: War with The First? Ambitious?

          He looks at them.

DANTE: ?But not for you ladies of course.

YOUNG WOMAN: You understand that what it is intending to do must not happen?

MIDDLE AGED WOMAN: We have worked too hard and too long to let this plan go to waste.

OLD WOMAN: Not to mention exploited lives, which had some promise. The Slayer's for example.

YOUNG WOMAN: We have the backing of many, but as you know, some closer affiliations have been treacherous.

DANTE looks through the file; a picture of the SUITED MAN which RACK met in the desert is shown on one page with a cross through his picture.

MIDDLE AGED WOMAN: There are many more?

          DANTE: People?

OLD WOMAN: Yes. Families interwoven with hubris, casting spells and stopping what should have been finished years ago.

DANTE turns the page, and on this next page there is a picture of MELODY and LANCE with a cross through their pictures.

YOUNG WOMAN: Not to mention valuable assets that let their personal feelings for the subjects and their affiliates interfere with protocol.

DANTE: I understand, completely. But what do you want us to do about it?

MIDDLE AGED WOMAN: We need your help devising a new strategy.

DANTE: That shouldn't be a problem, and I wouldn't worry, I have a solution that could kill two birds with one stone.

OLD WOMAN: I hope so Mr Turnpike?

OLD WOMAN (V/O): Because thing's have just gotten extremely complicated?
