ACT I

INT. ? FAITH AND ROBIN'S APARTMENT-LIVING ROOM- AFTERNOON

ROBIN looks at FAITH.

ROBIN: Well...it's...

He sighs.

ROBIN: I can't lie. It's radioactive.

FAITH lets out a frustrated sigh.

FAITH: Great. Now I look like a walking nuclear bomb.

SAM: Actually, the radioactive part of a nuclear bomb is in-

FAITH looks at her.

FAITH: Did I ask?

SAM looks down.

SAM: No.

ALAN: Well, it's true.

FAITH: (loudly) Fine! (quieter) I'm going to head off now.

MARIE gets up from her chair and walks over to FAITH.

MARIE: Bye...

FAITH: Bye.

FAITH starts to walk out the door. MARIE grins.

MARIE: (loudly) Have fun at wooork...

FAITH looks back to MARIE and rolls her eyes before turning around and heading downstairs and out of the building. MARIE turns back around.

SAM: You are truly evil.

MARIE grins again.

MARIE: No comment.

She heads back to her room. ALAN watches her leave.

ALAN: Well, isn't she just chipper today?

SAM: Yeah...and not stuttering. That's unusual.

BRIAN: I would've thought that she would be double her usual self after what happened with Melody.

SAM and ALAN nod in agreement.

CUT TO-INT. ? FAITH AND ROBIN'S APARTMENT- MARIE'S ROOM- AFTERNOON

MARIE walks into her room and goes over to get her bag. She picks it up by the handle and then turns around. She gasps.

MELODY: What? You're so surprised to see me?

MARIE: You're dead.

MELODY: You still haven't gotten that through your thick skull? C'mon, Mar, it's not that hard. I'm dead. Gone. Not breathing. Asta la vis-

MARIE: Go away.

MELODY smirks, and leans her head to the side.

MELODY: Sorry, chickie...can't. I've got to make sure I relay my-

She pauses.

MELODY: (cont'd) You know what? Never mind. You don't need to know.

MARIE glares at her, and steps toward her.

MARIE: Yeah, but you see, the thing is? I want to know. And you're going to tell me.

MELODY: Oh yeah? And why's that?

MARIE: Because if you don't, I'll bring you back to life-

MELODY: That doesn't sound too bad.

MARIE gets up in MELODY'S face.

MARIE: I'm not finished. I'll bring you back to life and then...make you feel the pain of 1000 deaths.

Her face is blank, with no emotion. MELODY stares back at her, and then bursts out laughing.

MELODY: You wouldn't be able to. And you won't need to.

She looks at her watch.

MELODY: (cont'd) I've got somewhere to be. Toodles!

She waves and then disappears.

CUT TO-INT. ? CAMPUS- AFTERNOON

SAM and ALAN walk down the hallway together.

SAM: So they were talking about what exactly in that room?

ALAN raises an eyebrow.

ALAN: It was a classroom. They were talking about...class stuff?

SAM laughs.

SAM: You raise your eyebrow and yet you don't even know...tsk.

ALAN: What can I say...

SAM: I don't know, but apparently you can't hear.

She smiles.

ALAN: Hey, you're the one that wanted to know what they were talking about. I didn't care.

SAM: How very studious of you.

ALAN: Who said I was studious?

This time, both of them smile.

CUT TO-INT. ? FAITH AND ROBIN'S APARTMENT- AFTERNOON

BRIAN walks through the door, book in hand. The book is open, and flipped to page 7.

BRIAN: (V/O) Even a small amount of the power of empathy can continue to manifest, getting stronger and stronger until the host can no longer bear it.

He pauses.

BRIAN: Huh...seems like I'm screwed...unless...

He flips through the book.

BRIAN: (cont'd) Aha!

He sets the book down and heads out the door. The camera follows him, and then pans down to the book page that he left open. The title reads ?To Rid of Empathy'.

CUT TO-EXT. ? PORKY'S (A BAR) ? AFTERNOON

FAITH gets out of her car and stares at the big sign that says "Porky's" and has a big pig painted on the wall beside it. FAITH sighs.

FAITH: No wonder it's pink.

She looks down at her uniform.

FAITH: (cont'd) Oh well.

And with that, she walks into the entrance. When she gets in there, the entire room was filled with smoke. She waves a hand in front of her face.

FAITH: Damn, forgot what that smelled like.

She walks over to the cashier part of the bar, and leans over the counter, to speak with the person currently there. The cashier standing there looks up.

CASHIER: Ah. You must be Faith.

FAITH: That would be me.

CASHIER: Great, ?cause my shift is over.

With that, she walks off.

FAITH: Oookay...

FAITH walks around the counter and in front of the cash register.

FAITH: (cont'd) Well, this can't be too hard.

CUT TO-INT. ? PORKY'S- ONE HOUR LATER

We see FAITH yelling over everyone in front of the bar.

FAITH: So you said you wanted a-

CUSTOMER 1: C'mon, lady! I haven't got all day.

CUSTOMER 2: Really, how hard is it to press buttons on that stupid machine?

FAITH glares at them. Suddenly, the cashier from earlier taps her on the shoulder.

CASHIER: Doesn't look like you're doing so well.

FAITH: You know what? I'm taking a break.

She walks away from the cashier angrily.

CUT TO-EXT. ?PORKY'S ? AFTERNOON

FAITH: What kind of name is Porky's anyway?

She walks around the building and into an alleyway. There is another tap on her shoulder.

FAITH: (cont'd) Look, I told you, I'm taking a-

She swivels around, and we see that the person that tapped her on the shoulder isn't the cashier. It's ALLAN- The deputy mayor that she killed in "Bad Girls" of Buffy the Vampire Slayer

FAITH: (very quietly) Break...how...

ALLAN: Hello, killer.

FADE TO BLACK

ACT II

INT.- FAITH AND ROBIN'S APARTMENT-BRIAN'S ROOM- AFTERNOON

BRIAN sits on the floor with his legs crossed. A candle is lit, and he's looking down at the book from earlier.

BRIAN: God, I hope this works.

He takes a breath, and begins the spell.

BRIAN: Capio susicivus sensus de me...

A wind in the room begins to pick up, almost blowing the candle out, but not quite.

BRIAN: (cont'd) Ego peto tu...capio rursus quidnam per antea affero.

With the last word, just when the spell was about to complete, the candle blew out. BRIAN let out a huge sigh of aggravation.

BRIAN: Damn Latin...

CUT TO-INT. ?FAITH AND ROBIN'S APARTMENT- LIVING ROOM- AFTERNOON

ROBIN walks through the door as BRIAN comes storming into the living room.

BRIAN: Dammit!

ROBIN: I'm guessing something not so good happened.

BRIAN: (sarcastic) No, you think?

ROBIN: I was just stating-

BRIAN: Well don't.

BRIAN walks over to the couch and sits down.

BRIAN: (cont'd) I should have known that spell wouldn't work.

ROBIN: Spell?

BRIAN sighs.

BRIAN: Now I guess I have to tell you.

CUT TO-INT. ? MALL- AFTERNOON

MARIE is seen walking down the hallway within a crowd of people. Someone with red hair is following her. MARIE turns a corner, where almost no people are, and swivels around the see MELODY.

MARIE: What, exactly, do you think you're doing?

MELODY: My job.

MARIE: Well...don't.

MELODY: Not that simple, sweetie.

MARIE: Don't call me sweetie.

MELODY: Oh? I thought we were friends!

She fakes a hurt look.

MARIE: And I thought you had a job to do. But no...you don't even seem to have a life.

MELODY: (OS) Might be because I'm dead.

MARIE turns back around to look at MELODY.

MARIE: Look, I'm sorry. But there's nothing I can do about what happened.

MELODY: You weren't there to stop her.

MARIE: You know as well as I do that I couldn't-

MELODY: Yes, you could. You have powers. Don't pretend that you don't.

She pauses.

MELODY: (cont'd) Doesn't it just eat you up inside, that you could have saved all of us...if you hadn't been talking to your dearest Joseph?

MARIE looks down at her feet, but then looks up again.

MARIE: Then that wouldn't be my fault.

MELODY raises an eyebrow.

MELODY: Oh, really?

She walks around MARIE.

MELODY: (cont'd) Think that if you want to, but you know differently.

CUT TO-EXT. ? PORKY'S- ALLEY- LATE AFTERNOON

FAITH: What...How...

FAITH stares in shock at the sight of ALLAN.

FAITH: (cont'd) It's them...doing this...it's them...

ALLAN: No, it's me. Your first kill. How did it feel, Faith? Sticking that stake through my heart?

She swallows.

FAITH: H-horrible...

ALLAN: (sarcastic) Sure it did...that's why you continued killing people right?

FAITH looks down.

ALLAN: (cont'd) Yeah, that's what I thought.

FAITH: I've changed. You have no right to-

ALLAN: (shouting) No! You can't tell me what my rights are. You didn't go on explaining my rights when you killed me.

CUT TO-EXT. ? PORKY'S- SIDEWALK- AFTERNOON

MARIE walks down the sidewalk with MELODY closely following.

MARIE: Why won't you leave me alone?

MELODY shrugs.

MELODY: Because it's just so fun to annoy you?

MARIE: That's got to be it.

She turns a corner and walks through the parking lot of Porky's, and then enters an alley. She sees FAITH talking to ALLAN. MELODY peeks her head around MARIE and also sees them.

MELODY: That would be my cue to leave.

And with that, she disappears. MARIE turns to see her, and she looks confused as to where she went and what she said. Then she shrugs and turns back to FAITH.

MARIE: W-who's the guy?

She looks at ALLAN and gives him a strange look.

FAITH: He's-

ALLAN: I'm her first kill.

MARIE: Wait...what? Kill? W-w-what's he talking about?

FAITH: It was an accident.

ALLAN: Or was it?

He smirks.

ALLAN: Well...now that I've kept you for so long, Faith, I shall leave you to explain to your little friend. Be seeing you soon.

Then he vanishes just as MELODY did. MARIE turns to FAITH, confused.

MARIE: What was he talking about....kill? You murdered him?

FAITH: I didn't mean to...it was an accident...really.

MARIE: How do you accidentally murder someone?

CUT TO-EXT. ?STREETS OF SUNNYDALE-NIGHT

The entire image is static and has a small glow on it. A caption appears on the screen that reads "SUNNYDALE 1999". FAITH and BUFFY are on patrol, and FAITH sees someone over to the side. Thinking he's a vampire, she puts a stake straight through his heart.

BUFFY: Faith, no!

The camera moves to the man, and we see that he's ALLAN- a human.

CUT TO-EXT. ?PORKY'S- AFTERNOON

MARIE: Oh...

FAITH: I know...but like I said, complete accident.

MARIE looks at FAITH.

MARIE: Faith...a murder is a murder, no matter which way you dress it up. You can't change the fact that you killed him, even if it was an accident.

FAITH looks down at her feet.

FAITH: I know.

FADE TO BLACK

END OF ACT II

ACT III

CUT TO-EXT. ? CAMPUS- LATE AFTERNOON

SAM and ALAN walk out of the campus, books in hand.

SAM: That class was actually the least boring class of the day.

ALAN: It was about television. It didn't have much competition.

SAM: Very true...

They continue to walk.

ALAN: So...want to go get a cup of coffee?

SAM wrinkles her nose.

SAM: Blegh...I don't like coffee.

ALAN frowns.

ALAN: Oh.

SAM: But...I would like to go somewhere and get something! Maybe hot chocolate. Stuff that won't turn my teeth colors and shrink me to the size of an ant!

ALAN laughs.

ALAN: Okay then. A caf? it is...

They start to walk in the direction of the nearest caf?.

CUT TO-INT. ? FAITH AND ROBIN'S APARTMENT- LATE AFTERNOON

ROBIN sits on the chair, while BRIAN sits on the couch.

ROBIN: So...you were trying to get rid of your empathy.

BRIAN: What's left of it, yes. But I don't think it worked.

ROBIN: Why's that?

BRIAN: Because I can still feel what other people are feeling.

ROBIN: Oh. Well that explains it.

He pauses.

ROBIN: Why were you trying to get rid of it? I thought that demon took most of it away.

BRIAN: Key word there is most. I was doing research, and the book I was reading said that even a small amount of empathy can manifest.

ROBIN: That's a definite negative.

Just then, MARIE and FAITH walk through the door. MARIE walks over and sits down on the couch, and ROBIN walks over to FAITH, giving her a small kiss.

ROBIN: Not that it's not nice to see you, but aren't you supposed to be at work?

FAITH: Something happened.

ROBIN: Oh?

MARIE picks her head up.

MARIE: Yup! I found out that Faith's a murderer! Gee, that thought just makes me feel safer and safer.

FAITH looks away.

MARIE: (cont'd) But seriously...

Her face looks more serious than it did before.

BRIAN: Wait...what?!?

ROBIN: (to FAITH) How did she...?

FAITH looks back to everyone.

FAITH: Looks like our friend Melody's brought company.

ROBIN: Another dead person?

FAITH nods.

FAITH: Allan.

BRIAN: Wait...you killed Alan?

FAITH: No! It's a different Allan. From Sunnydale...he was the Deputy Mayor.

BRIAN: How-?

FAITH: Let's not get into the details. Let's just say it was an accident.

There is a long silence, before someone breaks it.

ROBIN: So...you're thinking someone's behind this?

FAITH: Behind what?

ROBIN: The dead people showing up.

FAITH: Well, there's gotta be. I mean, dead people don't just randomly show up. And you remember what Melody said-

MARIE: And we should believe her why? She was always a liar. That didn't change.

FAITH: Still, she may have been telling the truth. And we can't just ignore that.

MARIE: T-true...The dark ones...Just their name sounds creepy.

BRIAN: I'd hate to see the real thing.

FAITH: You're probably going to. They seem big, nasty, and after us. I mean, look how they're attacking. Each one of us, on a personal level.

Everyone takes a moment for this to sink in.

ROBIN: You're right. And we can't let them get to us.

MARIE: And that would make them winning. We don't want that.

FAITH: Definitely not. So we won't let them win.

Despite the confidence in her voice, she looked away.

CUT TO-INT. ?CAF?- LATE AFTERNOON

SAM and ALAN sit at a table in a crowded caf?.

SAM: I'm glad we found a table.

She looks around and sees everyone pushing each other to get to tables.

ALAN: I know. Otherwise, I might have had to kill a man.

SAM looks at him and widens her eyes.

ALAN: It was a joke.

SAM: Oh.

She smiles weakly. The waitress walks over with two menus and sets one in front of SAM, and one in front of ALAN.

WAITRESS: Just call me over when you're ready to order. This place is really busy tonight.

SAM: I think we're already ready to order...

She looks at ALAN, and he nods.

SAM: (cont'd) Yeah...I'll have a hot chocolate please.

ALAN: A regular coffee for me.

The waitress jots down their orders, and then takes their menus. She then leaves.

CUT TO-INT. ?CEMETERY-EVENING

FAITH walks with her arms across her chest, a stake in her hand. She looks from side to side, and sees nothing, so she continues to walk through the cemetery. Suddenly, she hears someone walking behind her and she turns around. We see that it's the VOLCANOLOGIST that FAITH killed for the MAYOR in Season 3 of Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

VOLCANOLOGIST: Well, well, well...if it isn't Faith.

FAITH: What's it to you?

VOLCANOLOGIST: You don't remember me? I'm hurt.

FAITH: Oh, I remember you. But you're not really here.

The VOLCANOLOGIST looks down at himself, and then back at FAITH.

VOLCANOLOGIST: I look pretty "here" to me.

FAITH: You're not real.

ROBIN: (V/O) You're right. And we can't let them get to us.

VOLCANOLOGIST: I was pretty real when you were stabbing me to death.

MARIE: (V/O) And that would make them winning. We don't want that.

FAITH: You're not fooling me. I know someone's doing this...to get to us.

VOLCANOLOGIST: No...but if someone was, it'd be working.

FAITH: (V/O) Definitely not. So we won't let them win.

FAITH: You can't affect me. You're not real.

VOLCANOLOGIST: Didn't we already go over this?

He sighs.

VOLCANOLOGIST: You believe what you want to believe, Faithy.

He then vanishes into thin air. FAITH looks around, but sees no one else. She continues to walk, and you can tell that she is majorly freaked by what's been going on. We pan over to the woods, where we see BISHOP and HECTOR peering through the woods.

HECTOR: She's completely oblivious.

BISHOP: I know.

HECTOR: Do you think you're ready?

BISHOP: I'm getting there.

FADE TO BLACK

END OF ACT III

ACT IV

CUT TO-INT. ?CAF?- EVENING

SAM and ALAN both have their drinks now, and they sit at the table taking sips. SAM makes a face at the coffee that ALAN is drinking.

SAM: How...can you drink that stuff?

ALAN shrugs.

ALAN: I don't know...seems a bit hard to eat it.

They both laugh.

SAM: I meant-

ALAN: I know.

SAM looks at the coffee again. She sees that it's completely black.

SAM: And you don't add anything to it?

She shudders.

SAM: That's even more disgusting.

ALAN: I don't like anything in it. Seems tainted that way. Without adding stuff, it's just coffee. Plain and simple. But when you try adding stuff, it gets all messed up.

SAM raises an eyebrow.

SAM: Was that an attempt at an analogy?

ALAN shrugs.

ALAN: Maybe. Or maybe it's just coffee.

SAM laughs.

SAM: How do you make the simplest things sound so funny?

ALAN: I'm just a funny type of guy.

SAM: I suppose you are.

She takes another sip of her hot chocolate.

CUT TO-INT. ?FAITH AND ROBIN'S APARTMENT-EVENING

MARIE, ROBIN, and BRIAN all sit in separate places in the living room.

MARIE: Do you think she's okay?

ROBIN: Would you be?

MARIE: I wasn't okay to even see Melody. I don't know how I would feel if a person I killed showed up.

ROBIN and BRIAN look at her, curiosity peaking.

MARIE: If I ever k-killed someone, that is. Which I would never do, because it's w-wrong.

BRIAN: Yeah.

ROBIN: But Allan's murder was an accident-

MARIE: As I pointed out to Faith earlier...a murder is a murder.

ROBIN: Yes, but-

MARIE: Did she kill anyone else? I mean, after Allan?

ROBIN sighs and looks down.

ROBIN: (hesitantly) Yes.

MARIE: And were they accidents?

ROBIN: (again hesitantly) No...

MARIE: You mean she killed other people willingly?

ROBIN nods slightly.

MARIE: (cont'd) T-then she's dangerous...how can you trust her?

ROBIN: What she did...it was a long time ago.

MARIE: But that doesn't change the fact that she did it.

ROBIN: I know. But she's come a long way since then.

CUT TO-INT. ?CEMETERY-EVENING

FAITH continues to walk throughout the cemetery, with her hands at her side. She thinks that she hears something behind her, and she turns around and sees nothing. She then turns back to see DIANNE, a slayer that was in Sunnydale.

DIANNE: There she is. Miss ?I-think-I'm-the-best-leader-ever'.

FAITH sighs.

DIANNE: (cont'd) You didn't protect me.

She puts her arms across her chest. FAITH rolls her eyes.

FAITH: Now this is just ridiculous.

DIANNE: So now my life matters less than the people you killed directly? Gee, thanks.

She rolls her eyes as well.

FAITH: I'm not saying your life isn't important. But by now, whoever's doing this should know that I know what's going on! My God!

DIANNE: What exactly is going on Faith?

FAITH: You're being controlled by someone.

DIANNE: I didn't mean about that. Your new life...how's that going for you?

FAITH: Get the hell away from me.

FAITH begins to walk away, and then DIANNE stops her.

DIANNE: Doesn't it bother you, that you have a band of friends that are so supernaturally inclined?

She pauses.

DIANNE: (cont'd) They don't even need you. Now that must feel horrible.

FAITH: I could care less if they needed me.

DIANNE: No...you couldn't. In fact, you don't care enough. You should start having more feelings, Faith. You can be so cold at times.

FAITH: And if you don't shut up, I'll really kill you this time...

DIANNE: I'm already dead, idiot.

FAITH: I have links. I can have someone bring you back. And then I'll kill you.

DIANNE: One small problem in that threat of yours...

She starts to walk around FAITH.

DIANNE: (cont'd) If you believe in your ridiculous theory, bringing me back would really be bringing me back...I wouldn't have anyone controlling me. So by killing me...you're just digging yourself a deeper hole.

FAITH: Yeah-

DIANNE: You're worried about the "Dark Ones". I can tell. And you should be. They're bigger than any Big Bad you've faced. Maybe you should be training.

She smirks.

DIANNE: (cont'd) Just like you trained us...before you got us killed.

FAITH: Leave me alone.

FAITH doesn't even give DIANNE the time to disappear. FAITH merely walks out of the graveyard, leaving DIANNE standing there until she eventually goes away.

CUT TO-INT. ?FAITH AND ROBIN'S APARTMENT- EVENING

FAITH walks through the door and hangs her coat up on the coat rack. She stretches her arms and then walks back to her and ROBIN'S room. She gets under the covers and turns the light off. ROBIN turns to her.

ROBIN: You okay?

FAITH: I'm fine.

She turns away from him. We close-up on her face and see a tear fall from her face.

CUT TO-EXT. ?FAITH AND ROBIN'S APARTMENT BUILDING- EVENING

A man looks up at the window of FAITH and ROBIN'S room. Another man is standing beside him.

MAN 1: This is the place?

MAN 2: Yes.

MAN 1: Thank you.

MAN 2 nods and then walks away. MAN 1 steps forward.

MAN 1: Finally, I found him.

FADE TO BLACK
