Hey Llywela I had read a few of your pieces on BW, but rediscovered them here- I really like "Wish Unbroken" and frankly, would love to see it continue as I think Andrew and Kendra would be super amusing in a scene together.
I do have notes for possibly continuing the Wishverse. Seeing how this mix of characters would interact - can't you just picture Wishverse!Giles facing off against Kendra's official Watcher! All on the same side, but not quite in the same corner. But somehow it's never quite happened. Yet. Maybe one day...
I am so grateful that you're here. I wondered what was up when I found myself on an ebay Australia site... You're the fan fic I've followed the longest and loved dearly...
Aww, thank you That's so lovely of you to say. We are all very saddened by the loss of Buffyworld - the owner decided after months of database problems that he would close both the forum and the site. Fortunately, Nikki set up this alternate forum, and much of the community has migrated here (thank goodness!)
My little Monico series has been chugging along for a very long time now! I've broken ground on the next story, which should be the final chapter in the first phase. After that it's all change! But I have no idea how long it's going to take to complete. My fic-muse is not very cooperative.
Just read chapter 11 of Monico (I know slow reader) and i feel all warm inside from the last bit. That's a lovely touching bit of dialogue between Anouk and Oz (who as i've said before you have absolutely nailed - i mean i can actually picture him speaking the lines in places). On that note I love Anouk she's a great character; original but with that authentic jossyness to her and definitely a cutie. I also like Ed as a villain, theres a touch of angelus's cruelty in there, mixed with a bit of the brother fom fray but much, much more.
I'm going to make a concerted effort now to read the last few (time allowing) . Can't wait to see what happens.
Just read this lovely little fic and loved it. admittedly i have been looking forward to this one but it certainly did't let me down.
The sense of place comes through really strongly as does the strangeness of it compared to modern life. Touches like the dormouse and the giraffe make it seem really... real, if you know what i mean.
Also although as you state the plot is fairly smple the fact that there is so much tragedy and history around that table is a really thoughtful and poignant point and gives the simplicity an epicness. I like the whole accidental tourist thing though. It's very Who going back through the years and his cheerful 'never mind, lets make the best of it atitude is absolutely spot on.
Possibly the only teeny tiny bit if criticism i would reluctantly give is that although Rose and Jack come off very well i wasn't entirely sure wether the
Doctor was 9 or 10. Apart from that though it's another beeeaut.
A true crossover, equally authentic for both um "crosses" as they ... "over"
Very clever, very funny ...
"Jack shrugged. 'Since when did the Romans have a problem with keeping it in the family?' "
... but mainly, very, very crossey - Who, Rose and Jack spoke and behaved like themselves at - yes, at all times, such careful respect for the dollies wins my hugest respeck. There wasn't an iota of indulgence (well, a little drool over Mark Antony, but sheeeeshhhh, lucky Cleo, absolutely nodding at the leather-skirt remark. He made it look so good, so very manly.)
Rome really whiffed of "Rome," glamorous, pagan, thoroughly convincing in its ambitious amorality and incipient violence. Stuffed dormouse *smiles fondly* and the graffiti *sighs deeply* - all the writing on the wall about times to come (or past, depending which cross of the crossover we were listening to.)
Mainly the mixyness of the two together. For one of the most solid, quality fanfickers around, the playfulness was great fun, Jo. Keeping serving us stuffed dormouse ... ses (ice?) they go down a treat.

Thanks, tangent! I'm glad you like it - big relief The alienness of Roman life is something that always struck me about the show Rome - how much we take for granted the impact of judeo-christianity upon almost every aspect of our society today, without even being aware of it, so that a pre-christian culture such as that of the late Roman Republic is completely alien to us. That was an aspect I really wanted to draw out in this story, Rose's perspective being an ideal tool for that, as she is such a thoroughly modern miss. The Doctor and Jack are such seasoned time travellers, they take it all in their stride, but to Rose every place they travel is a new and exciting experience.
I set the story in between The Doctor Dances and Boomtown on purpose. Partly because the prompt called for the Doctor, Rose and Jack, and that was the only point in the show where that particular combination was possible. But also because I love the atmosphere of the Tardis Trio at that point - in Boomtown they are all so happy, light-hearted and relaxed in each others' company, having so much fun just being together, exploring together. I wanted to capture a bit of that spirit in this story.
Possibly the only teeny tiny bit if criticism i would reluctantly give is that although Rose and Jack come off very well i wasn't entirely sure wether the Doctor was 9 or 10. Apart from that though it's another beeeaut.
More?
Nine - season one, see I wondered while writing if my Nine voice was occasionally sliding into a touch of Tenness, but on the whole I think if you read his lines with Nine's voice in mind, it sounds okay. Characters voices in fic are always such a subjective thing! Very difficult to get right.
More? Seriously - you know how I only write fic once every blue moon when the sky turns green...

Thank you! That means a lot.

I can't take the credit for that particular line, though - Wolfie suggested that one.

Um. Yeah. You have to allow me my Mark Antony indulgence! I was so good about Pullo and Vorenus...

The richness of the period detail is just another facet of the show Rome that I love so much, and trying to draw as much of that into the story as possible was tremendous fun.
Thanks for taking the time to comment - I'm really pleased that you like the story
