Organising Fanart Battles

Welcome to the battles! While it is called Photoshop Battles you can battle with Paint Shop Pro also.

This concept was created at Butterfly Forums on ti-fi.com.

This is the rules updated. Only minor things have changed like battles can now be up to 10 rounds if you want to go further. Also can people please make sure they read them again as the rules of taking a piece from a previous round and not posting art in other threads until the battle is over needs to be observed

The Rules: – if these are not followed you will have your battle closed.

1. A photoshop battle is held between two artists in either 6, 8 or10 rounds (you can chose how many rounds you want. Each artist must have half the rounds). But you must state how many rounds you are doing when you start and stick to it.
2. The subject is free. Can be Buffy related, can be digital art, can be anything. However a couple can decide to give themselves a subject which they pronounce in the first post. They have to stick with it then!
3. The concept is to work with each others art. The idea is to use something, anything or everything from the other persons artwork in yours. You are free in how you'll use it, but we have to see/recognize (note: setting the other's whole piece to lighten/screen over yours does not cut it) it in the end result. (not like you should see the 1st in the 6th, but the 1 in the 2nd, the 2nd in the 3rd... etc)
4. Each round will take no longer then 1 week. Rounds that last longer will get one warning then be shut down. It’s not fair to keep others waiting to start.
5. If you would like to battle someone please PM either Nikki, Jenni Lou or Smth_Blue to get approval then contact the member you would like to battle, or leave a message in this thread if you are looking for a partner to see if someone else may be interested.
6. You are allowed to start your battle as soon as you and your partner are up to it. But you can have only 1 battle going at any time.
7. You can post your battle art only in the battle thread. It can’t be posted in any of the fanart threads for feedback until after the battle is over.
8. A maximum of 4 battles going on at once.

Thread rules:

1. The one who starts the battle, starts the thread.
2. Everyone is allowed to give feedback or encouragement after a piece or art or in anticipation of the next. Just know duplicate posting is spam.
3. Do not ask the battlers about when they will post next, just wait and see, they know the deadlines too.
4. After the final entry if requested we will make a poll and you guys can vote the winner or winning pieces!!! The poll will probably last 2 weeks.

I'm not sure if this is where I should ask, but it seemed like the appropreiate thread to do it in. Feel free to delete this post if I'm not suppose to me asking in here.

Anyways, I was wondering how one goes about getting in a battle with someone. I am interested in taking part in one, but am fairly new to the forum and so I'm not sure if anyone is interested or who to ask. Is there a place to request someone to join a battle with me, or is it all set up on the sidelines?

Yeah, it is sort of set up on the sidelines. I would just PM a few people you would be interested in doing a battle with and see if they are down for it! We're not cliquey and elite and everyone is really nice. Some people like battles and some don't. So just reach out to a few folks and see if they are interested!

I used to do a couple battles in the past, I sort of miss doing them myself. Maybe a sign up/request thread would be more helpfull instead of PMing random people? Some newbies are too shy to PM people, even if everyone is great here .

I tend to agree with Ensign. I remember being a new member and wanting to get in battled, but not really knowing anyone on the forum or who might be interested battling with me. You can even see my post is in this thread above from when I first joined asking how to go about starting one. Perhaps we can start a separate thread or even use this thread and keep a list of those interested in battling. Or for making post putting the offer out there. A simple area we where one can post that they are interested in taking part in a battle and someone can respond in that thread or via PM that they will take part with them.

If we keep a list of those interested in battling some where it may also be helpful to have a little side list to go with each member of that member's preferred fandoms to work in, so those new can refer to that when deciding who would be a good match fandom-wise to battle.

Ensign, while at the moment it working through PM, I found it helpful to look at the list of the past battles and ask someone who appeared on the list a few times since I knew they already had an interest in battling someone. I am currently in talks about starting a battle with Wendy (wenj) and am waiting list to battle Travis (DigitialLeonardo) after he finishes up his current one with Jenn (darkprophet). After those if you are still looking for someone to battle, I would be glad to join you in one!

I am fine with using this thread as a way for members to convey their interest in doing a battle and seeking someone to do that with. So if anyone wants to leave a message saying they are looking for a partner, go for it.

I suggest leaving your message and then perhaps whoever is interested can leave a message on your profile page or send you a PM. I realize it may be awkward to approach someone you don't know if you are somewhat new to our boards. Just keep in mind that battles aren't particularly popular. There's always a few running but there is rarely an actual waiting list. So don't go expecting someone to take you up on starting up a battle right away. But leaving a note in this thread that it is something you would like to do is fine.

I have modified rule #5 to reflect this change.

At one point in this thread, we had a list of people who were currently interested in finding battle partners. Maybe doing that again would help?

I agree. In fact, I was thinking that as I went t sleep and was like "Damn! I should have written that in the thread too."

Hey just read thew last few posts and I think having somewhere to request battle-ees, or battle-rs or whatever is a great idea!

I have only ever done one battle with Wendy, no one has ever actually asked me to do one, and I have never really thought about actively going out and finding someone to battle with (mostly because I suck at coming up with battle ideas!) - but if there was someone with a list of people wanting to battle with some kind of list of fandoms or a battle idea or something then I'd probably be battling more! I really enjoyed my one battle and would definitely be up for another one as it gave me inspiration and made me art!!

I know this hasn't been updated in a while, and I couldn't see anywhere where this list had actually been put into practice so I just thought I'd post a reply and say 'hey that's a fab idea, please do it!'

I'd definitely be interested in trying it out. I've talked about fan art battles with a couple of people, but we never really settled on anything. Besides, it'd motivate me to get my butt going with artwork But it is a really good idea... kind of like a little directory. It will probably come in handy and who knows? The artist someone may have been wanting to battle, but didn't ask could be on that list. Again, great idea

Okay then. Started up a list. I will add myself at some point but I want to wait a bit. With the AFA noms and awards and my own things, I don't wan to put myself out there just yet. Hopefully we will get some other interested parties to add to the list soon. But this is a good idea for those who don't know how to approach starting a battle.

I would love to sign up, I had one unfinished battle with Nina, I’d love to do another one and actually get to the end this time, and I just needs something to get me into active wall making again. Oh maybe putting interests down would be good I am currently obsessing over: Doctor who and Harry Potter I love Jossverse too just not that into it at the moment. I would love to do a battle revolving around an actor/actress and there work. Oh and not loving Twilight at all.

So it seems like it?s the time of year when I have time on my hands again and seeing as my muse seems to be coming back to me I would love to try doing a battle with someone I?ve noticed the list of people above (and I will try and contact them via PMs) but I wasn?t sure how active they are these days so just wanted to drop a message here, too. I don?t have a firm idea in my head just yet, I think that might be better to sort out together, but Im opened to a lot of fandoms - Buffy/Angel of course, Vampire Diaries, Hunger Games, Harry Potter, Leverage, Avengers (and all their heroes and respective movies, extra yay for someone willing to do a Loki-themed battle ) but Im very flexible

I don't know if you already have a partner for a challenge, but if you don't mind a slow battle (I won't manage to get an entry in every other day, and probably need that week for every entry.) I would like to do a battle with you (or with somebody else in case you already have a partner.). I could use some extra inspiration and battles are usually my inspiration boost.
