  • The Music of SN - Come on, you know you LOVE it!

I know I personally LOVE the music that is played all through out the series. I love that the classic rock that the creators have chosen totally meshes with our two guys!

What I'd like to discuss here is what are some of your favorite song/scenes that have aired in Supernatural and what songs would you love to hear in the upcoming seasons?

A couple that stand out for me:

When Dean got the car back after beating it to hell and back - the beginning of the episode ACDC's 'Back in Black' is played as we see the car cruising down the road. That was awesome! Totally appropriate.

I also liked 'Wayward Son' that was played at the end of S1 and into the beginning of S2. It was fitting with John's leaving his hunting legacy to his boys.

As for upcoming songs - I would LOVE to hear Bad Company's "Burnin' Sky" That song would fit, especially with the upcoming season IMO...the initial lyrics are 'The Sky is burning...I can feel my soul on fire'...so fitting for Dean in S3! Plus, it's an awesome classic rock tune that fits with the show's musical genre.

God, I love the music on SN I am a huge fan of 70s rockmusic and their choice of music if amazing. Some of my favourites are:

Hunted: The intro sequence with Jefferson Airplanes 'White Rabbit'. I squeed when the song started I love how the song slowly fades in, creating a fantastic psychedelic and creepy atmosphere.

Something Wicked: Ozzy Osbourne's 'Road To Nowhere'. The lyrics just resonate incredibly well with Dean in that moment. Tears me up every time.

Skin: In A Gadda Da Vida by Iron Butterfly. The driving beat of the music and it's dark theme just matches the gory intro scene perfectly. Awesome choice!

Nightshifter: Styx's 'Renegade'. The lyrics are spot on and I love that the song starts out with the quiet multi-voices chorus (We are so screwed) and then turns into an upbeat and bold tune as the boys make their getaway.

I don't have any special songs that I would like to hear I love to be surprised!

*Squeals* ooh, that's one of my favorites as well...I'd forgotten!

Another that I forgot to mention: in Devil's Trap - 'Fight the Good Fight' by Triumph. AWESOME song! and the lyrics fit that eppy so perfectly!

I have to agree that "Carry On (My Wayward Son)" really sticks out because now whenever I hear it on the radio, I think of Supernatural. I should really watch all the episodes again before posting here, but oh, well...

"Silent Lucidity" from the episode "Heart"
        "Fight the Good Fight"

For some reason, "Knocking on Heaven's Door" sticks out from "Houses of the Holy" even though I found it odd that they played the Guns 'n Roses version instead of the original one, since they go with the classic rock.

I absolutely adore the soundtrack that Supernatural has, I signed up at the music's fanlisting, heh.

At Asylum the Supernatual convention that they did in UK they played so many songs from the show and everytime another one came on everyone got all squee-y and excited, heh. Yes... I was one of those people. Lol.

I have to admit though, that one of my favourite scenes is in Bloodlust when we see the Impala back in action and Back in Black is playing, from that moment on any time I hear that song I just picture that scene. Heh.

Umm as far as I am aware there is no official soundtrack... I just meant the tracks they have used throughout the series.

I would love it if they did release a Soundtrack for the show, but for now I'll just stick with the compilations that I make up, heh. I recorded DVDs of all of the episodes and had 2 eps on each disc, and every disc had a different song from the show as the background music for the menus, hee.

Well I have to adore that they played songs such as Wayward Son, Wheel in the Sky, and Renegade! Each of these are ones I waited and waited for the show to finally dish out and I'm very impressed with the delivery of each.

Wayward Son in Salvation was brilliantly matched with the scenes. Such poignancy and heartbreak. I found it much less effectual when played in AHBL2.

Wheel in the Sky was wonderful in that it was the opener for when they first were able to get back on the road whether they felt like it or not.

And Renegade was stunning with the slow intro as you're realizing that's the boys in those SWAT outfits. And it's so forceful in how it kicks in slamming home the point of just how deep in trouble they are.

Silent Lucidity and Road to Nowhere are two songs I actually just love to pieces anyway. So their meaningful inclusion to say what the show couldn't say in words was heartwrenching and each brought me to tears. Silent Lucidity more so because that song has been like a piece of me for so long. Though Road to Nowhere was very powerful as I had just been contemplating that very sentiment before the episode aired (though my brain hadn't yet clicked on the song being used)

Songs that really reached out to me that I was not very familiar with were "Back on the Road Again" (REO) from the end of BUABS. I loved the beat and its deceptively positive tone. "Can't Find My Way Back Home" at the end of Route 666, (which I knew from a Styx cover album rather than the original artist) was perfect in message and melancoly tone. And best of all, "Fight the Good Fight" from Devils Trap. Utterly amazing lyrically for the show as well a perfectly awesome melodic rock tune!

I've got a question. Does anyone know what song is playing in Nightmare when Sam and Dean are first in the Impala after Sam has woken from his vision about Max Miller's dad? That one has always bothered me since it sounds so familiar but I just can't hear it clear enough to make out any of the lyrics.

                Lydia made the punch!

I believe it's "Two by Two" by The Bob Seger System...but I could be wrong...

Another one that wasn't mentioned was Bad Company by Bad Company in Scarecrow...that's a classic...

Oh, and Don't Fear the Reaper by the Blue Oyster Cult in Faith...super fitting song!

Skin: In A Gadda Da Vida by Iron Butterfly. The driving beat of the music and it's dark theme just matches the gory intro scene perfectly. Awesome choice!
Couldn't have said it better myself!

No One Like You by the Scorpions at the end of Bugs is just a cool song...they always play the coolest songs while the boys are driving off at the end...

I think that's the one playing DURING Sam's vision. If I'm wrong, then what's that one then? I'm wanting the one after they leave the hotel.

Another one that wasn't mentioned was Bad Company by Bad Company in Scarecrow...that's a classic...

Ahh yes!!! Don't Fear the Reaper was absolutely brilliant. I love the suspensful build up to the audience's reveal of the week's monster. But adore how if you're a classic rock fan, you know long before the chorus breaks in with what the Winchesters are dealing with!

Foreigner's Cold as Ice is deliciously wicked in the end of No Exit! So awesome in all the awkwardness and Ellen's chilly reception.

I also absolutely adore the Rolling Stone's Laugh, I Almost Died at the end of Bloody Mary. Such a beautiful song that matches the transcendent moment of Sam accepting Jessica's death. And Fall Out Boy's Sugar We're Going Down is such evil foreshadowing earlier in the episode!

I agree inclusion of Scorpions was awesome as well as Def Leppard and Ratt earlier, I so wish more 80s metal was included these days.

                    Lydia made the punch!

This could just be my personal thing, but I was so psyched when they played Steve Carlson's song in Provenance, I think it was Night Time. Purely because I am a huge Kane fan (and also have Steve's solo albums as well) and have seen them live a few times, so when I heard it playing I got all squee-y. :P

And Ehlwyen I checked out the SPN Music site (after typing what I did above just to be sure I had the song right, lol) but they only have the Bob Seger System song listed there, *shrugs* I'll need to watch that episode again now and see what's being played!

That is a kick-ass CD, Ben! But since I all ready have all of those songs on a playlist somewhere, I probably won't be buying it...

But, it would be fun to design a CD cover for it....oooh, hold that thought...that could be a fanart challenge idea...when mine comes up in like 5 months...

I'm in a silly mood today... Don't mind me...
