  • 4.03 "Man in the Outhouse" Spoiler Discussion Thread

    The body of the host of a popular reality TV show is found partially decomposed in an outhouse, and Booth and Brennan must find out who the killer is. Meanwhile, Booth learns that Brennan is juggling two relationships.

    I loved this episode much more than the two of last week.

    The case;
    I kind of knew why the guy was killed after we found out who he was, but it was okay. The corpse was disgusting and they used those special suits (The shot of Sweet after he sneezed ... yukkie) ... I loved that.

    The new intern;
    I guess that we have a new intern every episode? I was sad to see Clark go last week, but I was happy that this girl would leave. I don't hope that she will be Sweet's girlfriend ... I have no interest in seeing her again. First she looked cute but after a couple of scenes, I saw enough.

    Brennan and her lovers;
    You date two guys because of your needs, but have no interest in their needs? (the sex buddy looked sad after he heard that Brennan went on dates) Not very classy Tempe.
    And really, how much time does it take her to understand that Booth has a gigantic crush on her? I always feel bad for Booth if Brennan jumps from man to man, while telling him that relationships don't work and that it's impossible to have one man.

    Booth;
    I'm happy that I saw the normal Booth again. I liked him in the episode, he is annoying when Brennan has a date (he already did that when she was with Sully) ... but it's cute. The only think that bothers me is the moral message the writers gave us today, but that wasn't really Booth's fault ...

    The squints;
    Like them today, only there was not much happening around Angela/Hodgins. I guess that they decided to act normal around eachother and stay out of eachothers way if it's possible.

    I got the impression that she thought that they both understood what kind of relationship they had with her. I don't think she realized she was stringing them along.

    Right? I love how Sweets was just watching and totally knowing.

    But I have to say that I really liked the B/B scenes. Booth is such a romantic and I really like that he doesn't think anyone is good enough for her. It felt a little heavy-handed at the end with the one true love speech but I still enjoyed it.

    Yeah, you know, they could have tossed in a little awkward look at each other or something. Instead it just comes off as if this breakup never happened. :/

      So much better than last week!

      The case wasn't as predictable, although
      Spoiler:
      as soon as the "entrapment" chick said she was sharing a house with a guy I knew it would be him!

      Booth was darling in this episode - I adored the way he looked at Brennan when he gave her that speech, and the way she looked back - what is wrong with this woman? - he was basically telling her that he was the only one for her and she didn't get it? The way he interrogated The Gay Botanist was so spot on for him too!

      I found this episode very funny too - Sweets pretending to be a robot, him sneezing in his suit etc, but I do kinda miss the pathos that the show had in the first 2 seasons. No one seems to care about the victims or the people affected by the death anymore. It's all "La La La we've found the murderer now let's chat about our personal stuff", where as before we used to get moving scenes with funerals and family reunions and the like. It's a shame really that the emotional stuff has been moved completely to the main characters instead of a bit of both.

      I agree that there was too little uncomfortableness between Angela and Hodgins, but I disagree Jenni that there wasn't anything. It's only a small moment but when Angela is showing them the tattoo on the woman's back, there's a shot of Hodgins looking at her wistfully.

      I saw a trailer for this episode and it included a clip of Angela telling Brennan that she didn't know how to act around Hodgins - maybe it was cut, or from another episode but it feels that it should've been in this one somewhere.

      Brennan's new assistant, uhm her name is...it's on the tip of my tongue, oh who cares she's gone now anyway - was cool in that you knew immediately that Brennan wasn't going to like her, and I was just waiting for the moment for them to meet so I could see Brennan's reaction. I didn't think she would be quite that abrupt, but that made it all the more Brennan-like, so it was perfect. Nice to see Sweet's isn't a complete loser in the romance stakes, and although I'm delighted he's probably going to end up dating her, I don't need to see her again - she was way too annoying and a joke that gets old fast. By the way, there was a bit when she said something to Cam and Hodgins (can't remember what but it was something to do with her working there) when I really wanted Hodgins to say that Zach was much better than her and that he was a friend etc, but all we got was a shot of them being bemused by her - a wasted opportunity /sigh

        Ah, I did not notice that. t must have happened during one of moments my daughter was jumping on my lap.

        1. That actress was on a show called Undeclared and I found her rather annoying on that too. So I am going to blame the actress instead of the character.

        2. omg, I loved when she was trying to introduce herself and Brennan responded "I'd rather not learn your name until I've assessed you work." Paraphrased, of course. Brennan cracks me up.

        One thing I have been missing since season two-ish... Brennan's "I don't know what that means." I love when she is completely clueless about pop culture!!

          Hahah yeah! I'm watching season one right now and it's full of that haha.

          I love Booth. Like seriously. I love how annoying he is to Brennan and just interrupts her dates. It's funny (and sweet) of how overbearing (or overprotective) he is of her, kind of like a brother, yet not.

          UGH that intern was sooo annoying. I love what Brennan said about heroes though, I totally called she would say that (it reminded me of that movie 'Wish Upon a Star' with Katherine Heigl in the 90's yanno?). It was funny to hear she as fired.

          I have to say, I miss Z man..

            I missed the first 2 episodes because I didn't realise it had started airing over here I enjoyed this episode, I love jealous Booth and his speech at the end was sweet. I felt that this episode was a lot more about the main characters though than the actual case. Also does anyone else love Sweets, no one seems to but I think he is a great character for the show I find him really funny.

              It's hard to keep up for me this season, so I'm way behind and only just finished 4.03...

              Seriously, I think they are trying to copy last season of House here with all the new interns, which strikes me as rather pathetic.....I guess they have no other ideas as to how to shake things up!

              And I actually wasn't bothered THAT much by the new intern--I actually found Clark to be more annoying. Maybe it was because this Daisy person was SUPPOSED to be annoying, and thus I found her more tolerable than a person like Clark who wasn't supposed to be annoying, but still was. I wouldn't mind seeing her again, more so than Clark.....though in a Sweets-dating capacity. I think they'd be a cute couple, they have a lot in common...

              What moral message, monogamy? I didn't notice anything that bad, though I have been bugged by some of the right-wing messages on the show before....

              Seriously! Or even as if they never dated in the first place--it doesn't make sense......it's like they forgot about that idiotic storyline! Continuity people....it's your friend!

              Yeah, same here--though I forgot who that girl was at the time because I watched the epp in two parts over two days!

              The way he interrogated The Gay Botanist was so spot on for him too!
              Yeah, that was funny (especially the "Coldplay!" part), though I guess he wasn't really gay given the end....

              I found this episode very funny too - Sweets pretending to be a robot, him sneezing in his suit etc,
              Aw, that reminds me though of season 1 when Zack didn't want to put on the IR suit because it made him look like Darth Vadar, and Booth was making fun of him and Brennan didn't get it....

              Wow, I hadn't thought of that, but you're totally right, they do seem to have forgotten about that part of the show.....but then again, they seem to have forgotten a lot of stuff since season 2, though this episode was better than a lot of season 3 ones IMO....

              Yeah, I didn't catch that....
