Okay, I am just trying to catch up on some things in here. I am loving True Blood, and didn't think I would after the first episode but it grew on me really quickly. I've read the books (well the first 5, I've just got the 6th recently but haven't been well so am only a few chapters into it and I definitely need to invest in the other 2? 3? I don't know!) and really enjoyed them, and it's nice to see the series staying close to the book, but straying from it at the same time, It makes it interesting to watch and not always know what's going on!!

Overall I was pretty pleased with the finale...though I wish they could have been a little closer to the novel.
I wanted Eric to send her flowers,

    Spoiler:

I'm worried the Eric & Sookie relationship is going to be pushed aside a little bit, as they seem to be really forcing the Bill & Sookie partnership.

One of my biggest gripes about the series is the fact they've left out Bubba! I can't believe him, I love him in the books, and don't know how they're going to do the Club Dead scenes without him? Unless they introduce another 'simple' vampire to follow instructions. I was really looking forward to seeing Bubba and how they would do his character so was kind of disappointed by this,

    1. Though I can't imagine her connection to Sam in the show, it wasn't like that in the novels, so I suppose we just have to guess
I just assumed that Sam & MaryAnn were supposed to have been together prior to seeing her in Bon Temps? I know in the books he met her out in the woods and the two were together, but I figured the series had just decided to make it a past relationship instead of something that is going to be 'current' ?? Who knows, guess we'll need to wait and see!

I was also wondering that. I thought the body had been stuffed in the car right after Lafayette had been killed so it begs the question, where was his body being kept for two whole weeks?

I think they are getting Jason involved (stupid Jason!) to set Sookie up to go into the Belly of the Beast as it were because he gets in way over his head...again. Though there's so much storyline there (in Dallas) that I am scared of what is going to happen with this new direction they are taking with Jason.
Of all of the books LDID was probably my least favourite, it just felt quite disconnected. They set up the Lafayette mystery at the start and introduced the Maenad, and then all of a sudden we were in Dallas on a whole new mystery, and then at the end of the book suddenly we're back in Bon Temps and figuring things out? I don't what it was about it, I just didn't enjoy the way the mysteries had been set up in this book. I am actually looking forward to seeing how they do it in the series. I have to admit I'd prefer if they had Sookie staying in Bon Temps and just travelling through to Dallas for a couple of nights here and there and working the two mysteries simultaneously instead... I don't know... I have no idea how far apart these places are, :S

They really cut out a lot this season, from my view, that really sets him up to be in the running for Sookie's affections, though constantly trying to get Bill to give her to him really fits his personality And they did set up quite a few things that I was pleased to see, for instance that he wants her and is thinking about her, though not sure as to why. I would also like to see more Pam. For some reason I really like her, and I think on the show they are capturing her (accent aside) very well. And I really hope they bring in some of the other vamps we see in the novel and expand our knowledge of the vampire political system, because I always found that to be interesting. Plus, would like to know what's up with the Congressman that Laffyette went to visit....sort of left that hanging a bit And now I am super curious about Sam taking all that money from the safe!!
I thought Sam was taking the money as an offering to Mary Ann? Since he knows who/what she is? Or I am assuming he knows from the way the series has set it up. I just thought that perhaps Sam had met her at some other place she had been prior to Bon Temps. I have no idea really, lol.

But I totally agree on the Sookie/Eric front. They really need to bring him into her life more and get him more involved in the story. Especially with the Dead To The World storylines coming up!! I loved that book, and Eric and am hoping for a fourth series so we can see it!!

I adore Pam! I think she's awesome, I just have to laugh at some of the comments she comes out with, and I'd love to see more of her around on the series too.

But I guess we'll just have to wait and see!!

Sorry, just REALLY had an itch to reply to all of that!!!

There are eight published at this point and the 9th is due out in May 2009. *sigh* A long time to wait I am so ready for it NOW! I am beyond addicted and I know what you mean about staying close but staying away, it brings a little surprise and mystery in it to the readers of the fandom. However, that said, I really wish they would make Jason more like the book...I just cannot get into his character in the show. I just can't help but dislike him because he's such an idiot.

    Spoiler:
I can definitely see how Sookie comes to hate him in the novels if he acted like this! But in the novel all I feel is sort of sorry for him. So much happens to him that he didn't bring on himself, which is sort of surprising

I wanted Eric to send her flowers,
Me too! I was so disappointed because they didn't even mention him caring about the attack. It was actually my favorite part of the novel so I am still fuming a bit about that. Stupid writers!

    Spoiler:

It is scary and it does look like it to me as well. They are actually making Eric more of a jerk in the way he is persuing her. In the novel it's sort of cute and endearing. In the show it just makes him look pushy, like he just wants a possession. And I don't like Bill! I want her away from him...with Eric...where she belongs!!

I don't know, but I don't want to see another 'simple' vampire, I want Bubba . It just wouldn't work as well to me, because Bubba may be simple, but he's someone you care about. He has a more 'human' side then the other vampires...even though he does feed on pets!

I tend to agree. The book starts going in one directions, turns about 3 times, and then finally it's like 'oh yeah! Remember when they found Lafayette's body...well this is what happened!'. Plus I really didn't enjoy Bill at all in this novel. In the first one I was okay with him...the 2nd I was sort of grudgingly accepting them together...and by the thrid I hated him completely. I am very curious to see how they approach LDID too. And in answer to your question it's about a 6-7 hour drive at most from Dallas to Shreveport (being way generous) and only a quick trip by plane. Honestly in the book I think it took them longer from the way she talked about it...but I can't imagine it taking that long.

I thought Sam was taking the money as an offering to Mary Ann? Since he knows who/what she is? Or I am assuming he knows from the way the series has set it up. I just thought that perhaps Sam had met her at some other place she had been prior to Bon Temps. I have no idea really, lol.
Maybe, but in the book when Eric is telling Sookie about Meanads he tells her they don't value money...only madness and the ocassional predatory animal. And maybe he had...they definetly knew each other when she came for Tara and he was not happy about it.

MAN!!! So i just watched all eposides back to back on my friends Tivo... *fans myself* fricken awesome!!! I mean really! I read the books years ago.. and when i heard of the show coming out my first thought was "please dont track mud through the story,.. please." But overall i am very impressed with the show. I love how they were able to stay true to the story but spiffed up the story a bit!

I like how jason had a steady girlfriend, and i agree with the vampire they kidnapped that she was psyco. And i LLooved that they gave lafiyette a storyline, he was probably one of my favorite characters. And the demon that tara and her mom had was a spectacular addition to the story!
      Spoiler:
But i didnt like how they made tara a vampire hater seeing how in a few books they have her dating a vampire.. and BTw what about tara's togs?? i really hope they give her her store like the one she had on the book!

Even though i knew about gran... i balled like a baby, ECSPECAILLY when she was eating the pecan pie... man was the a rough seen! Anna paquin did a most excellent job protraying sookie! The first few eps i wasnt a jason fan, but after he started growing a conscience about kidnapping the vampire i started to like him better.

      Things i did like:
1)Gran, she was the best actor for the job hands down! 2)Sam and tara as a couple. 3)"i gotta demon in me!". 4)Eric and pam they were exactly how i imagined!!!!! 5) Fangtasia it was exactly how i pictured it! 6) Renee's accent. Even though it was horribly fake lol. 7) Sookie's house i think they did an excellent job protraying it.

      Things i didnt like:
      1) The lack of tattoos on eric... humph.. i was really hoping they would stay true with that one. 2)The way everyone pronounced sookie's name in my head i pronounced it sue-key. 3) And also the way they pronounced bon temps.. i thought it to be said the way its spelled but they pronounced it "bontomp" idk. 4) the lack of eric/sookie interactions... hopefully that will pick up drastically in season two! 5) The vampire girl bill made.. that was kind of weird. 6) The color of arlene's hair.. it looked like a bad dye job to me. 7) The introduction to the show.. i didnt feel like it fit very well.

All in all i am counting the days until i can see the second season! i am very glad they stayed true to the main storys' arcs, and love how they added in backgrounds for characters that didnt have much of anything in the book!

Well, it's French, as are a lot of Louisiana towns. So that's how Bon Temps is actually pronounced. If anything, the two years of French I took in high school taught me pronunciation. And that's about all I got out of it.

        7) The introduction to the show.. i didnt feel like it fit very well.
Oh, yeah, The first few eps are the weakest. It took a few before it found its footing. That's why we were telling people earlier in this thread that they just need to stick through it for a few eps. 'Cause after that it gets awesome.

Yes, that was sad. Seeing Tara in the vampire world was a very good contrast to Sookie's place in it. I always loved how CH used that to show not everyone is quite as welcome or lucky with undead relationships. But, as for the store, I don't think it will be all that missed since it isn't a dominate setting in the books. I think I remember Sookie going in there only once or twice.

          Things i did like:
Sookie's house i think they did an excellent job protraying it.
Yes, other then in the book it was a one story, so thus hidey holes were easy. But, in the show, two story with the bedrooms upstairs. I loved the hiding hole angle for some reason and am sad that I don't think it will get incorporated Especially if they get to Eric's amnesia...how is he suppose to stay with her? A closet?!

Eric had tats in the novels? I don't remember that. I know Chow did, which I think it was sad they weren't included, I was actually sort of interested in seeing them. Plus, the Chow I imagined, nothing like the man they chose...he doesn't really look like a vampire who would be a bartender And Sookie (as proounced in the show) is actually quite common aournd Lousiana and Southern Texas and that's how it is pronounced, so I suppose I just consider it normal.

Yes, the lack of Sookie and Eric was disturbing because all the places they cut his involvement were important in the building of their relationship. Now I just don't exactly know how he will become endeared to her and how she will come to see him as a more....human?vampire like Bill. *sigh* And about Arlene's hair, it is often described as bad in the novels Which I thought was kind of cute to be seen in the show...plus, my guess is beauty shops aren't exactly a bustling trade in that town

I don't remember Eric ever having tattoos in the books either... hmm... how odd.. and I only just read them all last year!

I agree about Chow though, he was described as being gorgeous and someone from like some old gang or smething, and the guy they picked, just was not the Chow in my head! Like AT all. I wish they had shown him at least with his tattoos, but hey.

I know, I was picturing someone with at least the tiniest inclination to be attractive. He was described as a must see...and honestly, if they give him tattoos I can most certainly live without seeing them . Now if they want to give Eric tattoos, please lets do show those!! Though since we've seen most of Eric in Bill's bathtub ** I don't think they will add any ink to his body that we will get to see.

And SJ I am right there with you! I hate that they didn't include him! It was the absolute BIGGEST mistake they could have made and honsetly if I didn't love the show, they would have lost me right there!

OMG!!!! After the series finished my first words were.. 'were in the hell was bubba???" My boyfriend needed explaining but i was like.. he was suppose to watch over sookie when bill left town! I reallly hope they bring him on.. in book 5 or 6 (or maybe 4 i cant for the life of me rememebr which one) he plays an important role when sookie is al alcides apartment. Hum i wonder who will play him....

Maybe i confused erics tattos with chows.... was it chow who had dark blue tattoos all over his body?? It prolly was... i have all this information in my head it tends to get jumbled.. lol.. sorry if i caused confusion.

No i think there was two stories, because sookie talked about it always being hot up there.. and in one of the latest books sookie gets a roomate and she stays up stairs. Only sookies room was on the lower level in the book.

I think you did And it happens, with 8 books, information gets a bit hazy...which is why I was wondering if I just forgot, lol. But yes, the only mentioning of people with tattoos that I recall is Godfrey and Chow.

I hated the V addiction, and we all know he's a man whore, but wow! In the show they make him into such a perv. It's like he can't go 1 day without having sex And while we all know he doesn't like vampires, I agree, I don't think he is the type to get involved with the Fellowship. He has a lot of issues, but it seems like in the novels he resolves himself with the supernatural world, where as in the show he doesn't seem to. Also, he found some common ground with Bill, in their love for Sookie, and I really don't think in the show they brought that out. I really don't like where they are taking his character, which originated in the novels as a fairly decent man, who was a little stupid, but had good intentions.
Exactly. Even Sookie thinks he's a bit dumb at times, but she always has more love for him than not, and she does say he's a good guy, despite his man-whoring

I mean, he is gullible and he lets Amy talk him into all this crap, but he does kind of redeem himself in the end, which makes it easier for me to accept the fact that he did the V in the first place. I'm just wondering why they want him to get involved with the Fellowship.. what purpose would he solve? Other than

remember in the novels, the maenad that attacks Sookie while going to visit Eric? Well, it looks like they are giving her and her pig a bigger part Though I am curious to see how this new storyline ties into Sam, in the novels he never knew her until Sookie mentions her. But, here I get the distinct impression he has met her in the past and is none to happy to see her again.
See, she was the ONLY one I could think of, but in the show she seemed too civilized for that connection But it WAS her face we saw on the road when Tara crashed....

and the fact that Sam seemed to know her also made me doubt who she was....

Another thing that I'm wondering about, and I may have forgotten from the books but I don't think so. Where are they going with the vampire Bill "made"? Who is she? She's not in the books, right? (since in the book Eric was the one who staked Long Shadow, and we don't really see what his 'punishment' for that is...) It seems like it can't just be a small part of the next season....

LMFAO!!! I thought that was rather... weird The way he grabs her and is all scary and pulls her.

                          I don't know either!

I am assuming he goes into the Fellowship and sees what they are really like and helps Sookie by giving her information about the vampire abductions. I do get the impression it will be in his branch of the Fellowship though, so I know he will have some larger purpose. I also know they are bringing in Godfrey's character, so I don't know how that will play with a Jason/Sookie scenario since it's Godfrey and Luna who ultimately save her in the novels.

See, she was the ONLY one I could think of, but in the show she seemed too civilized for that connection But it WAS her face we saw on the road when Tara crashed....
                          Spoiler:
and the fact that Sam seemed to know her also made me doubt who she was....
I am really curious as to why they are making her a main player in next season since she was only referenced to in the novels.
                          Spoiler:
Especially since her main goal in life is to incite madness in others. And I wonder if this will have any role with Fangtasia as it did in the novels? It seems likely not since she is set up closer to Bon Temps and Same, but who knows. But...that does bring up another question....maybe she will be the host of the 'parties' that Layfette was involved with? After all it does seem likely she would be involved in that sort of thing, at least going from what we learned in the books about Maenads

Bill never made a vampire in the novels. Which is why I was sort of surprised by that developement. I assume her part will be to wedge between Sookie and Bill, pushing her away from Bill and maybe towards Eric? Sookie made a bargain with him and Bill or not she will have to live up to it, so perhaps that will be a way of making the bond. Showing her that she can trust Eric, that he's not the evil vampire that she assumes he is. And yes, in the books it was Eric that stakes Long Shadow and we find out the 'punishment' for that act was to pay his maker off, not to turn anyone. And we don't even find out about Tribunals in the novels until about the 7th book.

Well, that would be a reason. And the way we see Lafayette get scared at something that's coming towards him, that might indicate that
                            Spoiler:
they'll make it out to be the Maenad who killed him? Or she made something come after him...
Another thing, about her being closer to Bon Temps than Shreveport, we see Sam getting out a whole bunch of cash at one point. Maybe that's where they're going with that?

Bill never made a vampire in the novels. Which is why I was sort of surprised by that developement. No, I didn't think he did. And it bugs me that they incorporated that in the show, but it's done so I guess we'll just see how it plays out. Also, I suppose it won't be too bad to be surprised from time to time
I must admit, I really like the way Sookie and Eric become gradually closer (closer might not be the word, but I don't know how to describe it) in the books - it's like even though Sookie is determined not to trust him, she does eventually. And she even admits that she likes him
                            Spoiler:
I wonder if they're making this girl the reason for Bill and Sookie to eventually be pushed apart, and not Lorena?
Though, that's thinking a bit far ahead, I guess

I'll tell you when the show really lost points with me. The one thing I couldn't deal with...the dirt sex.

Yeeahhhhhhhhh.... My thoughts exactly,.. LOL! When ever that started happening my boyfriend was like "ew ew ew!" ha ha ha! That was probably one of the worst sex scenes i have ever seen!

I was sad to see jason at the fellowship of the sun.. hell i was pretty mad when they made him a v-addict! I was glad they gave him a steady girlfriend, but didn't really like the whole kidnapping a vampire and what nots... that got weird i thought! Plus..
                              Spoiler:
I feel like if jason is at the fellowship of the sun then maybe he won't meet crystal and get her pregnant and become a shapeshifter... that would realllly erk me if they don't follow through with that

Yes i truly believe that the woman tara is staying with is the maenad. I just can't figure out why is getting a major part, OR why they are trying to make it look like she has a history with sam. And in the book she was pretty savage who lived in the woods and ran around naked ,.. not a rich woman helping out drunk strangers.. but as a few have you have said already it will be nice to be surprised and to see were the writers will take us next!

Is anyone else really,.. i mean abnomarlly excited about who they are going to cast for alcide and j.b.? Or even debbie? I can't wait to see the next season! Some much goes on! And i think the funest part is to see how someone else views the "goings on" in bon temps and compare it to how i pictured it in my mind!... im such a nerd...

But I agree with you. I'm not sure WHERE they're taking his character... I mean, technically thy can say the show is only based on the books, but they can add or take away anything they want... I just hope they won't change too much. I really like the fact that (book 4 onwards)
                                Spoiler:
                                Jason becomes a panther.
I don't see, judging from his personality on the show, how that will happen. But maybe he's only judgmental towards the vampires and won't mind the rest of the two natured? Who knows...

I'm really beginning to think reading the books might be worth my while. I've got the first one but I never made it very far in it. It's not overblown like most vampire romance novels from what I've seen. Should I give it a try, or just stick with the show for now?

Honestly? I am really glad i read all the books first. Even though i read them all over the last few years, but its exciting to kinda know whats going to happen and then get surprised when its a little different than in the book. Also it's exciting because the books were great and then your like "man i can't wait to see how they protray renee, or see how fruity lafayitte is in the show". lol. I would say if you don't mind already knowing some of what is going to happen and then being surprised by the show then yes read the books!

But if you want a cliffhanger at the end of every episode and not know what is going to happen from week to week then DONT read the books. Because the series stays very consistent i think, some books series is like a competely different story every book but just the same charcters where as it would be alright if you started reading book two because they don't interlink. BUT the sookie stackhouse series picks up where it leaves off, sometimes it feels like the next day or week even. Therefore i believe the show will be the same, with a cliffhanger at the end of every episode.

You were the one who siad you didn't like the cliffhangers right? So reading them might benefit you more. IMO of course!

I don't know though, they can still salvage that of his character. I still believe he isn't completely going to the dark side...he's just stupid and gullable. I think once he realizes exactly what the Fellowship is all about he will work against them. I still have to have faith we will get to see Jason redeem himself! Plus, (Book 4 spoiler)

                                        Spoiler:

But she was running around naked! I think she collects people that feed into what she is. And...oh! epiphany!!! What if she collects these people because they are more succeptable ( spelling?) to her particular kind of madness. (Book 2 Spoilers)

                                        Spoiler:

What if she is the one hosting these orgies, with the people living with her being the main participants. We already know Tara and Eggs are involved, so what if it just spreads from there? And maybe the Maenad has some sort of ties to the others that come...something we haven't seen yet. Maybe it's like her exclusive little coven of hornballs and perverts. She would be more the capable of telling who the people most willing would be. Anyways, just a theory.

I know, he was so much more likeable once that happened! At least I thought...well until he was underhanded and well...we know how that turned out! Anyways, in the novels he didn't really know what else was out there besides vampires....so I don't really think he could be too judgemental about meaning a shifter since he doesn't even know what they are! It was sort of a surprise to him. But once that happened he was fine towards all the supernatural beings it seemed.

Yes! The books are amazing! And addictive. I think Charlaine Harris definetly did the better job, but so far HBO has my thumbs up with the adaptations. I say if you have the book, give it a try. The first few chapters go a little slow until she gets more immersed in the vampire world, but it definitely picks up. Not to mention the books only get better from there!!
