  • Season 1 DVD Release

So I just picked up the DVD (which hit stores yesterday (19th)) and I gotta say... Amazing released.

I kinda wanna break it down and just sit in aww that they were able to give us such a great release. This is something all DVDs should try to live up too. I mean this isn't the GREATEST DVD ever released, but it is damn great for a 9 episode season which coulda just got a Veronica Mars season 1 release.

    Package:
We are given what I like to call a standard DVD case (which most DVD movies are released in, you know the one). Now I don't mind this as a release, it is clean and the box doesn't get trashed (looks at buffy releases...) but what I really like is it has a little slip cover to fit in with other boxsets. Much like Bionic Woman and Birds of Prey, which I really enjoy and would love more DVDs released in this similar format. The outer slip cover is a shiney metalic look. The cover features Sarah and John, while the back features the famous Cameron bust-shot.

    Special Features:
We get a slew of features here, which is a nice change from WBs. They put ALOT of effort into this, and it really shows. We get 3 commentaries (all which are very insightful.) We get actors in all of them and I love when actors pitch in, it gives SOOO much more to commentaries when you can reconize the voices.

The behind the features stuff is also great, look on how the episodes were built and how the series was put together. A great set and beats out other season 1 sets we've gotten (once again I bash veronica mars...)

    Discs Art:
This is a bit small, but... many may notice WB has a standard for their disc art. Smallville, Veronica Mars, Supernatural, Birds of Prey... Half a promo shot, the other half a generic texture/color and series logo. Here we get a new design of the character in some cool action shot on a silver-backdrop. Giving it a much more futureistic look (much of the box set is in this similar style)

Okay, enough loving this set. I am just glad we were given a REAL release and not a just a "push it out in time for season 2". So go buy the set. I got it for $25.00. You may pay up to $30.00, but I doubt you'll get higher then that.

I live in Australia and I just saw it released as well.

In Aus it's in a boxed DVD and the front cover is of Cameron with her human face but the rest of her body a robot. I'd never seen the picture before but it looked quite abstract and funky. That's all I really got to see of it, so it looks like there's some changes depending on what country you live in.

Oh and ours was selling for $55.00 so you got yours a lot cheaper!

That image is on the back of the box. Its very cool, but I am glad they didn't use it as the front of the box (since the series is so much more Sarah and John) though I guess using that Cameron shot would attract ALOT more people.

Nah not that one, though I'm guessing the one I'm talking about was done on the same day. The one I saw had Cameron's face but the back of her head was metal and so was her neck and it was more of a portrait so it only went to her shoulders.

That's a fantastic pic though, looks awesome.

I find it interesting that dvd over art varies from region to region. One might assume that they would be pretty similar given that the distributor is essentially the same.

Then again, it's also a peculiar thing that other things vary as well. Buffy, for instance, is in widescreen format overseas and yet we get the standard full screen here in the States. (Although I am aware that Joss has said it was intended to be in full frame so it's not as if we are getting a raw deal.) Still, these things are strange to me.

Oh! That is the inside of the DVD. The case is a clear plastic, and the is the background image the discs are sitting on. Its very cool, but I don't think it promotes the show very well.

Oh don't even get me started on different DVD covers for regions x.x look at Charmed! Half the time we use the same cover, and then the other half we get a crappy different cover. Its such was such a poor choice on Paramounts side.

Just got it at Best Buy for 18.74 (25% of all TV Shows!), so yeah, it's great.

It looks so great, and I just popped in the second disc to watch "Dungeons and Dragons" where I left of. Thanks for the lowdown, Travis. It sold me on buying the set
