  • Big Love

Big Love is a series that airs on HBO. It is based around a polygimist family, the Henrickson. It stars a few big names, or well known names I should say. Incluiding Bill Paxton and Amanda Seyfried.

It is a really good series, and I was so surprised that I enjoy it as much as I do. So far there are 2 seasons (both on DVD) and season 3 will begin in 2009 (due to the writers strike!)

To help soothe the sting of not having a new Big Love episode to watch until "early 2009," HBO is offering frustrated fans of the acclaimed series an olive branch. Or is it an o-Love branch?

Starting July 5, at 8 pm/ET, the cabler's HBO2 channel will present the first 24 episodes of Big Love, in order, with a new one arriving each Saturday night

I am just happy the series IS coming back, but I dunno how long Amanda Seyfried will stay on (she is kinda hitting it big) and they have really written her character to be able to leave for college at ANY moment. Even though I love her character, I could live with her leaving for awhile. (though that means less tina majorino...)

    Yay for threadage!

I would be SO upset if Amanda Seyfried left - she is one of the major reasons I watch the show...I absolutely love her character and find her whole experience with polygamy/actual mormon religion/sex/growing up incredibly interesting.

Plus, I'm completely convinced that there's all this femslashyness between her and tina majorino...there's the scene from the first season, when Sarah goes to a party and gets drunk on cough syrup and (I SWEAR this happened!) gets across-the-room hit on by another girl, and then collapses on the lawn and gets rescued by TM...aww, love. And the bit in the second season where her cousin/stepaunt/whatever she is (the 16 year old married to roman, what's her name??) blackmails TM for having feelings for sarah...

ok, enough blubbering about the femslash. (Though I do think it would be SO interesting to have a gay storyline in this type of family...no really, I'm stopping now). I've grown to really love all the characters (except bill paxton...he's mostly annoying...and sometimes ben pisses me off as well), and I'm intrigued by the new (potential?) wife introduced in the last season. The power dynamics between the spouses are SO interesting...and the way they've developed over the course of the series. I'm really looking forward to the 3rd season, to see where they go with all this stuff!

And minor note, but there are SO many VM alum in this series! Lilly, Mac, and Beaver too!

Oh "Eclipse", episode 4. A really good episode! And a really great moment between the characters. I would love to see more development on Heather's character and her homosexualtiy. It would be so interesting to see her try to deal with it with her parents.

I don't think Sarah would become a lesbian (she may, but I don't think her character is going that way) but I think she'd be more then accepting though it would be a bit odd between the two at first.

I think Alby (Elby? Nikki's brother) is gay. I don't think they confirmed it, but remember he picked up that dude and brought him into a hotel room and they were going to have sex! Then he started freaking out (I am 90% sure that was Big Love... though I could be wrong...) It would be interesting to delve into that a bit more too.

I also loved Ana, and was glad to see her in the season 2 finale. I was surprised to see her pop back up and she would make a great 4th wife. I really dislike Nikki. So anything to piss her off!

Oh and that little girl. Roman's wife (damn what is her name!) She is creepy and is causing so much trouble...

And yeah, it is so a Neptune High reunion! We need Kristen Bell to pop on up!

one more note i will make... i am sick of seeing bill paxton's white ass butt...

OMG seriously! no more naked bill paxton!! Though season two was generally better for that...why do HBO/showtime shows feel this need to start out with a ton of gratuitous sex?

Yeah, Alby does seem to be gay, and that could be a very interesting storyline. But it's pretty set in stone how Roman would react...I'd love to see Bill/Barb/Nikki's reaction to one of their children.

Ok, I just spent twenty minutes searching for any way to get a picture of this girl who gives Sarah the eye...you have the dvds, right? Go and watch it for me? please? Or...pretend I made my point...which is that Sarah has her slashy moments too...

Anyway, I agree that Heather is definitely gayer. But...come on...that horrible boyfriend of Sarahs? (Do NOT like him...he's how old again?)

I used to find Nikki annoying but I've really grown to love her. I'll be interested to see what happens with Ana...because I think Margene thinks she's getting an automatic ally...but what's she going to do when she's no longer the young/sexy wife?

Ahaha I have totaly like almost rewatched the entire first season, and do you mean the gothy girl who gives Sarah the eye? Cause... MAYBE I see what you mean, but I think it was more of a "whos the blonde chic?" eye then a "hey sexy" eye. But I could be wrong when it comes to the eyes...

It would be interesting to see Alby confront Nikki for shelter if Roman kicked him out... Cause they had a great scene when he comes over to the house and is staying outside the windy when Tiny turns on the lights. FREAKY SHIT!!!!

Well Margene would still be the "young" and "sexy" wife, she just wouldn't be shiney and new ^_^

I think HBO just has to prove that they can do nudity, which is why we get it in the most odd scenes that don't really need it...

Yes! That is exactly who I mean.

Now I dunno, I do tend to see femslash where I want to, but...actually, I wasn't seeing femslash at that point - it was too early. Or, if I was seeing it, it was so low grade. But that part I totally thought was that girl checking sarah out! But to be fair, I haven't seen that scene in forever...gosh I wish I could find a video of it to see if my memory is correct...

That is so true. Plus, they have this really bizarre brother sister relationship...like the whole thing where Nikki stole the money, and the way Alby tried to use her as an ally against bill...

You know who I find really interesting is Nikki's mom...great actress.

Well Margene would still be the "young" and "sexy" wife, she just wouldn't be shiney and new ^_^

True story re margene, but I guess I meant...Bill seems most sexually into Ana (anna?), and til now he's seemed most sexually into margene...

It is really truly insane when you think about how old Margene is - gosh she's ridiculously young - younger than me!

I like how all the wives motivations for being in the marriage are different - like Margene's has nothing to do with religious beliefs, she just wants to have family. And Barb just wants to hold on to Bill...and Nikki wants power and prestige...and attention and acceptance...and her father to be proud of her...god that girl has some daddy issues!

I think the episode where I really started to love Nikki was the one with the private school for one of her sons...the way she tried to fit in with the other mothers...aww, it just broke my heart.

I'm also a fan of the Sarah/Heather interactions - right from the beginning I thought that was the angle they were going, but so far it hasn't come to fruition yet.

I really like Ana, but the whole situation makes me feel so bad for Barb. I really like her character and feel like she's in a situation she didn't want that will go completely out of control if Ana comes on board as fourth wife. I would love for her character to leave the family if that happens, and see how they function without her and see her get a better sense of herself. I really enjoyed the storyline where Barb/Bill were having an "affair" (meeting in hotel rooms in the middle of the day to have sex when it wasn't Barb's day, etc), and was really gunning for her to possibly split from the family last season.

Roman's intended youngest wife was Rhonda Vollmer, played by Daveigh Chase. I really never am sure whether to feel sorry for Rhonda or want to strap her down and exorcise her. Right up until she maneuvered herself into Heather's family, I completely assumed she was going to angle to be Bill's 4th, and that's why she was constantly trying to get back to the Henrickson's Homes Plus (pace TWOP).

It would be totally in character for Sarah to basically vanish all at once because of her complete disdain for their polygamy. I loved how she basically shoved a knife right into Bill while they were dancing as she, completely lovingly, asked if he understood that nothing he says matters to her anymore, or something to that effect. The only reason I think Sarah even sticks around *now* is for Teeny and Ben, especially Ben to see if he can be led out of the Principle. Her boyfriend was 28, but they broke up after the sex, didn't they?

Harry Dean Stanton should win an Emmy for his work on the show. It's amazing that by the end of Season 2, I was actually rooting (?) for Roman (??) to come rain "prophet" like wrath on Alby at Juniper Creek.

Yeah I was following on twop for awhile...I can see that point. I think Rhonda is just constantly working every possible angle...she's so creepy, one of the creepiest characters I've ever seen on tv.

You're right that Sarah could leave any time I think, but I just want her to stay selfishly! Plus I think if they do go the femslash route with her and heather that could provide some seriously awesome family drama at the henricksons.

Don't think they broke up though...did they? Thought they just had of the sex...blegh, do not like that guy.

Well it is pretty easy to route against alby...that one manipulating wife of his was really interesting, I hope they bring her back. She looked very familiar...is she the same person as the bitchy contestant from S4 of house?

Wow, I was about to say no, but *yes*, Laura Grant, Alby's firstwife, is played by the beautiful and talented Anne Dudek, most recently known to audiences as Cutthroat Bitch Amber Volakis on TV's "House".

She is just... painfully underused, then, because she is AWESOME.

I can't really comment on your hopes for slashtext because, well, I don't see it. Heather is by far the most buttoned-down LDS character on the show, and even if she had any such yearnings, they would have been so utterly pummeled under by her sense of piety for it to even be in character to bring them up.

I *thought* her boyfriend suddenly became Joe Distance after they slept together, but I haven't seen the episodes for a while, and HBO is too ridiculously overpriced for DVDs for me to own the series.

that's me, awesome with names and faces...not! Random I can't believe I made that connection.

Aww, you never see my slashy subtext!!! But no, I do see why people don't see it...basically, because I think it's done so subtly. I mean, we have the one episode in the first season, and then the Rhonda blackmailing Heather, and there's this one other scene where Heather looks all jealous and upset over sarah going out with scott that's (obv) from some point in s2 but I can't remember when...basically, my point is it's all incredibly spread out and left to percolate in the audience's mind without being blaringly obvious.

Hmm, I'm getting all into the pairing again now...I might have to write some fanfic, now I know people on the forum watch!

I really don't remember at ALL re the boyfriend...I thought the last time we saw him was the sex, but I could be making that up completely...I haven't seen the finale since it aired, and that was what, more than a year ago right? I'm really looking forward to getting the 1st season dvds so we can watch them from the start!

I'm almost certain the last we saw of Sarah/boyfriend (what was his name, anyway?) was them having sex. I don't remember anything between them after that.

Roman's intended youngest wife was Rhonda Vollmer, played by Daveigh Chase. I really never am sure whether to feel sorry for Rhonda or want to strap her down and exorcise her. I never liked her character - I never felt pity for her and just wanted her to go away. I understand her upbringing, and perhaps the audience is supposed to feel pity for her, but I just wanted to slap her. I never got the vibe that she was angling to be Bill's 4th, but that concept just creeps me out even more.

Back to talking about the sex scenes in the series - the one I always remember most was when either Nikki or Barb didn't want to have sex on her night, so Bill went right on over to Margene's and had sex with her. I just remember him pushing her up against the living room window, and Nikki watching - that was hot. And then the next morning, when Barb confronted Margene over Bill going to her house, she said something like "And was he supposed to be there?" Because it's the wife's responsibility to point his erections in the right wife's direction.

I think it's a pretty cool show... my mom and I used to watch it (we haven't in forever) but I liked it. I like Ginnifer Goodwin's character.. she's really cute and really naive haha. I also love Chloe Sevnigy haha.

It really is such an interesting show, especially since what all has been in the news sorta lately...

Hee! Yeah I really like all the wifely politics that go on...it was really interesting to see Barb's journey in the second season, the way she finally seemed to realize what she'd let happen, the fact that she was a polygamist and that this was her family unless she changed something...

Basically, the show's a lot better when Bill's not on the screen! I did think that season 2 was better than season 1...I actually only got into it in season 2 (I'd watched the first maybe 6 episodes of sesason 1, but hadn't really liked it that much, then watched the first episode of s2, and went right back and watched the whole of season 1!).

I don't think that episode in season 1 was uber slashy. "Eclipse" I mean, when Sarah is all sick and resting in Heather's lap (if that is what you are talking about) I just totaly think its a friend thing.

I don't think Heather would come out, I don't think she can. Just the way she was raised, I think she would push the feelings away (and that would be interested to see happen) but I just don't see any other slashy, and I don't think Sarah would go for it. yes it would be interesting, but kinda soo outta character that - well, it would just feel forced and like "great..."

You might be right about Heather but I have this sneaking suspicion that the writers want to do a gay mormon story...because the creators are gay and one (or both? can't remember) of them grew up mormon. So...it would be SUCH an interesting story, there's not that much out there in terms of fictional gay mormons...one incredibly cheesey gay movie with a nice punny title I can't remember...
