  • Season Finale - Spoilers of Course

Wow, I'm really surprised that there wasn't a thread for this all ready....

So, what did you all think of the finale????

I for one am glad that they ended this season on an upswing...that is to say that for once it wasn't all doom and gloom at the end of a season...

First.....Izzie & Alex!!!!!!!! Too sad and sweet....I am so hoping that this will open up their relationship again for next season.

Derek & Meredith....."I got all healed and whole and you didn't show up"... Classic. I hope they have a good season together next year....they deserve some happiness....I'd love to see some light-heartedness with Meredith next season and not so much with the dire. It could be cute to watch her plan a wedding and build a house and such.

Sloane.....is just such a perfect doll. And such a pig.

George gets to retest, so that's good....I was so bummed for him that he only missed out by one point, and I'm glad the chief gave him a second chance.

Bailey's Star Wars recap was priceless! But her line to Erica and Callie about 'go do what you do' was too funny!

Can't stand the Hahn/Callie crap. Give me a break, what now slutty Callie is gay? Please.

Oh, and Lexi's clepto tendencies had me in stitches, btw.....

Agreed. That was a nice change of pace for GA.

First.....Izzie & Alex!!!!!!!! Too sad and sweet....I am so hoping that this will open up their relationship again for next season.
Sobbing Alex broke my heart! The way he was pleading with Izzie, that was just so sad and made me tear up a bit.

Yes I really hope that we have seen the last of dark and twisted Meredith for a while and that she and Derek can actually be happy for a little while.

I was also glad that Cristina got her groove back. I hated seeing her so down in the last few eps so I'm glad that Meredith gave her the sparkle pager. Cristina yelling at Hahn in the OR was awesome, as was the Chief telling Hahn that she needs to be a better teacher. I also liked that Cristina took that lesson to heart as well and finally began to really teach Lexie.

Can't stand the Hahn/Callie crap. Give me a break, what now slutty Callie is gay? Please.
So Callie is slutty because she enjoys casual sex? Ok whatever! Can I just point out that it wasn't Callie who cheated in her marriage with George? After all she has been through, Callied deserved to have some fun with McSteamy.

I actually thought Callie admitting her feelings for Hahn and kissing her was a logical conclusion in the context of the episode. After all, she was telling that friend of the boy in the cement all day to stand up for herself and her feelings and screw what others think. It would have made Callie a huge hypocrite if she hadn't applied the same thing to her own life so I'm glad she plucked up the courage and kissed Erica, even if it was with a little push from McSteamy. Besides, everybody is sleeping with each other at Seattle Grace anyway, that's like a basic feature of the show.

Shonda has said in an interview prior to the finale that there would be an OMFG kiss in the finale, something that would be very surprising for the audience. Now I'm unsure which kiss she was talking about. We have seen several kisses in the finale but I found none of them particularly surprising. *shrugs* If she was talking about the Callie/Erica kiss, we have seen them kissing before, so that was not so surprising. Or did she mean the George/Lexie kiss? But that was not even a real kiss. Maybe Shonda shouldn't be promising such things, my expectations were definitely way too high because of that interview.

Well, I was glad they finally did some character exploration with Alex. It's about time! Geez.

Callie/Hahn feels very forced to me. As if the writers wanted to have a gay pairing on the show and just pushed two characters together. I'm not against same sex couplings but it just felt forced, is all.

I've been over Meredith since the inception of the series. I just don't care for her much.

I loved Bailey in the ep. Every scene with her was great.

Loved Cristina finally telling Hahn to back off. It's about time for that!

And Bailey giving the clinic to Izzie? Awesome. Plus her little pep talk speech to her as she handed them to her....so sweet.

No one really talks about Richard, it seems, but I also just wanted to say that I liked him a lot this ep as well.

And Mer and Der being "pimps" for their patients? Ahhhh.... That felt like the right thing to do. Before they died, to be able to experience each other.

So, I also think it was a good ender to an iffy season. I'm glad they went out closer to the top instead of just boring me.

I know! It was such a switch to see him so vulnerable....how could Izzie say no? But then, sleeping with him in that condition really isn't the best thing for either of them, but I still hope they did....

        I

Ugh! How could I forget Christina?!? She's my favorite! I was soooooo glad she finally told Hahn to shut up....if it would have been me, I think I would have added a few more choice words, but whatever...

I did love how the chief stood up for her....I don't think he realized she was in ear shot when he said it until afterwards, though, because it is a bit unprofessional to critique an employee in front of their subordinate. But I was so glad that she got a dressing down...she deserved it, the bitch. (I really hate Hahn incase anyone hadn't noticed.... )

I loved the Christina/Lexi scene as well. I'm glad she kept up with the typical Christina with the headphones and the 'whatever'

I had to laugh at the sparkle pager scene though....Meredith giving Christina different options, then saying something to the effect of 'making fun of me and calling me names' or whatever, and Christina pausing to think about it... I so love her!

So Callie is slutty because she enjoys casual sex? Ok whatever!
no, well yes, they're all sluts....but aren't we all? I just mean that she was so into the 'penis' of the sex, and now she's what? flipped a switch?

I just get tired of shows forcing homosexuality where it wasn't really fitting. Like the Tara/Willow ship on Buffy seemed totally in sync. But the Willow/Kennedy was just so....not. It's the same with this Callie/Hahn thing. I do not buy that Callie is some closet lesbian. To try and sell that is a cop-out. Do I think that she might want to try a alternative sexual fling....sure, but I just hope they don't try to make it out that she was....well, 'born gay' because that's just not true in this situation....

well, I figured out that context too, but my issue was just that Callie's not gay....she might be just liking the idea of a tryst or whatever, which I guess is a valid lifestyle choice...but like I said, I just don't want this to turn into another 'penises banned' feminist lesbian thing, because frankly I don't think that would be fair to Callie's character. Plus a bi-sexual tending character is more fitting with the show's mantra: we're all whores...

Which reminded me...I loved Meredith's line a couple of episodes ago when Callie asked her and Christina if anybody ever thought they were gay and she answered..."No, because we screw boys like whores on tequilla"

Well, that's what you get for reading spoilers....

No, seriously, I don't get the big shocker either....they were building up to the Callie/Hahn thing for a few weeks, so no real shock there. Honestly, I could see all of the night's kisses coming, so not getting the 'shock' either.

Yeah I guess it wasn't the best idea but I could totally understand Alex, he wanted to feel anything besides the pain, take comfort in Izzie. I'm just glad that Alex and Izzie finally got close to each other again, I have always liked them as a couple!

I had to laugh at the sparkle pager scene though....Meredith giving Christina different options, then saying something to the effect of 'making fun of me and calling me names' or whatever, and Christina pausing to think about it... I so love her!
Yeah Cristina is prizeless! I love her as well! Also, when Meredith is in a scene with Cristina she usually does not annoy me so I always enjoy their friendship scenes.

Well I don't think that they are gonna make Callie 100% gay now because, as you said, that would not really make that much sense. In one scene she has sex with McSteamy and clearly enjoys it and in the next, she doesn't like men anymore? If they go down this route, that would really suck. Why not have a bi-sexual character on the show? I mean, Callie is at a certain age, if she was truly gay, I guess she would have figured it out by now. But having a gay tryst but not giving men up completely, yeah I can see that happening. I don't think that Callie will want to turn her back on men forever anyway.

Well, that's what you get for reading spoilers....
          Yeah I guess.

No, seriously, I don't get the big shocker either....they were building up to the Callie/Hahn thing for a few weeks, so no real shock there. Honestly, I could see all of the night's kisses coming, so not getting the 'shock' either.
Glad you see it this way as well.

Just a cut and paste of what I wrote in my lj... sorry for laziness

Season three and much of four was disappointing in many ways. I always found a big strength of the show the 'it's about the ring' theme that they had going on. I liked that much as I shipped MerDer, the loyalties to Addison were not ignored, and for trying to make the marriage work, both characters Derek and Addison were commendable.

That George slept with Izzy while married was horrible, and made me so angry and really stop believing in the direction and ethos of the show. It took longer than I would have thought to end that, but luckily they did.

And what makes me happier than I would have expected is the Alex/Izzie potential I see building- whether or not they slept together is irrelevant, but the fact that Rebecca/Ava wanted Alex to have someone strong and reliable in his life, and really, Izzy is that person for him, she has never not been there for him. Makes me happy, ridiculously so!

As for the MerDer thing- we've had so many false alarms, but that last scene- I clapped. I actually clapped. And truly, again, going to break things off with Rose- we're back to the idea of Derek we were first introduced to- a man who makes mistakes but a man who wants to be a man, not a boy.

Callie/Erica? Well, I'm not convinced it's not girl on girl for girl on girl's sake, but I'm not sure whether or not that bugs me- I like girl on girl at times, y'know, so... seems okay to me. And I think Callie relies on Mark to fill a void, but she doesn't take him seriously, so it would be nice to see her in something where she has a connection with someone- I know she loved George, but I think they never really connected which is why it was all to easy for him to sleep with someone else, whereas Callie and Erica have a something even if it's not more than short lived.

George/Lexie? Not sure about that- I'm happy for Lexie if she's happy (I like her!) but George is a little too easily led into situations including relationships, so... I'd be happy for that to be given a little more time. No need for every person to be getting some at all times.

Cristina? About bloody time that she came down from her high horse of angst and just took her rightful place- in the OR, as a resident.

So that's just about most of it, enough for the moment, I think... I'm looking forward to season five, if I had any wish it would be an occasional mention of either Denny or Izzy's daughter, or both, because I think Izzy's character would benefit from being taken seriously more often.

yeah, that's one aspect I'd like to see change next season. I used to really love Izzy's character, but this season she was just so obnoxious, and well, they portrayed her as a ditzy blonde too much, which is insulting as she is a doctor. I hope we see some more seriousness, not depressing mind you (the Denny stuff comes to mind) but just, what's the word, more grown up, I guess.

I loved the whole house out of candles! It was brilliant and I loved the fact that the first think Derek asked for was "Where is our bedroom"

This episode I think was really powerful especially between Alex and Izzie, and the sad part again is that we find out another part of Alex's hard childhood.

Loved it, and I am so glad they didn't leave us on cliffhanger!

And more surgeries. It's exciting that she got the clinic, but it makes me flash back to the (flash back) scene where Alex is surprised she's in the surgery group. And also to when she was skulking around pretending to not care (after Denny's death) and saw Cristina do a whipstitch (tell me that's a real name? ) and was all "I wanna do a whipstitch!". So I'd like to see her in the clinic a bit less, and in surgery being all "rockstar, I sawed a guy's brain open!" Coz when she's like that, I love it. Not that she has to win all the time, but that the writer's recognise that she can win. IMO the 'rockstar' moment is one of the best Izzy moments.

Welcome PoutyLips, and yeah, I that moment too- the connection between Meredith and Derek is very physical, and it's hilarious that he's curious about the bedroom most of all.

Yes. I guess the thread title is ambiguous but yes. We are talking about the s4 finale which aired about a week ago.

Just to clear up a question that has been bugging me. Source: Michael Ausiello

Question: Now that the Grey's finale has aired, can you tell us which kiss was the "major" one that Shonda Rhimes was talking about? — Brad

Ausiello: Based on her morning-after post-mortem, I think she was referring to Mer/Der's big smooch. Personally, the Alex/Izzie kiss was the only one that made me lean into the TV.
I agree with Ausiello, I thought the Alex/Izzie kiss was much more special and intense than the Mer/Der kiss. *shrug*

Yeah, that was bugging me too.

This is probably why Shonda doesn't like to talk about upcoming stuff. She clearly doesn't understand how the spoiler world works. If you say there is going to be a major, crazy kiss coming up, then all the fans are gonna start freaking out wondering what it is and getting their hopes up. And then after the ep airs, we're all left wondering...what was she talking about?

I thought it was the Callie/Erica one hehe. It was in competition with Izzie/Alex amazing kiss though. I gave up on MerDer a long time ago, these two are the most boring couple on television

I really liked the season finale and the post-strike episodes, the show benefits from the break. It was optimistic and for once, I really saw some character shine (George for instance). Alex is the one that get the most out of this two hours episode to me. The actor was great and I was moved by the Rebecca story.

Good for a new season !

The Cristina story was a shame, by the way. It was wrapped as if they had strictly no idea how to go further. A Shiny bipper over the love that depressed her for month? Come on...be smarter at some point...
