  • The Office (US Version)

    Hey

I thought I'd start a thread for 'The Office' seeing that it's one of my most beloved shows ever! I tried watching the UK version, and usually I love brit comedy, but I actually found it pretty dull and bad. The US version completely changes that, it's so funny, so clever and the characters are so loveable that you really do begin to care about them.

Pim/Jam are just wonderful and they are the closest I've ever got to shipping a fictional couple, they're just amazing. I can relate to their scenes so much, sometimes it feels as if someone has watched my life and scripted it, I can identify with their feelings and actions just so much.

Dwight is my favourite character and is just hillarious, I love his manner of speaking, love his little quirks and background. He's a wonderful character, I've just bought a Dwight poster for my room from the NBC store, so I looked very foward to that

This series has really captured my attention, I adore it. Buffy will always come out on top but The Office is on par with Angel for me, without a doubt.

So any more office fans out there? What characters do you like or hate? What's your favourite season? Are you enjoying season 4?

Oh and I just love Jenna Fischer.. I have a very big crush on her

I adore The Office. I've never tried watching the UK version, sadly, but it's my goal to do so one of these days.

I love Jim and Pam. I'm not sure how far people outside of the U.S. have seen, so there's spoilers for "Chair Model" here:
    Spoiler:
Jim's faux proposal! OMG squeee!!!1!! Ahem.

I can't stand Michael. I find him funny sometimes, but for the most part, I just hate his ignorance and stupidity. He's just not endearing to me at all, and so in episodes like "Christmas Party", when he insults Phyllis's gift, I just get angry at him instead of laughing at him.

I really like Toby, though. He's my favorite non-credit character. I feel so bad for him all the time. I do think that Michael's irrational hatred of Toby is amusing, but that just makes me feel bad for poor Toby. "Night Out" Spoilers:
    Spoiler:
And I felt so bad for him with the awkward Pam hand-on-leg thing! I don't want Jim and Pam to break up, but since I know they won't (or if they do, Toby will have nothing to do with it) I just feel bad for Toby.

Honestly, I'm kind of 'meh' on Season Four. I'm afraid that they're getting too popular, and the quality's declining. I think they're going for the more obvious jokes recently, instead of the subtle ones. My favorite season is Season Two.
The story's kinda bland. It's about this guy named Dumbledore Calrissian who needs to return the ring back to Mordor.

It is easy to hate him sometimes. In particular during that episode, I felt very sorry for Phyllis. I don't mind as much if he's just ignorant and stupid, but when he's just plain mean then I agree he's pretty hard to stomach.

But he redeems himself a lot in some episodes. In particular when he comes to Pam's art show and tells her how proud he is of her. I just love him in that scene, I felt so bad for Pam and just adored he turned up and told her exactly what she needed to hear.

My favorite season is Season Two.
I've heard a lot of people say that. Personally my favourite is Season Three, I think it's the funniest.

Toby fan huh? Did you hear the news about the season finale?

      Spoiler:
      Toby leaves

And I had no idea they were creating an Office spin-off set in LA either? They won't say who will be the main character, only that it won't be Dwight, Michael, Jim or Pam.

        Yes!!
        Spoiler:
When he said the line in "Night Out" about moving to Costa Rica, I thought it was just a joke. Then I found out that the last episode is called "Goodbye Toby" (or something to that effect) and I was shocked. But I haven't read any casting spoilers, and I'm trying really hard not to read any other spoilers, so for now, I'm holding on to the hope that Toby decides to stay at Scranton in the end.

Yeah, I read about this, but the details were pretty vague; I don't know if there's more in-depth info out there somewhere. I heard that NBC asked for a spin-off, and they don't really have an idea for the show yet. I don't know much about how that works, but to me it seems like it should be the other way around-- have an idea, then create a spin-off. This just sounds like they're trying to make as much money as they can off of The Office, and that doesn't give me high hopes for the quality of whatever show it'll be.
        Spoiler:
But with Toby possibly-but-hopefully-not leaving, I guess he would make the most sense for the spin-off character, but I really can't see him leading a show.

          I love this show!

Angela is my most favorite character on this show, for some reason, with Dwight a close second. They're the couple I love to ship the most too. There's something about them that is very attractive and it's not just the mismatch (although to be fair, they are perfect for each other in many ways). Jam is endearing but a little too blah for my shipping taste.

What I'm happiest about is how well the show has been doing after the strike. Aside from the latest episode, the show has gotten record-breaking numbers in terms of both total viewers and demo points in the last 2-3 weeks. I'm really glad that it's doing this well and am not at all surprised that NBC has asked for a spin-off. I can't imagine who they'd pick to lead a whole new show when they have decided not to have any of the main characters leave the show. They're probably going to have someone new, I suppose.

I agree with you completely. This is one of my most favorite scenes from the show. As annoying as Michael can get (which is quite often), it is these little things he does that shows that he really does care for his people and that makes it a little difficult for me to hate him. I also love how Jam directly confronts everyone about this during the camping trip. Andy floating on the water was hilarious! I absolutely loved how Angela didn't help him out deliberately.
