are there any other guys besides me here who watch this show or am I the only one?

  • #2
Trust me, you're not the only one!!!

I am watching it at the moment, I have just finished season four. This is my first time of watching the whole thing from beginning to end, I caught from about mid season four to mid season five on TV, so I'm in familiar territory now, but there's still a lot which I missed even in this part.

I do love this show, I find the relationship between Lorelai and Rory awesome, plus Luke, and Emily and Richard. What I am less keen on is the caricaturisation of some of the characters, such as Taylor and Kirk- yes, it's hilarious, but it kind of bugs me that I find them more one dimensional than half the characters that play demons in Buffy and Angel, shows that are supposed to be fantasy.

I think he actually meant, "are there any other males".

There are a few on the board if I am not mistaken. There are actually a few guys around here to watch/have watched series that are definitely more geared to the chick crowd, like The OC or Gossip Girl.

Most guys I know say it's for the 'hot chicks' in the case of The OC... they can keep telling themselves that

              True that.

But I can see an appeal for Gilmore Girls for a male audience. The dialogue is really quick, snappy and clever and the characters are quirky and strange. It definitely veers more toward a female audience, certainly, but I think there is a wider audience base than it appears from a face value standpoint. I mean, the title doesn't help either.

I despise The OC and Gossip Girl with a fiery passion.

Gilmore Girls, on the other hand, I ADORE. My sister went crazy with it and I saw her watching a few episodes of it. I got a few good laughs from the scenes I saw. She owns s2-7, so I thought I'd check it out. I'm doing a series run (-s1) and I just finished s3 as well. While I have seen later episodes and the series finale so I know what's going to happen, most of the episodes I have never seen and I am just LOVING them. My favorites so far are all from Season 3, which appealed to me much more than Season 2. They are "Dear Emily and Richard", "Say Goodnight, Gracie", and "Those Are Strings, Pinocchio". My favorite is probably the Season 3 finale, TASP, because I loved everything in it. Little cameos by some awesome characters (Brad), the start of the Dragonfly, hints at Luke/Lorleil (even though I think they'll be terrible together), and some lol moments. Also, Rory's graduation speech is so awesome. Or maybe DER, because I loved the flashbacks and the intertwining between them and real life. Honestly, I didn't think they could pull it off. And, I LOVE Chris/Lorleil, so that was another great one.

You like Season 3 that much? i'm more of a fan of one and two over season 3 just because i'm more of a Dean fan then Jess ^^ I personally typecasted Milo as peter from Heroes not Jess he seems out of place LOL

My favorite episodes so far are from season one. The Golf episode I think it was episode 3 or 4. I also liked how Dean put up a fight for Rory in episode 9 the first dance eppy =)

Oh, I love this show (only seen up to s5 though). I think I liked Dean in s1 but I think he just got kinda dull and annoying in s2 and 3. I think that's why I prefer Logan, he was an interesting character and mixed things up a little bit. My favourite season so far has been, um I dunno maybe 2 or 5, I'm not sure, but I like them all.

Oh I don't like Logan at all...I don't think he is good for Rory at all. She should have stuck with Dean.

I never much liked Dean. Actually he was okay that first season but after that I found him far too whiny and insecure.

Logan rubbed me the wrong way at first but I warmed up to him over time. When all is said and done, he had a good heart and did love Rory. That much was clear tome.

I liked Dean in the early seasons, like you said, but in Season 5, I wanted to slaughter him! Slaughter him

Logan is my favorite of the boyfriends. Jess is great, but not with Rory. They have too many problems. Logan, like you said, really loves Rory and I love the way he talks. Also, I just finished watching "Friday Night's Alright For Fighting" (which I , btw) and he was awesome with the saving the news *nods*

I'm in the middle of watching this show for the first time and am up to the 4th episode of season 5. it. Possibly more than Buffy even.

I liked Dean in season 1, he was sweet with Rory. Jess has always annoyed me so I wasn't all that happy when they were together, he's way too screwed up for her. I literally just had my first glimpse of Logan in the last episode I watched so I can't comment on him as a boyfriend - he's unimpressive so far but I have a feeling that will change from what other people are saying about him.

For the people who've seen all of the show, is it true after the creator left it went downhill? How does season 7 stack up against the rest?

Every season is god. Some are just better than others. I happen to quite enjoy season seven but I certainly prefer others over it. Some fans can see a difference in the quality or direction of the show after the Palladinos left; I don't think it's quite as obvious though. All the fast witty banter is still in the mix and all the good, funny, quirky and poignant moments are still there. SO yeah...I think they are all good. Personally, I think I like the middle of the series best. But I haven't watched the bulk of it in such a long time. I really liked 5 and 6 and I recall liking 3 quite a lot too.

Agreed! I'm watching it for the first time by stealing my sisters DVD, but she has all of 'em except Season 1, so I haven't seen Season 1 yet. I'm on "I'm OK, You're OK" (6.17) right now, and I'm loving it. IMO, Season 2 and 6 have been the worst since there have been more iffy episodes, but they're still great. My favorite season is Season 5 because it's so amazing! My favorites are "Wedding Bell Blues" and then "Say Something", because they're beautifully done, heartbreaking, and hilarious! "I have no idea what she's ever saying, but she's so amusing! Like a chimp! Isn't she like a chimp, Gypsy!?"

Season 1 has a lot of charm, you should try and see it sometime. It's got a lot of 'classics' imo.

Right now after watching seasons 1-4 I would say 4 is my favorite. Oh, the drama! And the tension! Richard and Emily, Luke and Lorelai (who I thought would be kinda weird together until those last eps), Dean and Rory, the return of a new and improved Jess. Good stuff.

Emily is a fantastic character! She has a very cold front but oh, the warmth that lies beneath! I often find some of my favorite scenes or episodes are the ones that feature her (and Richard by extension). The dialogue is so wonderful for all the characters but there is something about the way Kelly Bishop plays Emily and the way she delivers her lines. She has a wonderful nuance in her performance; you can actually witness all the layers of Emily. That is definitely the mark of a brilliant actor!

Agreed! Kelly Bishop and Lauren Graham are fantastic and mind-blowing.

                                      Just look at this scene.

Great stuff, but my favorite scene of Emily at the moment is the scene in "The Prodigal Daughter Returns" when she tries to buy a plane. Her breakdown is amazing. I won't spoil anything for you, Shiny, but it's awesome.

Good scene. Emily is a great character, I agree. On a completely unrelated note, Lorelai and Max was just odd, anyone else think so? They had absolutely nothing in common.

Looking forward to that episode (and many others, I've heard more than once that season 5 is great) Blasterboy. I'll be disappointed when I've seen every one. It's tradition for me to watch one episode before bedtime now.
