  • Who and Torchwood spoilers and speculation

Thought I'd put both shows in the title just in case...

I just saw a clip of next week's ep. Watch it here...

A clip of the series three epiosde Utopia where Captain Jack returns.

Personally I found Jack's "Doctoooorrrrrrr!" rather hammy and ridiculous. And the Doctor? Boy, denial ain't just a river in Egypt. Seems he won't be tackling his Jack issues head on in the slightest. I'm hoping that this will give Martha an opportunity to call him on his bullshit.

As for later in the season...what are people's theories about Saxon/the master/the face of Boe's talk about the Doctor not being alone? What about Captain Jack and his eternal life...how do you think that will play out?

As jack's back it would make sense that the doc needs the hand or jack's unkillable body for something. How he knows jack is about and has the hand is another point but i'm guessing the character called the professor, who is due to crop up next week could have something to do with it. Especially due to the rumours flying about that the professor is a timelord (timelordy name dontcha think) and that he could very well regenerate towards the end of the ep.

As we've gone through the daleks and the cybermen surely mr saxon or the professor have to have something to do with the master. I have no proof to offer for this other than two big name actors being picked to play these parts (johns simm and derek jacobi respectively). Has to be, surely?

Incidentally, someone told me there's an LJ community devoted to the hand. YUK.

... or jack's unkillable body for something.
Mmm, I can think of a few things he could use that body for.

Getting back in my box now..

Someone mooted that the Professor regenerates into the master, as played by John Simm....but since Mr Saxon is already knocking about, that seems a bit far fetched to me. They could be in cahoots though. Unless....hmm...if they're meeting the prof in the future, then I suppose he could become Saxon and travel back in time?

That's the tricky thing about predicting plots on this show...almost literally anything is possible!

I think so, yeah...and would be quite disappointed if it wasn't. I reckon RTD would do the Master better than the daleks etc, cos he's more into the human emotion thing.

I'm really looking forward to DJ. He was wonderful as I Claudius. Now, getting to see him with the D...d...doctor is a d...d...dream

This is a bit off topic, but, you know those lolcats things? Pictures of cats with silly internet-speak slogans on them? There are some cracking Who ones out there...

I went a bit overboard but I hope you enjoy them. There's 28 images. They're mostly of the 10th doctor, but there's one of the 4th and a couple of Rose, with some Cybermen and Daleks thrown in there. 90648 helped me with some captions. :)

Though I don't watch the show, I thought you guys would be glad to know this -

        Spoiler:
James Marsters will be appearing as a guest star alongside leading actor John Barrowman in the BBC's adult spin-off of long-running television series Doctor Who.

Torchwood - an anagram of Doctor Who - is a secret task force that deals with alien encounters. John Barrowman plays mysterious multi-sexual time agent Captain Jack Harkness, who leads the Cardiff-based team. Series creator Russell T Davies, winner of the 2006 BAFTA Dennis Potter Award for Outstanding Writing for Television, has also written Casanova, Dr Who and Queer As Folk.

The episode will be broadcast in the UK by the BBC early next year.

        SOURCE: James' newsletter.

Good to know a Buffyverse alum is going to be on (what I've heard) is a great show.

Hmm. Interesting. As I understand it, Torchwood is being completely overhauled for the second series - a much needed overhaul, it has to be said! The storytelling really was substandard in the first series, although it had some good moments. Also, I believe they are giving themselves a bit more production time for the switch to BBC2. Hopefully there will be a big improvement, because I wouldn't want to sit through another season that was, overall, as bad as the first.

Bloody hell - just checked imdb and it's true!

            From JMLIVE!

            Daffodils, Dragons and Demons
James will be playing a one-off concert in Cardiff on Saturday, July 21.

He will be appearing at The Point in Mount Stuart Square in Cardiff. Tickets cost ?20 (subject to booking fee) and are now on sale from The Point. Full details of the concert are available here.

James is in town filming for the second series of UK sci-fi television favourite Torchwood.
You're not only in a prime position to catch "Torchwood" S2 filming, but to catch JM filming, Jo - jamesmarsterslive.com is down, but if it's on imdb it's for real.

Ameer - Russell Davies, Torchwood's writer/director, is a Buffy fan. When he brought DW back to life he said if would have to reference Buffy. Wonder if JM is playing a sneaky variation on Spike ... wouldn't put it past RD ...

I've also heard a vicious rumour that a certain miss minogue could be putting in an appearance in next years Who.

Did you read that in Heat? I do find it unnerving that I get Doctor Who spoilers from that magazine before anywhere else...

JM on Torchwood could be brilliant, or it could just be an excuse to get him nekkid...

Wait a minute, where's the bad in that...? You know, if it was tastefully done for plot reasons....like shagging Captain Jack

Seriously though, if the writing is better this year, it'd be a pleasure to have another fun, interesting actor on the show. Hey, maybe he can have a pop at a Welsh accent this time?

A pattern is emerging - when JM was over here in Milton Keynes he spent the Saturday evening watching DW, presumably because this role was in the offing. Would the fan who innocently asked at a Q&A whether JM would like to be the next Doctor know anything about "Torchwood" gueststarring from the DW board(s), tangent?

JM thought the "guy doing it at the moment" was brilliant and therefore set in for the duration.

                        Erm...obviously I don't read Heat. I was just looking after it...for a friend.

I'm imagining John Barrowman and JM on screen together now...they could enjoy sharing a scenery sandwich

ROFL I think I'd recognise him if I saw him. I have a bad habit of wandering around without actually paying any attention to anything or anyone around me - that's how I ended up getting caught on camera the other week! I'm walking home from work, innocently minding my own business, turn into an arcade, and then a voice shouts 'action!' and I look up to see that I'm at the back of a pack of extras all starting to move. And up ahead there are lights, and cameras, and a couple of actors walking along talking, and behind them a production type gesturing frantically at me to keep moving. So I do, only slow, because I don't want to catch up to the camera any more than I already am!

'Tis lethal, having all these cameras around, you know.

Anyway, my point was that I shall try to keep my eyes open for JM, JB, and any other actors I might recognise

Honestly you lot! Some people have an OU course to finish instead of fantasizing about seeing JM in concert and lurking around Cardiff Bay Tesco and maybe he'll be a guest on Robin Hood some day so maybe he'll want to check out Notts to get in character and there's a few Tescos here and all...

                                  Ahem.

We're going to Tesco vicariously through you, Jo. Good hunting.

So, Martha's moving on to Torchwood (though she'll be back for some season 4 episodes). The BBC press release is here:

They'll be announcing a new Who companion soon, they say. The suspense is killing me!

*prays for Tamsin Grieg. Unless they have a plan to have a woman Doctor at some point in which case I can do without her for now*

At the moment it seems to me they should have a straight male companion - just someone who's absolutely not going to fall in love with the Doc. Enough of that.

Someone who won't fall in love with the Doctor? God, yes. I mean, I get the storyline reasoning for doing it with both Rose and Martha, but it did detract from Martha's character considerably. I have no problem with companions loving the Doctor, or him loving them. But making every single one of them fancy the pants off him gets stale very fast, and constricts the storytelling. There are other forms of human interaction out there, writers, and characters used to have a huge range of reasons for travelling with the Doctor, or for not travelling with the Doctor, rather than it just being about how they felt about him, or him about them. Let's all broaden our horizons in season four, please...

Martha on Torchwood could be interesting. I knew they were having a new character - makes sense for it to be her. Could be interesting to see how that pans out, though, given that she's meant to be a med student still. Will she finish her exams and then join Jack at Torchwood? Or give up on the medical degree completely, now she's seen the universe? Is she moving to Cardiff to join Team Jack - so what about her family in London? Hmm. Lots of possibilities to be played with there!

What I would love love love from a new Who companion is someone with a sneaky agenda...not necessarily evil!companion, but someone with a few tricks up their sleeves.

I rather hope Martha does stay with her family and finish her training before joining Torchwood. I want her to have a sense of her own self and identity before joining the woodies. Then I want her to go in there and sort out those numpties
