Okay, I wasn't sure where to put this, it was either New Shows, or here, and I went with here.
I haven't seena thread for PP yet so thought I'd start one. First of all I am most definitely prefering this to GA this season, as I really wasn't intending to like it, and more importantly I was really against liking Chris Lowell after VM, lol, yes I am that prejudiced - but the little bugger actually made me like him in this!
What I love about this series is the fact that we have a smaller cast and a tight-knit group of people, their stories can pan out more casually, and we have a lot of face time with the guest stars and their stories, it doesn't feel as crammed as GA does, I'm generally more of a lover of smaller-cast series rather than ensemble cast as I always feel we get more stories out of central characters, and more development.
More importantly, to me, the characters in PP are far more mature (okay, yes they have their immature moments!) than in GA, they are at a different point in life and have all had failed relationships that they are dealing with and moving on from. But the relationships that exist in PP, are better written than those in GA IMO. I just feel that the nature of their relationships (all forms, not just sexual) are done in a more realistic and mature manner. Maybe that's just me, but when I compare the two series, I always find that the relationships I care more about are those in PP, and it has only had 9 episodes!
I also feel the setting has a lot to do with the general mood and feel to the episodes. We have been taken out of the hospital and "clincial" setting and thrown into something far more relaxed and friendship/partner orientated, and thus our storylines, to me, feel a little more personal, and it feels like there is far moe interaction between all of our characters and guests.
I find in Grey's that there are several characters, I just don't like. Or characters that bug me to no end, or aspects of characters I don't like, etc, etc. but with PP I have been pleasantly surprised to find that I like all of the characters, and am enjoying their quirks and nuances. I think it has been cast extremely well especially with Paul Adelstien as Cooper, I absolutely love him in this role. I could be a little bias toward PP, Adison was my favourite character in Grey's and so I was glad to see her get her own series, but I was really ambivalent before watching this as to whether or not she could carry a show as a more central character, and yet I think that the whole chemistry between her and the others just works fantastically.
Which brings me to Chris Lowell. I'm sorry but any guy who can do "A Happy Pap" and do "Midwifery" and shout "Vulva" in a waiting room... you can't not love him. I often feel like Chris is out of sorts with the other characters - but I do love that about him, he's sort of on the outside, looking in to what the others have and to their jobs, and he tries to get involved, but more for Naomi's sake. But, although he is a younger character, I do like the contrast used in the show, and the constant remarks about him being a "child".
Okay, so I am done with my rambles. I just really wanted to open up some discussions on this series since I really can't remember seeing any and I've just finished re-watching it all back-to-back.
Anyone know if there's going to be any more episodes of this aired? I know GA had 11 or 12 filmed, but wasn't sure about PP. Also, anyone know if it is likely to get picked up for another season next year?
