  • Dr Quinn, Medicine Woman

OK, I confess. I have been known to watch "family" shows. Lois & Clark was another dark era of my past. But I have to get it off my chest, I can't hide it any longer. Hi, I'm Aissy, and I'm a Dr Quinn fan.

    10 reasons for this:
    1. Sully
    2. gorgeous scenery
    3. unusual mix of a hospital show (I like) and a western show (I don't usually like)
    4. interesting from historical point of view
    5. Sully
    6. both light-hearted and heavy at times
    7. Sully
    8. Sully
    9. not cliché
    10. Sully

Can any of you identify with my guilt and shame?

    While I'm here talking about Dr Quinn, just thought I'd warn prospective dvd users that I've just watched seasons 1 and 2 on dvd and the episode order is somewhat insane. To illustrate this notion, here's the order of season 2 as released on the dvds: 1, 5, 2, 16, 4, 13, 3, 6, 7, 8, 9, 12, 17, 11, 14, 15, 18, 19, 22, 23, 20, 24, 25, 21, 26 and 10.

Many of these are stand-alones but still. You've got Brian's puppy looking like a young wolf and then getting all fluffy and puppy-like again or you've got Matthew buying all of Ingrid's dance tickets and he's not even with her yet, what's that all about? I mean, the cast-changing on this show was bad enough, they could have at least kept the broadcast order on the dvds.

    But hey. Easily overcome.

Hope there are other fans out there, otherwise I've just written a whole post for nothing.

Awww, I remember this show. I never saw it consistently, mind, and I certainly never saw much of the later seasons. I watched a lot of the early years when they were on TV, though.

I seem to recall liking the oldest brother more than Sully. Should I admit that? What was his name again...? Matthew. Clearly I had my thing for protective older brothers even back then.

They changed the actress who played the sister at one point, didn't they? Damn, I can't remember any of the names...Colleen. The actress changed, and I could never get used to the new version. I liked the old one, and never did know why she changed - if the actress wanted out, or the studio got rid, or what.

So anyway. I'm going to be of absolutely no use to you with actually discussing the show, since my memories of it are clearly vague in the extreme. But just so you know that you aren't the only one here who has ever seen and enjoyed it

If we're 'fessing up to watching and enjoying family shows, I always really liked The Waltons...

Oh would you by any chance be alluding to Dean Winchester? That's interesting, having a thing for protective older brothers. I've realised I seem to have a thing for fathers/father figures/father-son/daughter relationships, don't ask me why. Hence Sully. Hence Angel-Connor. Hence I really miss John Winchester.

I read somewhere that everyone was contracted for 5 years but her father thought it was too long for her, so she got a contract for two years, at the end of which he probably asked for a rise or sommat, which was refused and there was even rumours that he was gonna disown her if she stayed on or obscure stuff like that. But I agree with you, even though she was in fewer seasons than Jessica Bowman (the new Colleen), to me, Erika Flores is the true Colleen. You probably didn't notice at the time (I did cos I was already a fan back then when it was first on TV) but one of Colorado Springs' children, Missy, looks a lot like Erika, and I always suspected she was the actress's sister. Now I've been re-watching the show I've paid attention to the credits and her surname is indeed Flores. Actually, be interesting to see if she's still on the show from season 3 onwards, after Erika had left - I'll have a look when I watch season 3.

But there was a lot more cast-changes than that. About half the actors are different in the pilot, Jake, Robert E, Loren, they're all different. And then later on they changed Mike's mother, Horace's nephew Lewis, and probably more I'll notice as I watch the rest.

Never watched the Waltons but I have seen the whole of Little House on the Prairie and that takes some doing.

Quinn, Medicine Woman was a pretty good show. I watched it sometimes and I only remember it vaguely but I liked it a lot.
Did anyone of you watched "Family Ties" and "Alf"? Those were amazing shows and I like them, to this day.

Family Ties I've never seen, Alf on the other hand, I only used to watch it occasionally but I only have to see the word to hear the theme tune in my head.

Watched the double eppy Cattle Drive last night (Dr Quinn 303-304) and there's no two ways about it - it is a gorgeous show (and that's not just Sully), and a classy Xmas present.

And just a little quote (cos I like quotes) from Fathers and Sons (Dr Quinn 302):

SULLY: How old were you when you first saw a naked man?
          DR MIKE: Sully!
          SULLY: How old were you?
DR MIKE: I was 26, he was 54 and I was dissecting him.

            Great quote!

I really enjoyed Dr. Quinn. My family and I used to watch it every week. My mother got me into it and I loved hospital shows, and Sully & Matthew kept me coming back for more.

I also really like the family shows. I think I've seen all the Waltons in repeats (again, my mother). All Little House (I really identified with Laura, LOVED that show). And as long as we're into confession mode: Full House has been an addiction of mine from the beginning. Can't really explain it, but totally hooked!
            It's blood...It's just like mine.
It doesn't matter where you came from or how you got here.

            You are my sister.

I loved this show. The reruns used to come on the Hallmark channel every morning and I would watch it every morning. My list of reasons for watching is about the same Aissy's. I loved sully. He was very hot. The show is also a tear jerker at times. Which is another reason I love it. Something I also liked is they used real Indians...not white guys in wigs. I actually met the main Native American guy that was friends with Sully.
I am a sucker for old shows as well. I have probably seen every episode of The Waltons and Little House on the Prairie...thanks to my mother. I also just got done watching season one of Picket Fences off of the net. Old shows tend to be more interesting that what is on tv nowadays.
