  • Favorite Non-Jossverse Show

Like the title says: What's your favorite NON Jossverse show?

Personally, I'd have to say Veronica Mars, Weeds, Heroes, and Bones. At the moment. My favorites kind of change, so I pop in quite often to tell which my favorites are. To explain each:

Veronica Mars: I might have to tie it with Jossverse shows. Yes, that's how supremely awesome it is! Unlike some, I think all three seasons are da bomb and bring so much greatness. In all 64 episodes, I only have 2 that I dislike, and none that I despise/hate. Yes, that INCLUDES Season 3. It brought some of the greatest hours to grace television, including "Leave It To Beaver", "My Mother, The Fiend", "Not Pictured", "Spit and Eggs", and "The Bitch Is Back". I literally gasp, cry, laugh, and cheer at the events in the show. I truly feel for all the characters and love them. Rob Thomas is an awesome creator who really knows how to bring forward his characters and the storylines are just superb. It's stunning. Perfect TV. Anyone who hasn't seen it, watch it. Just give it a chance.

Weeds: I've only just started this series, and have only seen the first season. Still, it's an awesome and superb masterpiece. It mixes hysterical comedy with heart wrenching drama perfectly. NO episode has been horrible, and none has been bad. Sure, some haven't been amazing, but doesn't that go for all shows? This show has one of the best acting, best writing, and best storyline ever. Can't wait for more.

Heroes: Even thought the first 3 episodes of Season 2 kinda sucked and so did the finale of season 2, none of the other episodes did. Season 1 was just amazing and I already had it on my favorites list by episode 12. Some amazing episodes include "Homecoming", "Fallout", "Godsend", "Company's Man", "Landslide", "How To Stop An Exploding Man", "Fight or Flight", and "Cautionary Tales". There are other amazing ones, but those are the ones that stand out. The storylines are great, and even though it occasionally pisses the hell out of me and sometimes has the worst creator, I love it. I'll always love it because it gave me some amazing storylines, writing, acting, and episodes that are just awe-worthy. Don't disappoint me again in Season 3, please.

Bones: I actually just started it this year, like Weeds. This I've seen longer, though. The first three to four episodes of the series aren't bad, but aren't that good either. They make you think it's another procedural show. But, trust me, it isn't. Don't listen to the Pilot. Hell, don't even start there! It gets so good. The chemistry between Bones and Booth might be the best on TV right now and I'm amazed every week. Season 2 was perfect in almost every way and "Aliens In A Spaceship"/"Judas On A Pole" are two of my favorite episodes ever made. Just....wow! Season 3 has been great as well, and if you like seasonlong mysteries, Season 3 is the place to start. It has a great one. So, check out Bones. It rocks my socks

Okay. Lengthy explanations. You don't have to do that Now, your turn

Veronica Mars! Do I have to explain how awesome I find it? I just watched it from the beginning, and kept me interested. I'll admit that season three made me angry for so many reasons, but I never missed an episode - no matter how much I threatened to stop watching. And I think if I didn't love the show so much, I wouldn't have been so passionate one way or another about any season

Arrested Development - because it's completely ridiculous and funny as hell. And still, it has a sense of heart (as in the warm fuzzies, not having a conscience). Plus, the network treated them sucktastically (while trying to sound supportive) and they had no problem making fun of it on the show

Psych - I just love stuff that makes me laugh. Most of it's awesomeness comes from the characters and their interaction. But the show itself is hilarious I get a lot of complaints (when I try to convert friends) about the premise [dude uses his awesome detective skills with a z to call in tips to the police station and collect the reward money. In turn, he becomes their main suspect for a case, and he pretends to be psychic in order to...not go to jail.] But whatev, it's superfun and entertains me to no end.

The Office (US) - The first season's funny. Not as funny as the UK episodes it tries to mirror, but still funny enough for someone who's never seen either version. For me, it gets to "OMG AWESOME!" when it starts to grow into it's own show. I feel like there's this new energy that I love, and the other people around the Office (as opposed to just four or five) become actual, permanent human characters. Plus, we get more than one couple to love.
would you do anything for me

      would have to be...

Torchwood, Tru Calling, Bones, Heroes and Doctor who! they are like my top shows, i can never pick just one!

Torchwood: i LOVE it because, A) its captain jack and he rocks! and B) the fact it went one step further than Doctor who!
Torchwood, had more of a chance to create a darker version of Doctor who, and they could do more with it because it was on so late, and that really appealed to me cause so bits actually did scare me! its really well casted and is written perfectly and i got so enticed by the characters!

Tru Calling: AWESOME show, loved season 1 on how the main character tru, kept helping these people and how she would save them, however, i felt that kinda got predictable by the 12 episode! however i was amazed by the massive twist at the end of season 1, and its made season 2 all the better!

Bones: ok.... i know theres becoming a theme here, most of the shows ive said, have or are having someone from buffy in them! but actually most these shows i watched not knowing! :O lol, well bones....
it was kinda gory for a TV show TBH! i was surprised with how much rotting flesh they could get away with! again a show that had a really good twist which really caught me by surprise! and i was so wrapped up in the relationship between the 2 main characters, Booth and "bones" temperance.

Heroes: EPICALLY AWESOME SHOW!!!! haha! one of the very few shows i think have been amazingly written like the Jossverse stuff! would love to see them collaborate! loved season 2, apart from the absolute shit ending! arghh! evil writers strike! i finally started watching this before it came to the UK, after my older sister bugging me for hours on end to make me watch it! and im soooo glad i did! i ended watching all of season 1 in like 3/4 days!! oops! i really hope the make season 3 ultra good to make up for the ending of season 2!!

And I would say that my favorite series would have to be: Tru Calling, what I've managed to see of Heroes, House M.D., Scrubs and even though it's an oldie I still love The Pretender.

Tru Calling, cause I have a girl crush on Eliza Dushku and also the whole changing the past thing is just interesting. The way they go about it, the way they stop the show from just becoming annoyingly repetitive and so on and so forth. It's a well acted and well put together series that I find very creepy, confronting and fun to watch.

Heroes I really haven't been able to watch much of at all. Between working late, girlfriend duty (not anymore! ) and housemates not liking what I chose to put on the teev, I just didn't get to see any of it. But I've seen a couple of episodes here and there, and I like! There will be box set missions planned.

House M.D. because House is such a jerk. I fell in love with the show mainly because one of my college flatmates told me he'd make me hot chocolate (cocoa) if I watched it with him. This guy could make a serious hot chocolate, so one did not say no when he offered. So I watched, was embroiled in the sarcasm and my fascination for pathological forces, and just went from there.

Scrubs. Yes, I know, two medical shows. I blame my friends. It's all their fault. I think it was the marathon that started at 10:30pm-ish and lasted until 11am-ish watching from season 1 to how ever far we got that did it. Plus two of my friends were med students (another a nursing student) and decided that we must watch every medical tv show in existance. Doctor Cox and the Janitor make me comepletely crack up, so I could not resist making it a favorite.

The Pretender, is way old, I know and fizzled a bit at the end, but those first few seasons were just great. There was an episode of that series that was so sad, I may have even sobbed a little over it. Whoever wrote the first few seasons seriously had talent.

Six Feet Under: A really awesome show, desperately in need of a fandom. I swear it's one of the best shows I've ever seen. If you do get hooked on the show, do not look it up on the net. Not Wikipedia, not Google, not youtube or anything at all. You will completely spoil the ending of the series.

Doctor Who: Great fun and excellent sci-fi stories makes this one of my favourite series. British tv is just awesome. There's such a wonderfully rich history to the show that's really interesting.

Really? I thought it was alot better than the Season 1 finale. Anyways, fave non-Joss shows, ok:

Veronica Mars: I think I love it because it's so captivating, and all the characters are fantastic, I love Cliff he doesn't get enough props, there was a slight dip in quality in Season 3 but I still remained fantastic television.

Arrested Development: I always think of it as a live action Family Guy, only better and a little less random. Tobias is fantastic though, I think Season 2 is my favourite because it really felt like there was alot going on and I lvoe the ending.

The Shield: This is an extremly gritty cop show, but it's so much more aswell, this is one of the few shows that gets better with each season (though I haven't seen S6 yet) 5 was especially amazing, my god that ending, I knew it was coming (damn you internet!) but....wow!

Alright this will go on forever so I'll just list the others:
Band of Brothers, The X-Files, Bones, 24, The Wire, Six Feet Under, The Sopranos, Battlestar Galactica, Seinfeld, Friday Night Lights, Gilmore Girls, Dexter, Weeds, Supernatural, Spooks, Batman: TAS, Justice league
and new favourites include, Alias, Chuck and Life.
            That should do it

Battlestar Galactica: So amazing! You really start feeling for these humans who are just trying to survive. The stories are amazing, great acting, fantastic characters. I can not praise this show enough.

Doctor Who: Awesome sometimes cheesy fun. The Doctor is such an interesting character. He's a bit pompous and arrogant, has a god complex, a huge fondness for humans, is a bit insane, adorable, hilarious, emo, etc. I just really love watching his interactions with other characters.

Friday Night Lights: This show feel *so* real. Like all of this stuff is probably happening. And they've got a really talented bunch of actors! You'd think almost everyone being a bit young they wouldn't be all that good but they're amazing. And every character is pretty interesting.

Robin Hood: Nobody on here likes this show! Depressing guys. It's pretty cheesy sometimes and is majorly historically inaccurate. But if I wanted history I'd watch The History Channel. I watch this for pure entertainment. What I most like about it is the character interactions because usually the main plot of the episodes are sometimes lame. But it's worth it just to watch the characters. Plus it's getting a lot better/more interesting/less cheesy in series 2 with Allan going darkside and Marian manipulating the shit out of Guy even more. Plus there's lots of HoYay! if you like that sort of thing. Which I do. lol

I watch too much tv. So I have a lot of beloved series!! No real order.

Lost. Best show ever. Or close enough. I can't get enough and I don't care that a bunch of you hate it!

Battlestar Galactica. Dude, watch it. You are totally missing out. It's excellent and heart-wrenching and fun.

Seinfeld. Best. Sitcom, Ever. "Not that there's anything wrong with that." "You know, if you take everything I've done in my entire life and condense it down into one day, it looks decent."

Roswell. My very first fandom. Ididn't really watch tv until I got hooked in this great show!

The X-Files. Does it get any better. Nine seasons and I love them all. Yay for a second movie being filmed!

My So-Called Life. Probably the best teen drama ever made.

Alias. Spies are cool. Especially when they look like Jennifer Garner.

Felicity. Four years of college with Felicity. Kind of cheesy at times...and sometimes I wonder why the soundtrack goes all adult contemporary...but still a great show.

Veronica Mars. For reasons other mention above.

Bones. A crime procedural with a hard character angle? Awesome. And they are quirky, weird people too.

Law & Order. Best procedural drama ever. I doubt another series will ever take that title for me. It's a classic and starting it's 18th season. Wow.

Supernatural. There's a lot of SN love on this board. I don't need to explain myself.

How I Met Your Mother. Didn't think I would like it. But it's legen--wait for it--dary! It's seriously funny and it's got a big heart.

Weeds. Excellent acting and writing coupled with phenomenal characters. It also so hilarious and it can make you cry. You gotta love a show with those capabilities.

Friends. Come on, it's a classic.

Other mentions: Gilmore Girls, Family Guy, Sex and the City, That 70s Show, House M.D., Friday Night Lights, 24, One Tree Hill (stupid guilty pleasure!)

oooh, for some reason I seem to remember answering this before, but repeats are fun!

La Femme Nikita - favorite show EVER other than Btvs. The original spy-chick series - it was hard and cold and fabulous. Plus it had the best tragic love couple of all times, if that's your thing...

Alias - a total rip off of La Femme Nikita, but still I love me the spy chick series. I totally preferred Season one and the first half of Season 2 to the rest of the series (before the SD-6 takedown) with all of the UST, but what can ya do...JJ likes to ruin series...

Friends & Seinfeld - the two best sitcoms ever made. Nuff said...

Chuck: I know this a relative baby compared to other shows, but there hasn't been a bad episode yet and the show just keeps getting better and better and more interesting and funny! every ep!

Other shows I've watched like a religous freak:

                    Supernatural
                    Smallville
                    Grey's Anatomy
                    Roswell
                    Felicity
                    Dawson's Creek
                    Charmed
(until they ruined it with the blonde bimbo... )
ER (up until Green left - now it's just getting ridiculous)
                    The X-Files (I'm up to Season 7 - part way through... )
                    24
                    Lois & Clark
                    (it was good! )
                    Battlestar Galactica

I have a few favourite shows

Charmed - will always be top 3, even though the last couple of seasons sucked a fair bit..
                      The O.C
One Tree Hill - new favourite of mine, looking forward to season 5
Hex - worst ending ever, because it got cancelled. Might even be a worse ending than Tru Calling..
                      Friends
                      Tru Calling
                      House
                      NCIS
                      Will & Grace

Battlestar Galactica is my favourite show of all time. It is just sooo good. It really stretches the boundaries of storytelling and every episode, even the ones that aren't as good, are better than the quality of most shows and manage to fit in so much depth. The characters, human and Cylon, suck you in, and add layers of complexity each new season. The political and mystical elements of the show make it even better.

Farscape is also a very good show. It's American-funded but wholly Australian made, and although some episodes are too typically science fiction, it gets into the emotion of the character arcs in a way that defeats most other science fiction shows on television.

You're right about the emotional character arcs. I'm pretty sure I've never cried at ANYTHING as much as I did with this show. Seriously it just gets so emotional and I start bawling. I was getting headaches from crying so much! And I watched the whole thing in like 4 days because I couldn't get enough.

Mmmmmmmmmmmmm. I'm nearing the end of Farscape season one - I've seen most of the show before, but in bits and pieces here and there, never in order all the way through. So this is my first time watching properly, and I'm loving it. It's just so much fun, and I adore the characters. Even the muppets have their moments of glory!

As most people who know me already know, Supernatural is currently my absolute favourite show. 'Nuff said. I'm adoring Pushing Daisies, as well, which is new this season. Still following Grey's Anatomy, and Heroes, which just finished season one on the Beeb. Doctor Who is also a current love, even when it is at its most ludicrous.

Older non-jossverse shows I've adored include Life on Mars, Rome and Dark Angel.

Yeah, I think it tends to get more inspired and original at the end/after the first season. It's great entertainment.

Yeah, me too. Gotta love Grey's Anatomy, and also Desperate Housewives. Great programs like Dead Like Me, Extras, Summer Heights High are also well worth it.

There's a lot of shows I enjoy, few I really love though.

Barring all my Joss favorites I the early seasons of both Scrubs and The Simpsons (if you count the first 10-11 seasons a 'early' anyway). Two shows that were great in their time; funny and different and smart, that have gone downhill in recent years. The Simpsons is played to the absolute extreme on cable TV in Australia, and I have it on in the background at least once a day but have yet to really tire of it.

Even though I've only seen season 1 so far, I'm finding Extras to be really great as well. The season finale was awesome and so funny.

If you look past around 4 really annoying episodes, Wonderfalls by the brilliant Tim Minear (whooooo!) is a quirky little show that has around the same amount of episodes as poor Firefly and some great characters. When it's good, it's really good.

Cowboy Bebop is the best anime ever. That is all.

I'm in the middle of Battlestar Galactica season 2 at the moment so I'm not sure if it would fit on my absolute favorites list. Time will tell.

Oh, season two is pretty damn good, imo! There are some relatively cool reveals coming. And season three is just superb. I must recommend BSG to folks. Like most shows, it has both its high and low points. But it is a quality series and worth a viewing.

Agreed, BSG is well worth any sci-fi fans viewing time, Season 2 has been my favourite so far, but I love them all, seriously can't wait for Season 4. Sorry I'm getting slightly off-topic here.

Oh God, difficult question. I have so many that I love. Doctor Who, The Sopranos, The Wire, Deadwood, Spooks (a guilty pleasure - John Le Carre meets 24!), House (ditto re guilt...I just love Hugh Laurie. And I liked him before he was American and mean. ) What else? Hmm....oh yes, The Mighty Boosh, Black Books, Have I Got News for You (if we're allowing non fiction shows?).

I'll have to go with Veronica Mars, House, Grey's Anatomy or possibly Bones. And I love Smallville.

Veronica Mars is such a cool show. It's intelligent, fun and very often it has really good story lines. I love shows who manage to juggle multiple story lines at the same time - VM does that brilliantly. In the first season the Lilly Kane story drew me in like, uhm... quicksand? Also, it has some really amazing characters, Veronica of course (she's a marshmallow ), Logan (who's my personal favourite), her father Keith (best dad a girl could havr IMO) and so on.

House. Is there anything bad about House? It's funny, cool and sarcastic! I love the relationship between House and Wilson. I think the show would be so much worse without it, because then there wouldn't really be anybody who could see through House and isn't afraid to say what he thinks. I just adoooore House (Also, my "BFF" ^^ would be House if she ever had a stroke and decided to be a doctor...)

I would go on but Heroes is about to start
