  • BBC's Robin Hood

Doesn't anyone else watch this? I'm completely obsessed with it. Amazing and intense last episode. Oh how I love Allan. And Will. And Allan/Will.

The show in general is a little campy (although s2 is far less cheesy if you ask me) but after like the first few episodes I started enjoying the cheesiness and it's like one of my favorite things about the show.

Please tell me at least one of you likes it!

I'm afraid I can't help you there. I watched about two episodes of the series when it first came out and found it far too lame and cheesy for my taste. It's all derring-do and not enough emotions, and the dialogue is far too modern for a medieval piece IMO.

Although my parents love it, and watch it every week!

Well yeah it's pretty cheesy. But it's part of the charm for me. It gets less cheesy towards the middle of s1 though.

As for the dialogue being modern yeah this show is far from being historically accurate but I like to laugh at the hilarious inaccuracies.

I didn't used to like it, but the past few staturdays i have watched it becasue my sister has and i actually liked it (but shhh! don't tell her that ) LOL. I like how it's a classic story but it's got a modern twist which makes it much easier to understand. When i first watched it i was like oh no, whats going on, but now i am really into it.

I had big hopes for the series but really apart from the luscious Marian there's very little there for me to make it must see T.V.

The modernism grates for me (medieval casinos?) and the whole spinning targets etc between scenes is far too batman (the seventies cheesefest series, not The Dark Night Returns which looks fab).

I think they could have done a far better job with the cast and mythos but to me it's Angel meets Robin Hood via Political correctness and a huuuuge slice of extra mature cheddar.

I had high hopes, as well, but gave up after the first couple of eps in season one. However, in season two my Small Sis has become obsessed - Marian is her current favourite character on TV - so I've seen a lot of the recent episodes. And I've warmed up to it, although it's never going to be a show I watch for myself. I think the trouble is that I went into it expecting or wanting a 'grown up drama', whereas that was never what it was going to be. It's the same as Doctor Who - it's teatime viewing intended for children first and foremost.

Basically, the show was never going to tell dark, historically accurate tales of medieval England. It is what it is, which is the modern version of the cheesy Robin Hood that was on when we were kids. It's a kids show, and does a decent job of introducing this generation to a very broad overview of 13th century politics.

A very broad overview. I still cringe at the generalisations and modernisms. But the difficulties caused by King Richard's lengthy absence on Crusade - he reigned for 10 years, and in that time spent less than a year actually in England - and the resulting baronial unrest, all that is true, and our kids are learning about it through this show. I just hope they don't end up believing that the rest of it is true, as well
