Wow, absolutely awesome, essentially flawless episode.
Excellent wrap to the Hiro arc, and, unsurprisingly, yes... it really was important. I'm happy to have correctly called that Kensei was the killer/Adam, the mastermind and resident megalomaniac of the ElderHeroes. Just an awesome thing. I'm very impressed all the way around -- poor Hiro had to cut out his heart, by leaving Yaeko. This episode made the entire arc worth it.
In the present, a LOT of motion on the paintings, on the Company, and so on. At least one of the paintings actually happened tonight, and another was set up.
Poor Niki is apparently in deep trouble... and, now, so is Claire. Some people are probably going to be instantly steamed that Claire is a central figure in the threat to the world again, but, tough! They've been setting up the danger to her of being taken for experiments for pretty much the entire run of the show, so it's very well developed and believable development that that danger has world endangering risks.
Glad to see Matt stick it to his dad, who really is a truly frightening enemy. But, he got to save Molly, which is very cool.
I'm now a little confused -- did Peter actually get his memory back, or just understand that Angela is his mom? From the preview, it appears part of this process is that he got worked over by the Haitian, so can he even *get* his memory back? If not, lame, but still, good to see he has the mission. And I'm kinda glad they've sort of given him his own arc, because he is the Superhero, and he creates narrative problems like they had in the Matrix sequels -- it was hard to put the other characters in jeopardy if Neo was around, and it's hard to give these characters problems too hard to solve if Peter is around.
By the way, West is a sociopath, and I don't like him, I don't sympathize with him, and I think he's just an all around tool. Claire is right to be wary of her dad at this point, but there are better causes to fight for than the continued company of that loser.
