  • Gilmore Girls Episode 7.22 Series Finale Thread

Hello to all of you GG fans!

I thought I'd start this thread so that we can all talk about the very last GG episode ever. I don't know about you, but I loved it! It was funny, very sad, heartwarming, touching and showed us one last time what a great show this was! I'm so glad that they managed to wrap up all of the storylines in a very fitting manner.

I cried so much during this ep, it started during the last Rory and Lane conversation and I remained sappy until the very last scene. Speaking of that very last scene: how awesome was that? Lorelai and Rory in Luke's dinner, cutting right back to the last scene of the pilot! I loved it!

It was great that we got to see another town meeting and that all of Stars Hollow's inhabitants could show the particular traits of their characters again. Kirk being the sashay giving person and Taylor's weird speech made me laugh. And Luke just made me melt in this episode. Organising the whole party for Rory and of course for Lorelai as well. The way they walked up to each other and Lorelai thanked him and he said that he just wanted to see her happy and then the kiss, I was awwwing and crying at the same time!

I was also very touched about what Richard said to Lorelai, I did not expect that and I was so moved by it. Also loved the talk between Lorelai and Emily and that Lorelai decided to keep going to Friday night dinners.

All the scenes between Rory and Lorelai were great and so touching. The things Rory said about Lorelai at the party, awww!

So watching this episode was a very bittersweet experience for me because on the one hand I loved that it was so good but on the other hand I kept thinking that it is just so sad that such an awesome show got cancelled.

I'm gonna miss Stars Hollow and all its inhabitants so much!

    Cori-

I am right there with you. I thought it was a great series finale. I cried like never before. I laughed like never before. I think I woke my mother up! I didn't get into GG til the third or fourth season so I didn't see the pilot (I am catching up on ABC Family) but I did at least get that full circle feeling in the ending scene where Lorelai and Rory were at Luke's diner. It felt right to me.

I loved everything about this episode- Luke getting everyone together to throw this party, epsecially when he sewed the tents! What a guy. I just melted that he wanted to see Loreali happy. The scene with Richard/Emily and Loreali- I too wasn't expecting that but it was wonderful as you could see how much they love Loreali and how proud of her they were. I especially loved how Emily was pleased that the Friday night dinners would continue on. How cool is that? I love it. I loved Rory and Lane's chat and the secret town meeting. Oh and the kiss! The wonderful kiss and he gave her the necklace! I've been frustrated this season with the whole Chris storyline but this really just erases all of the frustrations I had.

All this talking, is making me want to watch it again! I can't believe it's over but I am glad they didn't pick up another season because the finale completed it for me. It was enough for me to move on. Well, that's that.

Thanks for opening the thread, Cori!

I totally agree with you, Cori!

This was a good way to bring the show to an end and while I am very sad that there will be no more Gilmore Girls and I think there would have been enough material for going through another season, I am very happy that at least one of my shows ends happy and on a high note.

I love how they wrapped up all storylines and gave every character an opportunity to show up one last time. Unsurprisingly they used the last episode to re-inforce the long established relationships on the show. Rory and Lane, Rory and her grandparents, Lorelai and her parents, Lorelai and Luke and of course Lorelai, Luke and Rory in the end. The family that they basically always have been, finally together.

I love that they even gave the life-long hate and love relationship between Lorelai and Emily a conciliable ending, friday night dinners will continue to be a Gilmore tradition and somehow that makes me happy too. Richard finally being able to express his pride in his daughter was a nice note as well. After all the fights and misunderstandings between Lorelai and her parents, they grew together over the last 7 years.

I am so very happy that they used S7 wisely to repair the damage they did to Luke's character last season and when he and Lorelai finally meet on the street and he admits: "I just like to see you happy!" they just brought Luke's motivation for the last 7 years to a point. Yeah, I am sappy, I think this is the first show where my ship got a happy ending! LOL I am grateful for the little things in life!

I'm gonna miss GG next year, that's for sure!

Like I wrote in chatters....I thought this worked very well as a series finale. Works better as that than as a season one. And I just thought it was a fitting end. I felt like I got to say goodbye to everyone.

Although, I would very much have liked to have seen a little Mrs. Kim.

Ahh... yes... Mrs. Kim. I forgot about her. She could have lend her stuff from the store to help out with the party. I agree, it would have been nice to see her.

OMG I cried, I laughed, I loved it so much

It really was the perfect ending to such a beautiful show. Everyone had a part to play but it didn't feel rushed for time.

I love that Friday night dinners even without Rory will continue and hopefully Emily and Lorelai will become closer. Richard expressing his pride in Lorelai was beautiful. Lane and Rory's scene was lovely as was of course Lorelai's and Luke's

That party Luke threw was so amazing, and definitely was a great way to get Lorelai back so that also didn't feel like it was done just because it was the finally.. lovely to see he gave her the necklace too

Also really nice Rory talked about how much she missed Logan, I would have missed that if she hadn't mentioned him at all. It was lovely how she wanted Lorelai to be sadder about her leaving and when Lorelai was saying it was too soon my heart was breaking.

It really was a perfect ending. The characters are back to the way they should be and the damage of season 6 is completely over and I love that. I'm going to miss this show so much next season, but I couldn't be happier that it got a proper send off. That image of both the girls in Luke's through the window is how I always think of them!

That said I'm going to start on season 1 next season, one episode a week and have 7 more great years

              Good luck with that!

I'm glad most people liked it. I am particularly surprised that the ep had a series finale feel even though no one knew for sure it would be the last one. Kudos o the cast and writers and crew. I am doubly surprised with how much closure I feel for the series. There is nothing worse than a last episode that leaves everything hanging, like My So-Called Life, for example...among countless others.

Apparently after they found out they were cancelled they went back to reshoot the last scene. They watched the pilot and decided to end the series the same way

Oh I did not know that. It's really great that they decided to do that, it made the end of the series finale so perfect!

Oh and I agree with Beth and Jenni Lou, it would have been great to see Mrs Kim again but I guess there was just not enough time to fit everyone in.

Yes, I had read that. But the entire ep fit perfectly as a series finale so I was quite impressed.
