  • Buffy Blurb For Issue #19

    Hey

    New blurb for Issue #19 but unfortunately no cover as of yet. Didn't think I needed to spoiler this as it's publicly released anyway and doesn't give away anything;

Buffy and Fray take on a powerful foe, who's lasted hundreds of years just so she can bring down the last two Slayers.

Joss Whedon and Karl Moline, cocreators of the hit comics series Fray: Future Slayer, reunite in Buffy Season Eight with the highly anticipated story arc "Time of Your Life." Jo Chen and Georges Jeanty provide covers.

Who's thinking Dru? 'Cause I am

Waiting for hundreds of years to kill two slayers ... doesn't sound like Dru, too much thinking and I can see Spike, Darla or Angelus planning this for glory or to show once more how fantastic they are ... but Dru? I never saw her as a planner, and she was never obsessed with something like this before.

That said, I've no idea who it could be.

It's a possibility that the blurb could have over embellished a little in that regard? But who knows, Dru is kinda a planner? She planned for the Judge to come forth, that was all Dru, and she seemed to have the situation covered in Darla's resurrection? And we know she has the visions, perhaps she foresaw Buffy's arrival in the future? That'd be pretty neat IMO. And would explain why she'd know there's only two slayers left?

I don't know ... using the judge and becoming a mommy were both things that she could do at that moment and she did both with help (Spike and W&H) and a target that was already there (Buffy and Darla) ... now she has to wait for hundreds of years on her own. And why should she want to kill the last two slayers? And shouldn't she find a way to survive the final battle where the world becomes demons and magic free to be in the future? It's a lot of thinking for Dru, and I know that I shouldn't dismis her because she is crazy, but still ... she always joins Darla, Spike or Angelus with their plans, but we never saw her planning something big ...

But like I said, I've no idea who it can be ... it just doesn't sound like something Dru would do to me.

I agree that it doesn't sound in-character for Dru. But as mogs said, perhaps that's just the blurb writer getting carried away? As blurb writers so often do. It's part of their job...bend the truth til it squeaks for the sake of making something sound dramatic.

Though over hundreds of years, it's possible Dru's got a bit more sane/goal oriented??

It doesn't sound in character for it to be Dru as many people have said. If it is her they need to try and show a reason for it, because on her past appearances thats not really been her way, she was more of a doer in the moment than planner overall. She may have had moments of clarity and planning, but they were not the norm for her. She just seemed to go with the flow most of the time, where the tide took her kind of thing. If it is her I hope she doesn't get killed. If she's lasted that long she's clearly not stupid and to just kill her like that wouldn't do her justice in my opinion. To me she's the crazy one that gets to survive everything on sheer luck, and skill of knowing when to fight and when to get out. If it is her and they show how she came to this point it could work as she's survived 200 years plus ok so far with help and without it, so its not totally out of question she'd survive longer. But for me it does need to be explained how she came to this point or else it'll just look like using an old character for the sake of using a known character, instead of because its realistic and in character for that person.

I also immediately thought it's Dru. But considering that it's not really in character for her (like Joss cares), I would suggest an alternative: Amy. She a powerful Witch, so she should be able to survive for that long. She's a powerful foe. And she most definitely would wait that long to have chance of killing the last two Slayers. She both has the patient as the drive to do that.

But isn't Amy more interested in Willow than Buffy/Slayers? I do agree she's more likely to be willing to go the distance and make that kind of plan, and she is a powerful foe. But again they'd have to explain it why she's now interested in the slayers so much. I've always thought most of what she's ever done was driven by her dislike of Willow. Although then again considering Willow made the slayers, maybe they could play it that Amy wants to end the Slayers, thus in doing so beating/bettering Willow.

Well, I'd say that in the first arc she also showed she hated Buffy. What with the nightmare and Amy wishing it would give Buffy a lot of pain. The latest episode also showed she's willing to assist Twilight in destroying all the Slayers in the headquaters.

I'm not certain it will be Amy though. She's a alternative to Dru. I still think it's Dru. A problem is that for a while there has been no Slayers until Fray and her brother arrived on the scene. How would a foe know that there are still two Slayers to come? Dru could have seen it in her visions. That'd give her motive to wait until they arrive. If she's Icarus' sire and by that if she's Harth's grandsire, it would all fit nicely.

I'd never quite thought of it like that. I still think they'd need to expand somehow on why she wants the death of those two slayers. i know she doesn't like Buffy but I thought it was Buffy not slayers in general. I kind of hope its not Dru I love the idea of her out there causing mayhem. But if it is as long as they make it believable and give her reasons, then I'm sure it could work.

Well it's either Dru or Harmony...

My guess is on the former, she fits the requirements and descriptions nicely.

I do hope though someone manages to stake her in the current timeline so this Fray crossover is rendered moot.

Not really seeing what's so out of character about Dru if its her. She's a vampire. Vampires hate Slayers. Dru definitely hates Buffy on a personal level. Work in a plotpoint where she's had run-ins with Fray in the future, and voila. It works just fine if that's the direction they're going. I mean I'm sure they'd flesh out the motivating factors, but all the same I think some are making it more complicated than it has to be.

Is it definitely a female? Was the blurb correct in saying "she"?

I don't see it as Dru and certainly not Darla. Darla never wasted her time on Slayers.

If the "she" were out of the way then I would say Frey's brother "Harth" because he's on the Jeanty cover.

Maybe it's a new "old" character we will be introduced too.

But it could be a very bitter Dru...

Just a thought - if it is Drusilla, it's not so out of character: she's perfectly capable of acquiring a grand romantic obsession and pursuing it relentlessly for over a century. And the one thing that motivates her above everything is reuniting her 'family' - and, perhaps, punishing those who destroyed it?

Or alternatively, it's 200-year old serpent-magic Willow. Yikes.

I think she'd have to take it in that way - a family thing, something personal. She's not much for the grand schemes and mwah ha ha-ing. But if she thought the slayers were naughty and needed to be spanked, that might work

If that was true...Just a random fun thought about how Buffy could discover that Willow's still alive in the future...before Willow appears: Buffy goes to a temple of some kind, and discovers a statue to a snake goddess who looks eerily like Willow...
