  • Could Dawn die?

I decided that this should be in the Season 8 section because some of us could mention the incidents that are occurring in the comics, so...

We know that Buffy will always survive because, like the show, we can't go on without her. Willow, Xander, and Giles could, however, die. Maybe not as likely as recurring characters like Andrew, Kennedy or even Faith, but they still could. Have we forgotten when they seriously considered killing Xander near the end of season 7 (ref. "Dirty Girls" DVD commentary with Drew Goddard)? So my question is: could Dawn die? I can't settle on an answer because she is directly tied to Buffy. If Dawn died, it would not sit well with Buffy at all. Dawn -- despite her supernatural-inity -- is very much Buffy's tie to a natural life. So are Xander, Willow, and Giles, but they are more of a collective party (aka The Scoobies).

If Dawn could never die, why not?
If Dawn could die, how so?

    Just a thought I had...

Seriously: I don't think she could. I think she's safe. I'm not sure, but I think Joss and co will keep her safe- I think Xander, Willow, Buffy are safe. I don't think Giles is.

(Not-serious: YES! She will die of malnutrition, she's too big to be able to get enough food!)

I think that Dawn is safe. BtVS keeps the main characters safe anyway ... but Dawn is the reason that Buffy jumped in the Gift, she is safe. The same with Connor in Ats. Buffy and Angel wouldn't survive it when Dawn or Connor dies. Angel said once that he can't die when Connor lives and I think that the Buffy feels the same about Dawn. I think that both are the most save characters (together with Buffy) in the 'verse, because I can see Angel being killed in the end.

I do think that they can ship Dawn back to an university or something ... that she is for a while out of the story, but she won't die.

No one is safe NO-ONE be afraid of the nasty writers. They killed Tara *sobs*
my Tara *sniffs* if they killed Tara what makes you think they own't kill Dawn.

On a more serious note now honestly I doubt but with Joss you never know. Well actually you do. When he killls characters of he likes to leave clues so after it happens people can go "ahh! I can see the evidence." For example crazy tara.

Just looks out for the signs. That's how you'll now If someones going to bite the bullet

Good point, what does she eat? Does Willow magically grow giant food or something, we saw Dawn toss a handful of apples from a tree in her mouth in 8.06.

Anyway, I think they couldn't kill Dawn because, although she came later than the others, she's still part of the whole group dynamic, almost like the 5th Scooby, (which could be true, there were 5 members of the Mystery Inc team after all). But if she did die I don't think Buffy would be able to slay, she'd probably give up, like she said she was going to at the end of The Gift. Either that or she'd go completely suicidal and just fight all crazy and wildly which would then get her kill.

I think if Dawn did die it would be something mystical to do with her Key-ness.

Of course she can die. The question is will she remain dead.

Hahah, valid point. I was more asking if she could Jenny-Tara-die, not Angel-Buffy-die.

It's possible, but I could see a lot of fans not wanting to accept the comics as canon if too many characters die off. Of course, Joss probably doesn't care, because his priority is likely in making a good comic, not producing a Mary Sue type story for everyone to relive Buffy and never have anything bad happen. He has that whole thing where battle requires loss. I could see her being a part of that, but I kind of hope she isn't.

I think Giles is pretty safe simply because of Ripper. I think the movie is supposed to fit in alongside S8, and definitely not contradict it.

The movie would be HUGE though

So. Ripper is on as a Movie?

Well obviously nothing is set in stone before production starts, but I think it's pretty likely that it will happen.

OMG! I thought of the perfect ending to buffy! Dawn keeps changing right, so what if in a couple of more issues more towards the end dawn changed into a big bad and buffy was forced to kill her. Then Buffy might either choose to give up or kill herself. Who knows, but i would love to see that happen. Cuz who really knows what Dawn's gonna change into next!
