  • Should I buy the TPBs?

Well, I have all the issues...and I was thinking, should I buy the TPBs too? Just to have?

I mean, I have The Long Way Home TPB...do you think it's worth it? Should I buy the NFFY TBP?

    Does anyone else buy both?

I buy the individual issues to see what happens before the TPB comes out and put the TPBs after my Buffy DVDs but I'll read those when I want to re-read them.

If you think you'll flip through them often, it's worth it to get the TPBs. One collected book is much more convenient for re-reads than a handful of issues.

      I buy the TPB's - and here's the two reasons I buy them -

      - I like having all the stories in ONE book - they are easier to read. You can just go from one story into the next story.

      - The comics are collectibles. Once inside their "bag n' boards" they get filed away some place for safe keeping. But that also means if I want to refer to some "factoid" I have to get them out of their plastic shrouds. If you are a true collector of comics all that stuff "means" $$$$ when trading or selling.

Some of my comics have autographs now - which is considered a comic trading "No-no" because they are considered "defaced". I don't care - those have sentimental value to me. I love my "Spike and Dru" comic signed by James and Juliet and my Mal Serenity cover signed by Nathan Fillian. If Jewel Staite and Adam Baldwin keep their promises I'll get my other two covers signed as welll!!

The TPB's I can keep out, thumb through, and refer to when I need too.

I'm a great believer in buying trades. I think it's so much more enjoyable to read the stories without adverts (I mean, that's why I like DVDs partly, after all). But also... knowing myself, I'm much less likely to lose a book than a comic. But you may not be so careless of course.

But, the main problem is that if I wait for the trades...then I won't be able to read the issues the SECOND they come out. I'd have to wait AT LEAST three months after the arc is over.

Ah, yes. My solution? Buy both

I started out by doing both, but I just couldn't be bothered to get every issue (it also doesn't help my comic shop isn't exactly close...) I always buy everything TPB. All my DC comics, its easier to display and just easier to keep in better condition. I'm always afraid my regular issues will get dirty or ripped easier cause they are printed on cheaper material.

I don't mind waiting, but I guess some people can't. I would say buy both, I mean an issue is what, 3 dollars top? So its not like you are tossing in major money, its just one less coffee you'll drink.

I totally just bought both trade paperbacks last week, after much contemplation. Because I too was wondering if it was worth buying them if I have all of the issues.

                It is.

I have been wondering the same thing. I have all the issues to date but i have been thinking about getting the trade paper backs. i want to but im also wondering if i should save money for the chosen collection dvd set. its cheaper than buying all the seasons seperately but i already have the first three seasons. although i could sell them after. what should i do, get the TPB's or the Chosen Collection dvd set? (or both in the long run)?

Considering you already have three seasons, it would probably be cheaper to just buy the rest individually, but I guess the Chosen Collection is more compact and would therefore take up less room which equals more DVD storage capacity. So it depends on if you want to spend less money or have more space.

I think the TPB's are a good idea to buy 'cause you could accidentally damage one of the individuals and may not be able to get it again or it could take a while, but if you have the TPB's it would be less likely to get damaged.

I'd buy the TPB's anyway 'cause they're attractive with their covers and if you brought the Chosen Collection you could store them next to each other, but I suppose it all comes down to money and if you are willing to spend more when you needn't have to.

I would say buy the Chosen Collection since you only have the first three seasons -- and by Buffy Fan Law, you must possess all seven. Also because I believe the Chosen Collection is harder to get your hands on, so the quicker you can purchase them, the more likely you'll be able to. The trade paperbacks will be around for a while, considering they've been recently released. But I strongly recommend you get them, because even I was skeptical at first, but they make a far better read. The flow is unbelievably better (yes, even the action-packed "The Long Way Home") because they have absolutely have no ads.

Thanks for your input. i have been doing some extensive research over the web and i found a great deal. In Canada, at HMV there is a set of buffy seasons 1 - 7 for $115.00 Thats almost 50 - 100 dollars cheaper than most sets depending on where you buy it from. The only downside is the box is different than the chosen collection on and the dvd's have new covers. But i dont really mind cuz its still buffy and now i'll have enough money for the TPB's too. Thanks for helping me make up my mind! Below are the links for the collection and the other dvd's so you can see the new covers.

Yeah I've collected all the issues up until the end of 'Wolves At The Gate' and am now stopping. I live in Australia so the comics when you add on the shipping costs are around 10 dollars for me, which isn't much at all but I have other expenses. So I'm waiting for the trade to come out for the next arc and onwards and I'll buy them instead. And because I'm a freak, I'm going to by the trades for 'The Long Way Home' and 'No Future For You' as well because it'll bug me having all separate issues then suddenly trades

The trades are on better quality paper, are all together with no adds and the covers are breathtaking. And I like having the trades as it really does feel like on episode with the whole arc combined into one. And seeing that I have other means to read the comics pretty much as soon as they come out, it isn't as if I won't be able to view them until I wait for the trade to come out, so I'm not missing out on anything either.

Wait...other expenses? You mean you buy things that aren't comics? That's all kinds of wrong!

Totally right with you there on the comics OCD. I cannot have gaps in my collection. It makes the world feel wrong

Yeah, there's something so satisfying about the trades... just re read some of no future for you this morning and it felt more... just more something. Not sure. Substatial I suppose.

Thats not Canada, thats all the UK region 2 DVDs. Canada has all the same DVDs as the us, and that price isn't in Canadian... its euro (I think thats what they call it). But yeah, the UK has different art and stuff... So just so you know, Canada has the EXACT SAME DVDs as The US. And not their own boxsets with different art.

You should definitely get the TPB's. I got the first one yesterday and i am for sure getting the next ones. They are so much better quality and look Amazing. Empasis on the Amazing. If you're having any doubts don't! It is totally worth it and you will not be disappointed! But you should still collect the comics too because if you put them inside plastic comic covers they stay in great condition and you can get them for dirt cheap at most comic stores too! They are also just a keepsake to have. So BUY BOTH is the solution to everyone wondering if they should get the TPB's! You will not be dissapointed!

Okay, here's where my Canadianessity gets to settle the dispute The DVD covers are exactly the same as the US ones because we are considered the same Region in DVD distribution lingo. However, in Canada, because the official languages are English and French, DVDs are provided in both languages ("Buffy the Vampire Slayer" / "Buffy contre les vampires"). Aside from the audio and the titles, the DVDs are the same.

Thats the slim disc, mine only have english on the cover... Though my Charmed is kinda messed up, cause like season 1 and 2 have just english and season 3-8 have english/french which doesn't match!

Yes! Which is kind of a pain ~~ cause it kinda wrecks the DVD art when they just throw in the french title kinda spit in the middle and sometimes not even the same font.

I would suggest amazon.ca/amazon.com over HMV.ca, from what I've learned they are no longer selling things online - just being like a guide for upcoming releses and such.
