  • Fantasy writer/artist thread: who would you like to see on season 8?

The debate about Marti Noxon as a possible writer for season 8 got me wondering what writers I'd like to see on the comics. Do you have any desires along those lines? Comics writers you'd like to see? Or Buffy writers? Or any writers you think might be good in the medium, even if they've only done telly before? Or even something else entirely? Like?novelists? But also, any comics artists?

    - I would love love love to see what Alan Moore would do. His Halo Jones gives me faith that he really knows how to write a) for young women characters and b) for something epic in scope but personal in focus. Plus, he's in the story (in passing) so that would just give me a happy on a meta level.
    - Mike Carey has the right zippy dialogue but also great with fantasy ideas in realistic settings. His recent The Faker is a good example of that. College kids coming up against eerie and unnatural circumstances. Oh, and God Save the Queen, which deals with fairies in a modern urban setting. Also, anyone who can write John Constantine can write Giles in his grittiest capacity? and if they ever wanted to bring Spike back, Constantine is also a good training.
    - I'd like to see Brian Bolland do some artwork. His work on the Killing Joke = for the WIN.
    - Basically I want a bunch of Brits, don't I?
    - Rule Britannia!
    - Ahem
    - So, on that tack, I'd like Grant Morrison (yay, Zenith! Dare! And if you can write X-Men you can write Buffy, innit? Same characters basically ), Neil Gaiman (not so much for Sandman, actually, as his sense of humour in Good Omens).
    - Mark Millar also would be excellent. I loved Chosen.

I'm sure I'll come up with more, but those are for starters. How about you? My only "oh god no" would be Frank Miller. Bless him, but a story with no guns and no hookers might be a bit of a toughie for him Though I'm trying to think of some counter examples now, cos I'd quite like him in the mix as an artist?he could do a semi-silent noir story to parallel Hush, perhaps featuring Buffy's criminal life? Though I think I'd miss the hard boiled dialogue possibilities.

More Cliff Richards! More Cliff Richards!

Kind of dreading the Fray arc, Eek. Although I am excited to see how Karl will draw Willow.

Frank Miller needs to be shot in the head ala the argument from "Trainspotting" really, have you read "The Goddamned Batman" (All Star Batman and Robin)? It's awful.

My shout outs would be to Bruce Timm or Paul Dini, I'd love to see an story drawn by Timm. Other than that, I voted for Bendis in the poll, but only because Brubaker wasn't an option. He is full of epic win.

Artists? Jo Chen would be SWEET, (One of the few non Japanese who can do Manga style well. Michael Lark would be my fantasy artist for ATF. Oh and who could forget Darick Roberts and Steve McNiven would be my fantasy pencilers for Buffy.

J.J. Abrams!! Or Carlton Cuse and Damen Lindeloff!

Chen should do covers and Uru and Jeanty can do work inside.

Neil Gaiman would be pretty good I think. The guy's good at mythic but human and I think that could play pretty well in season 8.

He might be better with ATF mind you. Some of the hell imagery and reality blurring would be right up his street.

I'd love the original Gen 13 team (Jim Lee, Brandon Choi, and J. Scott Campbell) to do an arc, but that wouldn't happen. I'd love to see the art of Tim Sale in the Buffyverse, though. Many will recognize his work as the artist who painted all of Isaac's work for "Heroes".

Oh most certainly Tim Sale then! I just love his work in 'Heroes' it is fantastic. I think he could draw Buffy very, very well as I love his images of Claire.
