On a hot tip, Buffy and Willow head to Manhattan hoping to unlock the secrets of Buffy's mysterious scythe, but something goes terribly awry when Buffy suddenly finds herself transported to an unknown world, and into the path of future Slayer Fray.
Buffy creator Joss Whedon teams with his Fray co-creator Karl Moline in "Time of Your Life." Jo Chen and Georges Jeanty join the team for covers.
My opinion:
Spoiler:
So Buffy and Willow are heading to Manhattan to learn more about the Scythe? Looks like its confirmed that Buffy has reclaimed the Scythe by the end of "Wolves at the Gate".

Spoiler:
Or they're trying to find out what else the Scythe is capable of doing. I mean if they don't recover it, they probably need to know how their enemies are able to use it against them (other than the usual slice you to bits kind of way). My question is why would they be heading to Manhattan? Of all places to look for information on an ancient slayer artifact, Manhattan wouldn't be the first place I would look. Then again maybe that's the point. Go someplace where no one would expect. Ah, tricky. Wait a minute is Fray set in Manhattan?

You know what's horrible, I'm subscribed to that thread too! Apparently my brain remembers absolutely nothing.
Spoiler:
Alright so now that she has it, it still doesn't answer my question about why they would be heading to Manhattan. You would think they would need to go someplace older and more rustic to find answers about the scythe.

Spoiler:
Because they're going to meet alternative-reality-Buffy from the season 8 we were writing on Buffyworld, which was set in NYC
Wolfie, that would make for some interesting story-telling indeed
Holypotatoes, about your Fray question,
Spoiler:
"Fray" is set in a huge urban sprawl, and the "lowers" where she lived were called Haddyn. Which sounds like a bastardization of "Manhattan", so it's probably meant to be NYC. Plus, I think it's just part of this whole world tour Joss has going in Season 8 for the best reason ever... because he can! I suspect we'll be hitting Paris at some point.

Ooh, Paris. Please let Harmony be there, please....I love Harmony. Ok, that might be gilding the Lilly. Anyway, Manhatten/NYC is where all the best nightmare futures happen. Megacity One, for example.
*Prays for a Joe Dredd/Buffy meeting in some comics universe some time. She is the law, he is the law...they've got to come to blows. Then have hot!clone!sex!*
Hopes and prayers aside, I'm looking forward to a Buffy and Willow mission, I'm eager to see more of them working together - and to explore more of the ethics of what Buffy's been up to lately, and how Willow sees her...and what the way forward is for slayers, for Buffy, for the whole damn shebang.
Haddyn, where Fray lives, is definitely 23rd-century Manhattan. In one of the big cityscape overview shots we can see the Chrysler building in the background. (It's dwarfed by later even taller buildings, but it's recognisable.)
