Season Nine Discussion

So Joss has mentioned a season 9, whether he is or not, i don't know. But is he actually serious about one.

What would you like it to be like?

At the end of series eight i want all the slayer line to be reversed so they all loose theire powers, including buffy and faith, season 9 could be retitled an not bufy the vampire slayer and we could see some issues with buffy fighting monsters but also her trying to cope with not having these powers anymore.

Boo! Ally is against undoing the spell (see other thread). But didn't Joss also say that season 9 would take place in the future (say, Fray future....which has been alluded to). That's what I want to see. Buffy and co magically sent to the future to hang out with Fray.
Or can they be sent to Firefly future??

I'm sorry, I'm a sucker for cross overs....Can't you imagine Mal and Jayne having it out with some baddies and poof, Buffy and Xander pop into the middle.

I don't think Joss meant that it'd take place in the future. When he said it'll be a few years later I thought he meant when season 9 would start, not in relation to the story. As we still have season 8 for a few more years yet.

Well I could be wrong. That's just how I interpreted what Joss was saying. Who knows maybe you'll get a happy.

I think Joss said it would be "many" years later. To me, it feels like we're talking about at least 10 years so so, *or* an out and out time-jump of some of the Buffy characters into the Fray timeline.

If it's a near-future thing, I actually suspect that's the best shot we'd have at Buffy/Xander -- that Season 8 would end with the potential for romance, and Season 9 would begin by just resetting them as a fully formed couple, maybe married, several, several years later.

The only thing I'm dying to see is Angel and Spike back in the Buffyverse, preferably both at the same time, as to create as much of a love triangle as possible. There's just too much building up to this for it to not happen at some point.

See, I'm the opposite. I don't think there's anything that's more totally over at this point than the Buffy and the Vamps That Love Her triangle. Find new love interests among established characters. I'd obviously rather her be with Xander, but honestly I'd rather them use Oz as a Buffy love interest whenever he's eventually brought back than to retread the vampires.

I only think they should bring Angel or Spike back in that department is if it's to end it once and for all. Meaning, I'd only want to see either return if it was for Buffy to make the choice and be with him and that be that. Not to have them leave again with it all open-ended. That ship's sailed.

I agree. They've done the heart ache, forever love, hellmouth, AR, soul, no soul, chip, no chip, cookiedough speech, Angel/Spike rivalry. There is no need to go there again. At all. And I kind of like having the non closure, because I do truly believe Angel and Buffy are meant for each other but they can't be together and I'd like to keep it like that.

I think if Joss takes us to the Fray future, I think it'd would kinda a slap in the face to Buffy fans. Yes, we can have a Fray arc, but an entire season? It kinda sounds like he just wants to reboot a series that has kinda been lost to time.

I'd love to see a "Cure" type arc, much like Xmen3, but not as crappy. And have like the Government pushing it on people (great chance for Riley to reamerge).

I don't think Joss will stop the fence-sitting re: Angel/Buffy/Spike. He's had at least two chances to do so (Chosen and The Girl in Question) and he ended the 'ships on equal footing in both cases. And after my initial annoyance, I've decided I like it better that way. Gives us more incentive to write and read fanfiction.

Of course, that doesn't mean I don't want a Spike/Buffy and Angel/Buffy reunion at some point in Season 8 or Season 9.

Id' like to see them again, kinda to put to closure the romance aspect. I imagined Angel showing up at one point with Connor, and work in a story where it shows the aspects of Buffy's life and family in Dawn, Xander and Willow as opposed to Angel's life with Connor (I'm hoping they're together, just the two of them, father and son champions at the end of ATF), and just show that while they'll always care for each other, they're in different places and their both champions but on different pathways.

Joss has pretty explicitly tried to provide closure to both of those 'ships several times, and it never takes, so he settled on fence-sitting. I don't see the point in wasting yet another attempt to provide "closure" to a completely non-responsive audience.

Well that's a good point, but even if closure isn't an option, I would still like to see Angel show up again at some point. I'm firmly in the camp that he's moved on and like i said, on a different path from Buffy, but at the same time, a possible one shot of him and Connor working with the Scoobies I think would be a cool story for simple fun factor.

I personally hope the "time jump" will only be to our real time. So, in 2010, when Season 8 finishes, the time would jump to 2010 or 2011, depending when Season 9 releases. Buffy, Xander, and Willow would still be pretty young so they wouldn't be too old. Plus, it woulndn't be a huge jump so not an extreme amount of time has passed.

I agree. If he wants to continue Fray, I'm all for it, I really liked Fray. So, I'd read, but I think he should make a Fray series, like a Fray: Season One, spinnings off of the Fray arc from Season 8.

I think a "Cure" storyline could be interesting, possiblly expanding the drug used to take away the Slayer's powers on her 18th birthday. It would be a great way to re-introduce Riley. I think he'd be a great addition to Season 8.

Well Spike and Angel are still up there in my preferred Guest Stars guys
I think he did say many years into the future? Don't have that link anymore. I'd prefer if it was the future as in "now".. or whenever now is when season 9 hits the shelves. Joss must have a good story involved because I generally can't stand those flash forwards they do at the end of popular tv series.

I had heard Joss wanted to start Fray again. So S9 could be more about the move to the "Big Fight" that ends all magicks.

Fray specifically says they don't know what happened to the last Slayer called. So it would be nice if Buffy just resigns herself to being a human girl and fades into anonimity. Maybe has a nice life. Especially since there won't be anything for her to fight anymore - all demons and magicks are destroyed until Fray is called.

So we have the Big Fight, a span of time without magicks that no one will write about because there won't be anything to write about, then we have the Fray story that is currently out, and Joss will continue after the last issue with her story.

If you haven't read Fray - you really should... You may get to see her sooner than you think...
