  • Final(ish) list of upcoming writers and arcs. Layout of S8 revlealed.

Well in a recent Scott Allie interview he gave a general outline for the final writers and artists for the rest of S8, kinda scary when I realize that there isn't really all that many arcs left from the looks of things. After Wolves, Joss is doing an arc with Fray. After that one of my all time favorite (and sometimes least favorite) writers, Jeph Loeb is going to be doing issue 20, then according to Allie we get a mishmash of writers for 21-30. 31-35 (at least four of them anyway) will be done by Brad Meltzer, and the last five issues will be written by Joss.

    The interview is here:

    The Breakdown:
    #1-5 Joss Whedon
    #6-9 Brian K. Vaughan
    #10-11 Joss Whedon
    #12-15 Drew Goddard
    #16-19 Joss Whedon
    #20 Jeph Loeb
#21-30 A combination of Jane Espenson, Doug Petrie, Drew Greenberg, Jim Krueger and one other TBD
#31-35 Brad Meltzer (four or all five issues TBD)
    #36-40 Joss Whedon

21-30 will have one arc that is several single issues by different writers, Jane, Doug, Drew, and Jim will each be writing one issue. This makes me think that we have another arc in there as well. Joss also said that 21 would really shake things up.

Kinda crazy that it looks like we really only have 4 arcs left after this one.

See it this way; there are comics for the next 2,5 years.
It's a lot ... and is this only season 8? ... we will get another 3 years after this?

        TBD=To Be Determined

Basically they still haven't confirmed the writer for one of the issues in the 21-30 block of five that Joss talked about. My guess is they have an idea, but might not have it completely hammered out yet.

Ok, rereading Joss' Newsarama interview, looks like CBR got things a little off:

NRAMA: Wrapping things up, let’s pull back to look at the big picture again. Production-wise, are the rest of the Season’s writers locked in at this point?

JW: Pretty much. I have one segment that is not yet assigned, but apart from that, there’s Drew, then comes me, then five different writers on that one arc, the unassigned arc, and then we’re into the last ten, and that will be by Brad Meltzer (on the first arc) and then me (on the last arc).

NRAMA: And the five standalone writers?

JW: At this point, it looks like it will be Jane Espenson, Drew Greenburg, Doug Petrie, Steve DeKnight, and Jim Krueger. Four Buffy writers, and a great comic book writer.
So after the Loeb one-shot, we have the 5 stand-alones/arc, then another arc with an unconfirmed writer, then Meltzer, then Joss.

So it should go like this:

        #1-5 Joss Whedon
        #6-9 Brian K. Vaughan
        #10-11 Joss Whedon
        #12-15 Drew Goddard
        #16-19 Joss Whedon
        #20 Jeph Loeb
#21-26 A combination of Jane Espenson, Doug Petrie, Drew Greenberg, Jim Krueger and one other TBD
        #27-30 TBD
#31-35 Brad Meltzer (four or all five issues TBD)
        #36-40 Joss Whedon
