  • A Beautiful Sunset

    Hi!

Now that we have the Jo Chen cover for nr 11 and the title, "A Beautiful Sunset", did anyone think of Buffy's line "I think it's a beautiful sunset." in response to Xander when they were talking about what the Twilight symbol might mean? This quote was taken from "The Long Way Home pt. 1". This along with the fact that this issue reveals who this season's big bad is makes me think we are finally going to learn what the symbol means, and who is behind it(Well, obviously we are going to learn the latter).

Also, did we ever get to know who floaty guy in black boots were from the first issue?

Jon Foster did the cover, not Jo Chen.
And this discussion can be found in this thread.

That's a wonderful point that I completely missed..

      I never thought of that...

Yes the new enemy will be revealed.. and it's a returning character.. Joss wouldn't say this and then change his storyline.. he's been known to think ahead and have things planned. I don't know who it possibly could be.. best shot so far would be Adam (closest resemblance).

One thing that HAS also been revealed is who kissed Buffy.. apparently Scott thinks that it has already been shown who kissed Buffy and encourages fans to look over the older issues.

and no the floating guy has not been revealed.. many thought it was Ethan after we found out he was the mystery dream date.. but once we found out he's been locked up for days.. it couldn't have been him.

Two problems -- it doesn't really look anything like Adam, or any other returning character, and also... Adam really, really sucked.

I'd rather it be Toth, honestly

Or Doc. Or that weird sand-dude that Giles knows. Or the soul demon guy. Or D'Hoffryn.

I think the BigBad could be this guy:

While, he's not exactly a returning character in a, "he comes from the series canon" kind of way, but still, he'd be a returning character for those who read the other Buffy comics.

Well, I'd rather it be, if it's a returning character, one that was relatively insignificant at the time, rather than a Big Bad back, especially Adam, who really wasn't that interesting. Especially since Adam wouldn't really make sense with the Up With People vibe of Twilight's agenda. It's what they did with the First in Season 7, brought it back from a single episode appearance.

              Here's a list of possibles --

              1. Mystery Man (3.17 "Enemies" -- he clearly wasn't a 'good' kind of guy)
              2. Doc (5.17 "Forever", 5.21 "The Weight of the World", 5.22 "The Gift")
              3. D'Hoffryn (3.16 "Dopplegangland", 4.09 "Something Blue", 6.16 "Hell's Bells", 7.05 "Selfless")
              4. Dracula (5.01 "Buffy vs. Dracula")

Here's a couple of much more abstract possibilities --

              5. Ben (Glory somehow infused him with enough of her power to make him effectively Glory-Lite, and he's pissed)
              6. On a similar note, one of Glory's brothers/sisters
              7. Super-powered and evil Riley, maybe?

              Just throwing stuff out there.

Wasn't Doc killed by Buffy? (Thrown off the building)? He doesn't have the super strength that Buffy Glory or Spike had to survive a fate.

That demon looks strikingly similar.. I'm starting to think Thomas is on to something.. Joss is smart with his words.. we have to take everything into consideration.. maybe that means non-canon stuff.

If he indeed is from the show.. I still am clueless. Whoever it would be... they had to change.

I could see evil crazy Riley being the mastermind of Twilight... I guess. I dunno. I like the idea of new character.

Doc survived a sword through the gut, so I am assuming he might have survived a fall.

Another interesting thing is maybe it's a character from Angel.. I am not familar enough to know any...

However, where is there a graveyard near? It's strange how they're fighting in a graveyard.. Will Sunnydale be involved ?

Sunnydale is a hole in the ground, so that graveyard is presumably just one in Scotland that Buffy or other Slayers might patrol.

I'm just guessing at theories that would involve existing characters. Pulled evil Riley out of my butt. I have no idea what existing character they would use that wouldn't seem pretty sketchy.

So is the fact that it is a returning character.. will this change your love for the new season?

Not at all... it's just too well-written to be upset by it. I don't think Joss will go with overt lameness. There are ways to do an existing character without lameness, and he'll find one if he is using an existing character.

Doc totally survived that fall. He was a demon, he survived a sword through the gut, and Spike survived the fall, so I don't see why Doc couldn't have. Also, in the shot of Buffy's body, Doc should still have been visable if he was down there, which he wasn't.

To me, the big bad in that pic looks like Jason Voorhees.

I can't stop staring at this cover. That is one scary looking Big Bad. I love the title being a call back to Buffy's guess at the Twilight symbol, and that the fight seems to be taking place at sunset.

                                  Excellent cover.

As weird as it sounds I'm glad Buffy is going to get her arse kicked, or so it appears, by this new big bad. It sets up a foe who is going to pose a serious threat to the slayers and it is something I want to see. I'm assuming the Big Bad is leader of Twilight, and it appears it will not be Roden which I'm very happy about.

The cover is brilliant as always, can't wait to get my hands on this issue. Though I suspect the next three issues are going to blow my mind.

Locke's not bright enough to organize Twilight. Someone would tell him that he can't just make the BHC explode by thinking about it, he'd get pissy and say "don't tell me what I can't do", then go walk around the island until he finds himself or some bystander gets killed

Actually, I've only seen the first 8 odd eps of Lost...got bored after that. But I think the actor would be good to play whoever's the head of this mysterious entity.

Or the dude who plays Jed Bartlet. Now THAT would be a chilling crossover...Jed and co have decided Buffy is UnAmerican after much hearty banter along the corridors.

I'm itching to find out who's behind it. But I almost don't want to speculate. I find that when I do that then I'm never satisfied with the real answer, because you build such fantastic worlds of possibility, and reducing it to a single answer never quite hits the spot. Like the reveal of Satsu, it was like "oh, is that it?"
