So far, it's the best content in the Buffyverse since Season 3 of Buffy, or at the very least since Season 5.

Definetly! I really love it. For the writers, it's a never ending budget so they have fun with it so it's made really well and written really well.. and the story line is so good so far.. I can't be happier with it.

Yes, I do. There are some plot points I didn't like, then again that can be said about the older seasons. I love the roles of some characters that were neglected on the show, like Xander and Giles. It's nice to see them shine here.

On the evidence of what I've read so far, no. But we'll see what develops later on in the series.

I do love it, but for me it moves a little too slow... nature of comics, I guess.

My other thought is that in a way, yes, BtVS on TV was all a bit out of this world, demons, etc, but Joss created a well rounded enough world to make that okay and make it real in spite of the fantasy elements.

The comic aspect has it a lot larger than life- no budget to content with impacting on storyline means it also has more chance to go a bit nuts, a bit more out of this world, and so more chance to get further away from the mission statement of "I'm just a girl, but I can be kick-ass."

It's okay. It's not up to the show's standards by any means, but by now I'm so starved for Buffy that I'll take what I can get.

I'm loving it. Honestly I didn't love the first issue, but I think this was because of the exposition which I suppose was needed. But also to be fair the only comic books I've read are season 8, Fray, couple of badly written Angel comics and some of the Buffy omnibus'.
It's as good as most of the seasons..

I'd put it ahead of Season 6, 7, and 1 without even thinking about it so far. Season 4 is a close call still.

                    I voted yes.

I wish I could buy the comics but there isn't a comic store anywhere in my area. Is there a way to subscribe to them by mail?

At least I can see the pic previews and read the transcripts here.

I'm already enjoying how its going now.

You can order them by mail through TFAW.com, but I don't know if you can subscribe or have to do it every month.

Glad the transcripts are helping you stay up to date

I think the writing is good for the most part, but some of the show's intimacy is lost between the over-the-top action scenes, some of the universe gets bloated by the golems and the supergear and the helicopters, some of the jokes fall flat without the actors to give voice to them... The "scripts" may have been better than, say, Season 7 onscreen, but on paper? Nup.

I'm loving season 8. I think it has captured the essence of the show which was somewhat lacking in the later years. Sure it is bigger and more flash now, but I don't think Joss has jumped the shark of anything like that. We had the giant Mayor snake, hundreds of Turok Han, dragons, Willow flying.. all in the show, so I don't think anything we've seen thus yet has been too out of what we'd seen before.

I can hear the actors saying the lines in my head, their voices have been captured so well and I'm loving the various facial expressions which give you an insight into what the characters are feeling and thinking. I'm also enjoying the setting, what appealed to me a lot about the earlier seasons was the gothic feel to the show with the musky old library, Angel's mansion, the older Sunnydale high and lots of time spent in crypts and cemeteries. I liked it better to the more flashy and modern sets in later years, and I think the Scottish castle is recapturing that cool balance again.

I'm liking it more than I ever thought I would. I was not a comic book fan to begin with but I have enjoyed the story so far.

It's evoking the same "fears" and "anticipations" that the show brought about each week - because this is canon and there are so many more possibilities in comics!

I voted no. I find the art so coarse and ugly that however hard I try I can't see the beloved characters behind those unrecognizable faces And the plot so far, to my opinion, is ridiculous and doesn't feel like Buffy at all.

I have to admit though, I grew up in a country where comic publishing industry never existed so I'm not used to this kind of media. Maybe that is the reason why this whole new season has become such a disappointment to me, I don't know.

I would come down heavily n favour of the comics.

I think as a lot of people have said they seem to have that certain indefinable 'Buffyness' about them which has been missing from my life for soooo long. There is a lot to the comics; a sharpness of writing, especially in the dialogue; a total familarity with established characters blended with some intriguing new ones and an attention to detail that means you can find new things and little in-jokes long after the first read.

The wait is agonising, especially when i cna't get to the shop straight away but that too brings back that feeling of expectation i first experience on watching the show on telly.

The only downside for me is the shortness of each issue. Something a little more substantial in regards to the actual content would have been perfect. Still, theres always trade paperbacks to invest in when they surface.

So it's not just me then. Thank god for that. I so agree about the plots as well. Very 'odd' to say the least.

I don't think it's not having a 'history' with the medium love. I was brought up on both English and American style comics, and I don't think season 8 is all it could be.

I like the season storywise, but I'm getting the impression that most of the writers and painters don't know much about women and haven't spent a whole lot of time watching BtVS, at least not recently. Joss can only babysit the others so much without counting on them to take care of some Buffy stuff on their own.

Do you mean just the people drawing or the people writing the comics as well? Because Joss wrote the first 5 and it's only been the last 2 that haven't been written by him. I kind of like the artwork, some of the covers in particular have been pretty amazing (re: the most recent cover with Giles, the first Faith cover, and the first Buffy cover were awesome likenesses.)

As far as the plots being ridiculous as someone else said, I agree to a small degree. The whole plot for the first 4 issues felt rushed to me and kind of all over the place
                                      Spoiler:
(weird dreams with Ethan Rayne of all people, Amy + Warren as the Big Bads, flying Willow, etc)
but I enjoyed it nonetheless. I am enjoying the Faith arc more though, and I liked The Chain better than The Long Way Home as well.
No power in the 'verse can stop me.
