  • Whiskeytown in Buffy

Just wondering if anyone else noticed that the cover for Whiskeytown's "Stranger's Almanac" album crops up ridiculously often in Buffy?

For those who don;t know who they are, Whiskeytown was Ryan Adams' original band and one of the first big successes of the alt-country scene.

I have seen the album cover being used as a poster since the middle of the second season up to the end of the third season on an extremely regular basis. It's been literally everywhere: beside the expresso bar, around the school, on lockers, and even in Giles cage in the library.

They haven't played on the show to my knowledge but there is obviously some link that the free PR they recieved lasted for well over a year? Does anyone have any info?

I love Ryan Adams, but my personal favorite album is "Love Is Hell"

Hotel Chelsea Nights is probably my favorite Ryan Adams song.

That really contributed toward the thread.

Anyway, I'd say it could be that the set makers needed some posters to make them feel more authentic and just took whatever they got, they received them in bulk and just never took them down, although it's interesting that none of their songs were ever played if they allowed their poster to be used.

The fact they never played the Bronze or had any of their songs played during the show (to my knowledge - only watching the show for the first time and at the end of S3) strikes me as unusual. Maybe it was just a set designer or something who loved them. Thought there might have been a bigger connection.

I feel it was probably someone who favored them and maybe even thought it funny to use them over and over. Maybe they tried to get them on the show, we'll never know i guess. Good observations though!
