    Tech note:

    YouTube is - finally - moving to downloadable higher-quality content. You can grab an MPEG (Advanced Video/Audio Coding) version of the lower-quality streaming content thusly:
    1. Navigate to the YouTube page as usual, then switch to HTML display (View->Source or similar)

    2. Locate the "swfArgs" script parameters

    3. Construct the download URL as
      http://www.youtube.com/get_video?video_id=[video_id]&t=[t]&fmt=18
      where the two [parameters] are the quoted values found in step 2, e.g.
      var swfArgs = {
      "vq": null,
      "video_id": "mnUvZP7-5LM",
      "l": 216,
      "sk": "RkshxHoX9nAxO-3pW_kkgohw-UwVBYenC",
      "fmt_map": "",
      "t": "OEgsToPDskJ9B6whZ4o0i8XbzZiC6yvy",
      "hl": "en",
      "plid": "AARTiF2caRbnQsJzAAACgAA4QAA"
      };
    4. Paste into address bar and save as ".mp4"

    For thishere video, the resultant link is http://www.youtube.com/get_video?video_id=mnUvZP7-5LM&t=OEgsToPDskJ9B6whZ4o0i8XbzZiC6yvy&fmt=18

    NB: Yes, this is all perfectly legit, the reason you have to do it manually is that it's in a beta (testing) stage at the moment.

    ETA: The signature ("t") seems to change periodically, the above link is already invalid. Probably to keep people from creating static hotlinks.

      See that looked pretty cool. And you can't even tell Giselle Loren plays Buffy and not Sarah Michelle Gellar.

      I think if we got a few DTV movies of the animated series, it'd be pretty cool. I don't know how I would feel about an animated series (that would be more based towards kids). Also, what was up with the glowing vampire?

        I know others have said this and will say this but: I think I just creamed myself.

        It was so completely awesome, and would've attracted the people who didn't like the later seasons. The slaying jokes and Giselle Loren's voice were a bit iffy but the library scene was like rapture. It captured the series perfectly, while giving it a cartoony twist. My favourite part must be the shot wth Willow that changes focus to Xander and then Buffy, it perfectly encapsulates the whole love circle they had. Giles was much funnier and it his mocking speech was reminscent of his 'The Prom' dialogue.

        I'm curious as to how the series would've gone. It's clear that Dawn would've been there and it'd be set during s1, but how much time would pass? Would it go into the later seasons or just sorta stay in s1 or s1-3? How would it run in parallel to the seasonal arcs later on?

          From what I read over the years, the plan was to always keep it in the high school years. Oz was to appear down the road, as well as Spike and Drusilla. I think just keeping it in the High School years would allow them to keep that "timeless" feeling alot of cartoons had.

          I know Amber Benson had spoken about wanting to be part of the series, but if she had been I doubt she would have been Tara, but most likely another high school student.

          I would have loved the animated series, cause Amy could have gotten SO much more screen time, along with Harmony.

            Eeek, that would've been majorly confusing!

              But cool none the less!

              I wonder if Andrew would have been in any episode. Or the dude from "Conversations with Dead People". It would have been really cool to see Andrew and the flying monkeys, it would work PERFECTLY animated!

                Holy crapowski! That was bloody brilliant.

                I mean, as far as animated shows go, it would've seriously worked. I didn't get the whole glowing vampire thing, but overall it was great, I loved the entrance of Buffy, it was as if you could imagine Buffy actually doing that in the show. In my opinion they brought the vampire look across well, the only gripes I have are that the school's library didn't look like the actual one (which may have been changed if it'd been actually turned into a show) and that we didn't get to see Cordelia, Angel, Dawn or Joyce.

                I would've loved for this show to actually have happened, but it does seem kind of like it's aimed at a younger audience than the actual show.

                  That's amazing, can't believe someone actually got their hands on it! I thought it was great, the drawings were quite well done and though not SMG, Loren's voice wasn't half bad at all.

                  It would have been brilliant if they could have done an animated season eight, but still I'm loving this I can't believe they didn't go ahead with it

                    That was GREAT!!! It would have been so much fun to watch!!

                    Was that Alyson Hannigan's voice? I'm pretty sure about Giles and Xander - and Giselle Loren's voice iiiiiiiissss...ok.

                      Yup that was Alyson's voice

                      I think Loren's voice is ok when Buffy's making quips ect. It'd be interesting to see if she could pull it off in a more silent and slow-paced scene.

                          Um, I don't want to sound like an idiot, but I'm confused. It wasn't amazing in the least, IMO. It wasn't bad, but I thought it was really cheesy, especially since it's a, ya know....cartoon. The glowing vampires, Buffy's voice, and some lines sounded really bad, and I didn't think that was Hannigan either. It sounded like a different actress

                          I don't think it was bad, but I don't think it's anywhere near as good as people are making is out to be.

                            People always sound a bit different when doing non-lip-synched voice-overs. It's just a... thing.

                              I think the issue is Alyson doesn't have the right voice for animation. Some people do, and others don't. Though I am glad we actually have Alyson and not the girl from Chaos Bleeds... that was painfull... very painful

                                yeah, it's a cartoon-that's the point. It's going to be more accessible to kids. I thought buffy's voice was akward at first, but then after hearing her talk awhile it fit. She sounds like buffy.
                                This is a 3 and a half minute clip. Imagine a whole episode, or the entire series. THAT is why it got me excited.

                                  Now, I'm a little biased here, because I have *never* liked cartoons. Pokemon is as far as I've ever gone, and that was when I was 9/10, so that can be discounted. So bear that in mind with my following opinion!

                                  I'm not a fan. I think it looks too unrealistic (yeah, I know, the point of a cartoon, but still, the library looks about 50 feet tall). I don't think there's enough attention to detail, and the voices are pretty off for my liking. I don't think it captures the essence of the show, and I was immediately confused as to when it's supposed to be! Is this canon? Ie the in-between episodes of the stuff we didn't see in earlier seasons? Also didn't twig that Buffy was Buffy until she started speaking.

                                  Sorry!

                                    Considering those were the voices of anthony stewart head, alyson hanigan and nicholas brendon, I don't see how their voices could've been off to you. It's in the HIGH SCHOOL library-takes place in season one. And personally I was pleasantly surprised with the animation. I don't think it looks bad at all-kind of perfect actually. The library being "50 feet tall" is just to make it more dramatic & iconic because the library was such an important setting in the original show.

                                      Continuity:
                                      Canonical issues
                                      The potential canonical status of the series is unknown. It can be seen that changes were to be made to what had been established. For example, the Sunnydale High School library was radically changed in initial artwork.

                                      Timing
                                      The series would have taken place late in Buffy Season 1. Loeb described the continuity as "Episode 7.5" It was also confirmed that the series would be set in the altered continuity that the characters remembered due to the introduction of Dawn Summers into their lives, meaning Dawn would have a role in the story.

                                        Now that I'm interested in; I've always wanted to see what their view of events was in their memories - i.e. with Dawn!

                                        I found the voices off as in I didn't feel the voices and the mouth movements lined up properly - was very off-putting! Plus I just didn't feel that the characters would have said what they were saying - the conversation felt very stunted to me.
