  • What's up with Willow's outfit?!

Seriously, Jeanty has Willow down to a T when it comes to portraying her face. It's usually exactly like looking at Alysson Hannigan! So whyyy does he draw her in the same damn puke-green dress every issue?! Does she not have different sets of outfits? She wears the green dress, or something strikingly similar in both color and appearance for every issue! Has anyone else noticed this? Is it for dramatic effect when she's flying (Which she seems to do all the time these days)? Put the girl in some pants! I love what she wears on the TPB cover of "The Long Way Home"! Also, her hair is ten times prettier there than it is in the comic - she's gone season 7 again, with the dreadful bangs, only shorter. I'm not pleased.

But, I am however extremely pleased with the entire season, I just wish Jeanty didn't portray Willow as this dull New Age hippie, t's all.

Willow was wearing pants in #8, which I admit was the most natural outfit she had worn.

At least Willow changes her clothes. Look at Xander, only time he changed his outfit was when he wore the ducky PJs.

It's just customary. And especially in these books, where fans are so often (and I think unreasonably) claiming not to be able to recognize characters, consistent clothing is just another way to let the reader identify who the characters are without being pulled out of the story.

Why Willow's default outfit became "Once More, With Feeling", though, I have no idea. It's not like she stayed with that look. She showed a wide range of sartorial tastes in Season 7, jeans in the first three episodes, a skirt only Season 1 Buffy would have gotten away with in "Selfless" (heh, compare her "Selfless" outfit to the one she was afraid to wear in "Halloween" -- how our girl has grown).

I don't mind Xander's uniform being, well... uniform. Plus that wool coat in 8.14 was just badass. Need more of the Nick Fury/Jason Bourne Xander look.

Haha well Willow's fashion is technically Tara's fashion these days, which you know... sucked. Sorry Tara! But I guess it's just a shout out to Tara so we know she still thinks about her a lot, but I don't think she's worn the same outfit everyone issue has she?

I've got the current arc comics next to the computer at the moment, so let's check:

8.12: Ankle-length flowing green skirt, white cardigan-type thing with buttons at the front and a floral pattern (red roses) on the labels and cuffs, over a green-grey long-sleeved shirt.

8.13: Brown calf-length skirt, green cape-like sleeved jacket with a single button at the collar over a brown t-shirt.

Later that issue: apparently the same skirt, but a furry black coat.

8.14: Green calf-length skirt with a floral pattern in darker green; pale green sweater with star patterns scattered over the front.

Later that issue: same outfit but with a tan-coloured jacket over it.

Later that issue: green skirt which may or may not be the same one, plus a brown bodice over a green t-shirt. (Continuity error alert: that t-shirt is short-sleeved on one page and long-sleeved on the next )

Conclusion: All of Willow's clothing is following a very definite Renfair 'Earth Goddess' style these days, but she is actually changing her outfit every issue and sometimes mid-issue.

Well, to quote myself "She wears the green dress, or something strikingly similar in both color and appearance for every issue!", and seems I was right. Her outfits are so alike in both shape and color. Have her in something bright red or purple, that'd be cool!

Anyway, let's take this topic onto hair:

Willow: Not good at all. I would have expected it to be much longer and strait, and without the bangs.
Buffy: Cute, but also expected it to be longer and not tied back or braided/ponytailed so much.
Xander: Cool. He looks good with this lenght.
              Dawn: Beautiful.
Giles: Sort of the same as ever, isn't it? T's cool.
Faith: Season 3. A tad flat I think. Would love to see her with a more volumous hairstyle, and not that dark.
Andrew: Same as ever - glad he didn't go with the long hair from "Angel".

I want Joss to draw Susannah and Trinny into one issue so they can rip Willow a new one over her sartorial disasters. They could do a "What not to wear: the witch edition".
