  • Chosen... Alternative Ending

So i was surfing for quotes actually, but i managed to stumble upon the alternative ending for Chosen.
I know, shock, horror... hehe sorry i didnt know it existed -blushes-

Anyway, i love Chosen, and the thought of it being any different is just sacrilege to me. So i'm so relieved they scrapped this ending.
I don't like the Dawn bit especially.
However, i do like the image of a hand reaching out from the rubble at the end... it sort of leads nicely into the season 8 comics. And there are some bits that might have worked really nicely with the previous plotlines.

So here's the link, i just wanted to see what anyone else thought of it

Seeing as the only really demonstrable change of this (as far as I can tell, completely inauthentic) alternative ending is killing off Xander, a decision Joss had already been talked out of breaking "Dirty Girls". Since Xander is at his narrative best right now in Season 8, sounds like a pretty crappy trade.

I like the *idea* of a story that nailed down Dawn having more to do or even tied the end of Season 4/start of Season 5 mysteries about the Slayer mythos up with the First, but since neither was plot relevant, even in the context of the episode in which they're being introduced, that's reason enough for me to think that A) the actual televised version was better, and B) I really doubt Joss wrote this.

Haha, i thought that might have been a rather high possiblity.

I just wanted to indulge the fantasy of some of the plotlines it was looking to complete. Although it does offer some sort of closure, the televised version is far better in that it left things open. Not many main characters died, and even then there's always a chance of ressurection - as seen with Spike.
I also think the twists the alternative were offering were a bit unnecessary.

      thanks for the speedy reply!
i have a tendency to think my threads are a bit stupid... hehe.

There have been interesting alternate episodes before as well -- there was an alternate version of "The Gift" out there, attributed (incorrectly) to Joss, in which... basically everybody gets killed. I think Giles, Dawn, and either Anya or Xander were the only survivors. But, it was very creative.

The Season 8 relevance of this alternate really depends on whose hand it is Xander's? Amy's?

It quite nice to know that someone has an active enough imagination to think them up, hehe. But that is one i'd like to read...

I read the first comic really quickly in Borders (i couldn't afford it, heh), but am i right in thinking the government found Amy in the ruins of Sunnydale?
          So perhaps it was hers.
It wouldn't really run with the Xander story.

So whoever wrote this probably weren't as creative as they liked to have thought. Some of the dialogue is rather laughable. (Joyce: "Curds and whey, Buffy. End of days.") I can't imagine Joyce saying curds and whey, granted it is the First, but you'd think it'd want to be more realistic in order to stick the knife in. That's it's usual behaviour anyway. And the repitition of 'end of days' is a bit indulgent.

I don't like the idea of killing the main characters off but it may have paid the whole 'dire situation' the Scoobies faced off a bit more. In hindsight, only one character (Anya - a major character? questionable...) died. Is that enough?

Yeah this has been circulating for years by someone I believed named "spikesvamp" or something similar. it's popped in and out of being noticed, but it's definitely a work of fan fiction. a fantastic one, but a fan work regardless.

I remember reading this a while back and in many ways it sounded like a fan fiction. I think it was a pretty good fan fiction.

Maybe it's Carrie's? What? If Joss can crossover with Fray, why not Carrie She could fit nicely in the Jossverse....

Re alternative versions, I was intrigued (and appalled too!) by the idea of Xander being the host for Glory instead of Ben, and Giles having to kill Xander. It's just too nasty...but at the same time, has a certain painful genius to it. It'd only work if Xander had no idea about it, or only found out at the end (and perhaps asked Giles to kill him...oh god...). Actually, no, it's too much. But interesting anyway. Can't remember where I read about it.

Yeah I think automatically you have evidence this is fanfiction when Joss apparently planned to use so many old actors in the episode, when he didn't have the money to bring them on the show all season
