  • Give nerds something to sing about

This is a slightly sly thread, as I'm looking for ideas to steal...but then, by admitting that, does it make it less sly?

Anyway, I was wondering what you think...if the nerds had sung a song in season 6, or if any of them had sung a song individually...what do you think they would have sung about?

My ulterior motive being I was going to have a go at writing a song by one or all of the nerds as a "missing scene" from OMWF (like the "I'm his Mrs" song in Selfless. Only, you know, probably not as awesome).

Any ideas? Of both what they'd sing about and what style they'd sing it in? My first thought is a Noel Coward style ballad for Andrew about his secret love for Warren. But, want more ideas! Preferably something in a musical style that it wouldn't be too hard to pastiche on the piano (so, rap probably out!).

This may sound pretty lame, but I figured that if they did have a song, it more than likely be about how Buffy keeps "foiling their plans" and they'd already be rid of her if it weren't for "those children" [The Scoobies, in this case. Not exactly kids, are they?]

Maybe not that lame. But surely there'd be a lot of Star Trek and Lord of the Rings references. I .. could also picture badly put together outfits of certain bad guys that the three would magically appear in while doing their number.
Yeah, I'm not so good at this. :P

Definitely lord of the rings refs (and other nerdy stuff)! Maybe could have something where they're ostensibly singing about evil plans/being evil masterminds, but each of them breaks off into their own verses (that the others can't hear) about their fears and insecurities? Hearing about Warren's inner life could be WAY disturbing though!

Maybe an "At the Ballet" type number ("Chorus Line"), where they each sing the poignant details of the geekish origins and how they find something empowering about being villains.

The lyrics would definitely be overdosed with pop-culture references. And free cable porn.

I picture the tune to be a breed of the upbeat of "I'll Never Tell" and the sinister of "What You Feel."

Their life and how much their plans suck. Or, ya know, about girls. And maybe Johnathan or Andrew admitting that they think Buffy is seriously hot. I mean, you know they all want girls they can't get from "Dead Things". Also, many, many pop references. I think that would be the majority of the song, honestly.

maybe lyrics about being evil set to the imperial march. lol.

perhaps something in the vein of lock, shock and barrel's "sandy claws" song about capturing santa claus ("nightmare before christmas"). they could sing about all their plans for buffy... in a really nerdy way with pop-culture references to sci-fi weaponry.

"If there is no great glorious end to all this, if nothing we do matters, then all that matters is what we do."
"Nothing in the world is the way it ought to be. It's harsh and cruel. But that's why there's us. Champions."

I'm kind of picturing an "I'll Never Tell"-talked-out type song; basically how the majority is sung, then you have those one or two offbeat, semi-out of place lines that just "happen" to rhyme with whatever the next character was going to sing. Also gotta agree with everyone else on all the nerdy pop references. You might also wanna throw in a little bit of things the Scoobies have done to them? For example, Spike's threatening to destroy Boba Fett LOL. I'm also picturing each character singing to a slightly different tune... the same song with almost the same melody, but just a tad off to differentiate between the nerds Sorry LOL, rambles.

Anywhoooo... I love this idea, Wolfie Gilmore! Rather creative of you

Thanks for the ideas guys, keep 'em coming. If I manage to get it written, I'll try and record it and post an mpeg on livejournal or something (once Ive sorted out the tech!).
