I am wondering what do you all think of how much synder really knew becasue in the episode hard school he says to that guy at the end what do you think we should do tell them the truth ?

Then at the end of an episode of season 2 can't remember name he says to someone it won't be long before people realize we live on top of the hellmouth. So does anyone have any view on his role since he knew more than he was letting on i belive he could have been in legue with the mayor in season 3 maybe

Snyder was very inconsistently written about things supernatural, and they killed him off before we got any real concrete answers about him. In "School Hard"*, he clearly has some notion about vampires and his agenda against Buffy at least implies he was aware that she was significant, at least to the Mayor. But, he also seems completely naive about these things in "Choices".

    * the episode title is a play on the movie "Die Hard", from which the basic plot is lovingly taken.

      I don't know.

I think he was in denial, just like the most of the people in Sunnydale.
Ik think he knew deep down that there was more, but he lied to others (and maybe himself?). He saw enough to know what was going on.

Let's not forget he also knew that the high school was on a Hellmouth ("I Only Have Eyes for You.")

I think he was just like all Sunnydale residents: he knew what was going but couldn't rationalize it. He was also clearly threatened by the Mayor, which kept Snyder's mouth shut from spilling the beans.

I've seen School Hard many times, and I'm amazed this never dawned on me. It kinda seems obvious now, but it doesn't help I've never seen the original Die Hard.

Seeing "Die Hard" is like seeing "Blade Runner" -- you have to see it just to embrace just how badly everything ever since has ripped it off.

At least with "School Hard", it was an homage. And, also, an honest name -- school was hard in the B plot, too

Every great show has to do it's Die Hard episode. I still remember "Die Hard on the Enterprise-D"

That would be exactly the one I'm referring to, major.

"School Hard" was named after it, since the plot itself -- our hero, trapped alone in an environment taken over by the bad guys, sneaking around trying to thwart them -- is an homage to the movie.

Yeah, he seems to know something but maybe he was in denial. Or maybe he knew only the basics, like Sunnydale is on a Hellmouth with demons and Buffy summers needs to be taken out. Maybe they (perhaps the Mayor) gave him that only piece of information and decided he shouldn?t know anything else or else he would tell someone else or even freak out. The Mayor depended on him to have order in Sunnydale. Or maybe he was lying in "Choices", so he wouldn?t blow his cover and reveal too much. There are a lot of choices here, but honestly this doesn?t bother me much.

Lets not forget Synder was in some denial about the Mayor as well. He wants his respect so bad but at the same time, particularly towards the end of s3, we see that Synder knows the Mayor is planning something bad but doesn't act on it.
