  • Once More With Feeling- Songs & Singers

Ok so first of all ill start by saying it was an absolutley fantastic episode!!!!...

Great acting.... and hu knew they had those voices eh ? !

lol... so anyway i was just thinking about tht particular episode

and was wondering what peoples faviorate songs would be and why ?

Do they mean anything to you ?

Myne would have to be Walk through the fire' because buffy just lets all her emotions go you know.. and explains to us why she is feeling that way...

    but anyway theres myne
    share ?

    Much Love x

Mine would also be 'Walk Through the Fire' followed closely by 'Life is a song' up until the final moments, sorry Spike fans but I have to say I found him repeating the word "living" in the same tone really annoying. But yeah 'Walk Through the Fire' is my favourite, it has every one singing and you really get a great insight into how Buffy is feeling.

"Wish I Could Stay/Under Your Spell" Reprise is the best, to me. The two best singers in the cast and the melancholy. Plus, Tara having unguarded *anger* over something ("I can't adjust to this disgust, we're done") is so rare that it is to be savored.

most impressive voices: tony head, james marsters, emma caulfield
best songs: standing, rest in peace, walk through the fire, i'll never tell

amber benson's voice is overrated, imo.

and that "glittering world" line makes me shudder every time. gak.

"If there is no great glorious end to all this, if nothing we do matters, then all that matters is what we do."
"Nothing in the world is the way it ought to be. It's harsh and cruel. But that's why there's us. Champions."

Oh,, so hard for me to choose..but I'll say "I'm under your spell" this song just touches my heart.Tara's feeling about Willow, it's so lovely and poetic. Also "Rest in peace" is in my top list
Then "Walk through the fire", Life's a Show, I'll never tell(funny)..I love every song, they're so enjoyable imo

Yes! Under Your Spell. The song that impressed me firstly and deeply. It's really touching and Tara's voice is awesome so that's another plus. Yes like Selen, also Rest in Peace.. fun to sing this song, trying to sing like James Marsters but I never did the right so that's also one.... There are lots..

              1. Walk Through The Fire, group song, good melody.
              2. I agree Benson/Head duet, really pretty.
              3. I have a theory cause it has some really different styles and Anya rocks in it.
              4. In the way, really smooth and deep.
              5. I'm under your spell, sweet and funny.

Either "Wish I Could Stay" or "Walk Through The Fire". Probably "Wish I Could Stay" because Amber and Anthony have such pretty voices! I just love duets and their voices match perfectly. Also, what great lyrics!

I gotta pick a favorite? Really? Okay, then, my abso fave would have to be "Standing"...all the way through to the duet w/ Amber. I don't know exactly what it is about this song, but I just can't miss it anytime I listen to the soundtrack. There's so much emotion in the music & lyrics...you can hear Giles' struggle w/ the conclusions he's coming to. And then we throw in Tara and the deception...ooo, pulls at the heartstrings.

However, I just have a blast w/ "Going Through the Motions", "Rest In Peace" & "What You Feel"...they're just so fun to sing along to.
                  It's blood...It's just like mine.
It doesn't matter where you came from or how you got here.

                  You are my sister.

I adore Buffy's mini-song "What can't we face if we're together". The words are naive, they don't correspond with Buffy's state of mind, but the melody is magical. The whole moment is magical. The change of the minor to major key and back to minor. The change from funny song to heartfelt ballad. The change from trained voices (ASH, Emma Caulfield) to SMG's untrained - yet incredibly appealing! - voice. She sounds as a person who has really started singing for the first time in her life. She starts and other join in. Incredible moment.

Plus, as a Spuffy, I adore "Rest in Peace" and the scene in Bronze with Spike saving Buffy from death.

My favourite is an easy choice.. "Wish I Could Stay/Under Your Spell Reprise". Because I personally can kind of relate to the lyrics, and theyre just really deep and meaningful. Also becasue Amber has such a beautiful voice, and it sounds amazing with Anthony's voice.

I can honestly say that "walk through the fire" is the one for me. I allways find my slef humming it. I pretty much like all of them but if i have to choose it's this one.

OMWF had gotta be the best musical ever.....from the writing, songs, to the acting I just love it. Standing/Under Your Spell reprise has got to be my favourite as well. As others have said ASH and Amber's voices really compliment one another and it's quite an emotional song....the words really help to show the conflict they are both going through.

But I also like Walk Through The Fire, Under Your Spell, I've Got A Theory, hell I like the whole album.

But the burning question is.......Why isn't anyone voting for The Mustard Song. Classic!!!

What he said - the harmonies are beautiful, and the similar-but-contrasting feelings of the two "grown up" scooby characters (Tara being more Dawn's mum than Buffy is during much of season 6, and offering a lap for Buffy's tears too). I agree, seeing Tara losing her rag is powerful - and perhaps hints at more anger than she ever dares show bubbling under the surface? After all, with an arsehole of a dad like she has, she must have a bit of the old repressed rage going on. Actually, more than an arsehole dad...the brother and the cousin are equally awful. Her mum must've been a pretty nice lady to counterbalance all that cruelty and prejudice.

But, Tara's mum, off topic...the song itself is heart-rending, in a subtle way. It's the pain of the people on the sidelines, who don't get the big triumphal show tune number, or the firey drama. They get to express their hurt from the sidelines.

I think my favourite full-length song is probably...actually, I find it very hard to choose. "Life's a show" is great for its "I think I was in heaven" revelation moment, and Spike's little interruption and his lame joke about "so one of us is living"...somehow the bad joke is poignant in the context, but also reveals how he wants to try and bring it all back to him and Buffy as a couple ("one of us is living"...ie there's an us to be one of). It sums up his character in season 6, I think. The ways he helps Buffy, but also the ways he hurts her by trying to keep her with him.

But Buffy's opening number, also great - funny and sad together. I particularly like "How can I repay/whatever" (wonder what happened to the himbo in it?), and the "nothing seems to penetrate my heart" moment with the staking - getting back to the metaphor basis of vampires as metaphors for nasty teenage experiences.

In terms of lyrics, "Rest in Peace" is really interesting, but I don't like the tune all that much. I wish they'd given him either a punk number, or something me surprising...something to equal Angel's Barry Manillow obsession for embarassing music taste revelations. Maybe a really cheesy ballad a la Les Miserables... I bet Spike secretly loves musicals.

That one was especially cool because of the triple meaning: 1) Buffy's emotionally distant, 2) (probably read too much into this) maybe she's frustrated that now she really doesn't want to live, there's no big bad anymore like Glory to come and kill her, 3) when combined with the random tied-up guy it's kind of Freudian.

Anyway, I really like Walk Through the Fire because of the three-part harmony bit leading up to the final chorus, and also for the poignant visuals. The angle and birds-eye shots of Buffy walking down the alley will stay with me a long time. It gives everyone a good line and the music is powerful in itself.

Life's a Show is also a favorite, because of the contrast between Buffy's emotions and the light, upbeat major key song as well as the bright setting and visual composition. The fact that she's forced to sing like this when she's really suicidal adds another measure of cruelty and twistedness to the whole thing.

Plus the Standing-Under Your Spell reprise for obvious reasons.

                              I wouldn't be surprised, considering William's "theatre-geek-infested roots" ...
Buffy: It sounds like it's difficult for you. Maybe your sister makes it hard for you to establish your own identity. You said she's controlling, she doesn't let you make your own decisions -
Dawn: Yeah, and she borrows my clothes without asking.

Even though the episode is often regarded as cheesy and the songs sorta silly and ridiculous, I was and still am very affected by "Life's a Show." The whole theme and just, what she's going through have always touched me. "work so hard all day, to be like other girls, to fit in in this glittering world, don't give me songs, give me something to sing about." It really has a depressing theme if you consider the lyrics. I think it really represented a lot of what season 6 was about and what a lot of people go through.

I think all of them are really good songs. But if I had to choose one of them,I would choose Going Through The Motions. Under Your Spell and Rest in peace come next... The reason that I chose g.t.t.m. was that it explains Buffy's whole life and what she feels about it. I think they sounded it well by putting her life in a song. The part that she replies whatever to the guy who says how can I repay was a little bit funny I think! It shows that she didn't care of these things...

Joss Whedon: I just gotta give a thundering shout out to my kids. They inspire me, they make me make them work harder, and they always come through. First time I heard Tony sing it was at a charity function, I was cringing, he was gonna sing "ever breath you take" to a tape, it couldn't go well... ten seconds into it and, in the immortal words of a friend of mine, I think I'm a little gay. He's the golden throat. And James, who always tells me to do everything I dream of, then brings that intense voice and those cheekbones along for the ride... Amber... just, you know... Amber....

I tend to agree with him. I wouldn't label any of the others "bad", though, mainly because I was so proud of them for that undertaking. They could have been dubbed, but no, they all pulled through.

(set made by Francy for me)

I don't think anyone is bad at singing, Well Alyson maybe, only because she didn't really sing enough for me to be able to give good judgement. Amber, Anthony & James are probably the strongest singers, only because both Anthony and James were both experienced, and well Amber...hidden talent much? She rocked. Well anywho, no one sucked in my opinion.
