We had a thread dedicated to this at BW, but that was a long time ago. Now it's time to make new lists and update our opinions on what we consider the top twenty Buffy episodes to ever exist. If you can, try to explain why some of them are your favorites (the usual ones are fine, but the ones people wouldn't expect and your number 1)
Here is my list:
20 The Wish
19 No Place Like Home
18 Dirty Girls
- I absolutely loved this episode the first time I saw it. For season seven, it's a very dark area to approach, and was meant to do that in order to capture the bad guys losing aspect. I loved the reality of the episode, in that people will die and Slayers can make mistakes. Plus, Faith came back... which is always great
17 When She Was Bad
- Another episode I feel is highly underrated and should regarded of a higher status. This episode is probably one of the lowest points I've seen Buffy outside of season six. Whatever kind of dreams she'd been having, they must have been absolutely terrifying. I love the relationships between the characters, and how they mold back together after everything's said and done. I also loved the final scene with The Master's bones. Very moving episode. Great job by Joss.
16 Prophecy Girl
15 Once More, With Feeling
14 Fool For Love
13 The Body
12 Touched
11 After Life
- One of the brilliant episodes of season 6 that once again is overlooked. Aside from Dead Things, probably the darkest episode Buffy's ever gone to. There's hardly any fight scenes, and mostly just dialogue, which I loved. The entire episode was oozing with atmosphere, and Spike's speech is priceless. The final scene combined with all of this proved to be a groundbreaking episode that just misses the top 10.
10 Who Are You?
09 Angel
08 Doppelgangland
07 Helpless
- This episode is surprisingly my favorite of season 3. The reason for this is because I love love LOVED the Giles Buffy interaction, and it showed the love he had for her deep inside him. I think it was one of the most terrifying episodes they've done simply because Buffy is helpless for once. I truely fell in love with this episode after the last time I watched it, and regard it up there with the big ones.
06 Dead Things
- I can't describe in words what I felt when I first saw this episode. At this point, Buffy could have been on HBO if they wanted. Probably darkest hour television I've ever witnessed in my life, and I loved every second of it. The entire season was about bringing characters down to their lowest, and this episode tied an anchor to Buffy's foot. The entire first dialogue with Spike shows Buffy in an entire different context. The balcony scene. The ending scene with Tara. All this plus the Trio's story, there was NOTHING happy about this episode.
05 Conversations With Dead People
04 Becoming (Part II)
03 The Gift
02 Passion
01 Restless
- In my opinion, the best piece of writing Joss has ever delivered. The entire episode is once again oozing with atmosphere, and filled with metaphors and ideas that are to this day still looked upon for future references. Acting is superb, and the dreamscapes make the episode even more of cloudy mysterious episode. Thank you for this episode Joss.
