Aw, I feel bad no one has posted about Dawn

Do you really think dawn would have jumped in the gift and if she had how do you reckon buffy would have coped (spelling?)
I don't honestly think that Dawn should have jumped. It wasn't her fault that she was a ball of bursting energy. BUffy shouldn't have had to jump for her, but I think that it was her last purpose as a slayer before she was brought back. Also, the first slayer said that death was her gift, so it went with the story line.
    Whats your favourite dawn quote?
Dawn: [about Tara] She and Willow are both witches. They do spells and stuff, which is so much cooler than slaying. I told mom one time I wish they'd teach me some of the things they do together. And-and then she got really quiet and made me go upstairs.
That cracks me up everytime I watch the episode.
    What's dawn's best moment?
Hmmm, this is hard. She didn't really get that many. I like her in 'Touched' when she makes Buffy leave. In'Forever' at the very end. Also, in 'The Gift' when she tries to jump. I think that last one is probably her best

    Oz: Hey.
Oz: That girl. Who is she?
Devon: She's an exchange student. I think she's from South America.
Oz: No, not her. The Eskimo!

Dawn deserves some serious respect. She doesn't often get much attention because of the tendency of overshadowing that other major characters have. For a teenage girl who found out she's a ball of energy, she coped pretty well. Some may think that she acted a little drastically, but honestly, if you found out that all your entire existence up until mid-teenage hood was fabricated, how do you think you'd handle it? So, serious points to Dawn.

Do you really think Dawn would have jumped in The Gift and if she had how do you reckon Buffy would have coped?
I believe wholeheartedly that, had Buffy let her, Dawn would have jumped. Ever since she discovered she wasn't who she thought she was (sorry, tad confusing ), she wanted her life to have purpose and meaning. She definitely had the guts to follow through with it if Buffy hadn't sacrificed herself (which would have been a fitting death for her, and I am conflicted on whether or not I think she should have been resurrected. Sorry, small rant).

      Whats your favorite Dawn quote?
When Buffy comes home to discover that Dawn foiled her plan to have Xander kidnap her and take her away from the battle:

      Dawn: Dumbass.

      So eloquent. Love it.
Love isn't brains, children! It's blood, blood screaming inside you to work its will.

        Great idea Spuffy4life!

        Part One
I don't think she would have jumped. I mean, I think she might have looked over the edge and than stepped back. I think she had to let Buffy be the hero, and death was he gift so... If she had jumped, I think that Buffy would have become (pardon my language) a superbitch. By the end of Season Five, even though she really wasn't, Buffy knew Dawn was her sister anyways, and watching her jump probably would have made he become a superslayer, and ignore al boundaries. She would kill to get the job done. And make sure that no one was ever harmed again.

        Part 2
I can't think of one two significant, but i think it's in Season 4's family, when Tara's family tries to take her away and then it gets really cheesy and Buffy is like "You'll have to get through me." Then Dawn comes up and says "And me." Buffy looks at her, then she's like. "She's a hair puller."

        Part 3
I think Dawn's best moment is in Grave when she and Buffy are fighting all the vampires in the collapsed cavern. It's a real bonding time for Buffy and Dawn.

Totally agree. If Dawn had jumped it would have made Buffy go over the edge completely, ( for lack of a better phrase) She had just lost her Mum and to lose her sister as well even if she wasn't really her sister, but a glowy ball of light. But she wouldn't be the same Buffy we know and love. She'd be all business. Stake first ask questions later? possibly.

Favourite episode with Dawn in it?
If you were to pair dawn with any of the Buffy characters who would she be paired with?

Favourite episode with Dawn in it?

It's hard to say. In the 7th season I began to like Dawn, and she became one of my favorite characters. My favorite episode would have to be Empty Places or Grave.

If you were to pair dawn with any of the Buffy characters who would she be paired with?

Given enough time together, I think Xander. From what I have read of the comics so far, it seems to me that it's sort of heading that way, or its hinting something is going to happen. Mostly, I don't like Dawn with anyone of the main group of characters for either show.

I thought that Dawn could have become closer to Mike Helgenberg from the Season 7 episode "Help" after Cassie died. Not necessarily a romantic relationship, but perhaps just a friendship made closer by losing someone they both cared for. Unfortunately there wasn't time in Season 7 to dwell on High School stories.

I think Dawn was entirely ready to jump off the tower herself when Buffy stopped her.

One line that always sticks in my mind is Dawn pleading tearfully with Buffy up on the collapsing tower in S6 "Bargaining Pt. 2":

"You told me I had to be strong ... and I've TRIED.... But it's been so hard without you... I'm sorry. I promise I'll do better, I will! If you're with me. Stay with me ... please. I need you to live. Live! For...

Melodramatic perhaps, and some may think MT was overacting but I for one really felt for Dawn at that moment.

I dunno. I have never thought that she was overacting, but I haven't really watched that episode for a while. For Dawn though, and everything she'd been through and what we'd seen of her so far I think she had a need to be overdramatic. The character of Dawn was already way over the top, so it just worked to have her cross the line. If she hadn't, I don't think Buffy being back and what was happening in the moment would have truly seemed real to her.

BTW, i think it's hard for us all to say if Dawn was overacting. I mean, it's not like we've had a sibling with superpowers die and then come back to life and then try and killing themselves again.

No, I personally would never say Michelle Trachtenberg overacted. Given the number of Dawn detractors there are out there in the Buffy fandom, I was just indirectly acknowledging all the people who complain about her "Get out! Get out! Get out!" scenes and so forth. I love the scene with Dawn and Buffy standing on the tower as it is collapsing in that episode, and I think the shrillness in her plea was done just right.

I like Michelle Trachtenberg generally and try to see things that she is in (although I simply will not watch Gossip Girl,). I think she is a talented actress, and also an accomplished dancer, which she got to show us in OMWF. I do wish there had been more time to see her Dawn character with her mom Joyce. As things turned out we got less than a full season.

And I freely admit that I myself tend to be a big Dawn hater. Dawn the stupid, clumsy plot device, not Michelle Trachtenberg's awesome acting. But, the point has already been made very eloquently by ivory_lines regarding Dawn "handling" her very existence and I whole heartedly agree.

IMHO, a lot of the problem is that JW & company came *very* close to capturing the real life experience of living with an emotional teen aged girl! I have already survived that experience and will testify that it can be very, very unpleasant! Yes, Dawn's behavior got on my very *last* nerve, but because it was so realistic!

I admit that I am slow to give Dawn the props she probably richly deserves.

I think one of Dawn's finest moments is when she stun-guns Xander!

                      I just saw this thread!

I love Dawn and I think she's an awesome character that doesn't deserve all the hate she gets! And whilst her arc has been probably one of the most hit and miss things in season eight for the fans, I for one loved it! I never realised how much I liked Dawn until season 8 came around and she’s quickly moving up the ranks of my favourite characters. She’s grown into a really mature young woman.

                      My favourite Dawn moments have to be;

The Gift: When she tries to run past Buffy and jump off the tower. Everyone focuses on Buffy’s heroic sacrifice in that episode but no one ever mentions how Dawn was prepared to do the same thing. I’m not trying to downplay what Buffy did and she was an amazing person for doing it but Dawn should get some credit as well. We see her try and get past Buffy to jump and she’s also trying to explain to Buffy why she has to let her go. It was a really good moment for Dawn because she cared about the world more than herself. In fact, she’s very similar to her sister in Prophecy Girl when she was ready to sacrifice herself.

Potential: The final scene between Dawn/Xander is so sweet and adorable. I think I like the scene more for Xander because he tells Dawn how extraordinary she is but I also just think MT does a wonderful job in that scene. She makes Dawn so endearing and vulnerable. I love at the end when Xander walks away and Dawn takes a breath before returning to the books. It was a great moment for her, she may not get noticed and she may not be a potential slayer but she’ll still help out and do research even if it goes uncredited.

The Long Way Home: I love when she sneaks up on Amy and finishes Xanders; “Say it with me now.. Fe, fi, fo” and then Dawn.. “fuc#kin fumb!” Then takes Amy down. It was wonderful!

Wolves At The Gate: Dawn transporting into Tokyo and going.. “Hi.. Um.. I mean? Roar?”

Living Doll: I think this was a really positive step for Dawn because she was finally able to reconcile with Buffy and also with what she had done to Kenny. I think it was a great idea for the spell to wear off after she genuinely apologised to Kenny for cheating on him. I think she didn’t deserve to be put through the ringer as much as she was but it helps you forgive her character to see the price she had to pay for making that mistake.

As for who I’d want to see Dawn get together with? Probably Xander as well. It does seem like the comics may be taking that direction and they’ve had some really great moments this season. Xander has really looked out for her and she confided in him about Kenny when she couldn’t to either Buffy or Willow. I love that Xander went to the Wiccan’s to ask for all her clothes to be made bigger and that he was pressuring Buffy to go make up with Dawn in The Long Way Home. He also managed to keep her secret for a pretty long time which is hard to do in the Buffyverse I’d prefer Buffy/Xander any day but Xander/Dawn would suit me fine. They make a really good team.
