  • Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Sacrifice (New Video Game!)

It looks to take its cues from the well received Xbox exclusive title from way back when in 2002, employing a third person take on Buffy as she battles through 24 levels in an attempt to seal the re-opened Hellmouth. The story itself is penned by Rob Deshotel, writer of numerous episodes of the TV series throughout its six year reign, seeing Buffy return to Sunnydale after the cataclysmic events of the seventh and final season of the show.

Romanian developer Beast is busy preparing the game for its release this autumn, so in the meantime take a stroll around the virtual gallery below to gorge yourself on a whole world of new screens.

Dude... It doesn't take place in Season 8, but it'll definitely work. Maybe if it does well, we'll get more?

I agree, a Wii game would be extremely fun because if the staking. Also, for a Mini-game, they could do something similar to "Link's Crossbow Challenge." Hopefully, if this game does well, they'll do another on a different console. The DS is probably a little bit easier to make a game for so it's perfect for testing things out. If it bombs, they tried. If it does well, the can expand. Either way, it just shows that there's interest in making a new Buffy video game, which makes me happy.

Though, I'm kind of disappointed that the storyline seems like it's all of the place, the Master, Spike, The First, Caleb, and Angel are all mentioned... Either way, my expectations are low. Though, it'll probably at least be fun so I can look past a crappy storyline. I wish they'd make a *canonical* video game that shows the events between Season 7 and 8, it'd be the perfect way to do so. Written by Joss or someone else who's trusted, and connected to Season 8, if possible.

I just wish it was on a better console. For years I've wanted another Buffy Video game, one that matches the brilliance of the first game and not the second I might add, and now we get it on a Nintendo hand held? Why not xbox 360 or Ps3 or even WII?

And yeah the story is rather odd.. but I never expected a story to be canonical it's just an odd choice.

Well, like I said in my previous post, it's probably cheaper to make a DS game than the others. So, they don't have to go all out with it, but can still get away with. If it sucks, well, it's only on the DS, so it's not like most people are expecting much. I'm not saying the DS isn't capable of having amazing games, the "Castlevania" DS series begs to differ, but the first-person format that is being used, I don't think there's really been a great one for the DS yet.

If it's received well, there will probably be more. They probally just want to know if the casual fans, who may not even know about Season 8, are still interested in Buffy.

Also, E3 is next week, we'll probably get more information on this, or any other, game.

I'm actually really happy that it is on the Nintendo DS, 'cause that's all I have, that and a gaming computer. What would really be cool is if it came out as a computer game.

There are no new games of XBox, so even if they make another game, it won't be on the XBox. Sorry to disappoint

I've honestly only played Chaos Bleeds. It was okay. Is the made for XBox game better, cause I have an XBox

The made for XBox game is definitely much better.

I'm deciding whether to buy a Nintendo DS just to play this (although I will play other games on it too) or to see what you guys think of it before making a decision.

If they do make a new game for the next-gen consoles I hope they make it canon and get as many of the original cast to do their voices. I'm thinking of a game with gameplay similiar to the first Buffy game on XBox where if you used a shovel it could take a vamps head off, mixed with the characters (and more) from Chaos Bleeds. Maybe the Scythe as a weapon.

The one for the Xbox was great. But depending on how it is (the new one for the Nintendo DS) I would wait first for some reviews. But if you would buy the DS to play other games on it to then it's worth it. Ultimately, it's your choice!

I heard about this game. It seems really cool, but I don't have a DS, I also heard that it's only coming out for the UK.

I was really happy when I heard about this, I mean, I loved Chaos Bleeds and the Xbox game, the latter over the matter, and I've played Wrath of the Darkhul King which was made for Nintendo Gameboy Advance.

As games went the one for handheld was pretty so-so, I mean, the plot was kind of stupid with the Gentlemen returning and Buffy being able to kill Adam with a few attacks and having a boulder fall on top of him, but the vampires and demons were quite fun to beat up, the range of weapons was pretty good too, the way you could combine certain things, such as a battle-axe and hellfire, although the Glove of Myhnegon (spelling?) was there, I didn't get that.

So, weighing up that as a handheld experience and seeing the screenshots for this I have mixed feelings about it, I mean, the graphics aren't that great, considering it's practically 3D, but I suppose with a handheld you can't expect as much as with a game for TV playage, but, I don't know, the storyline seems kind of stupid to me, with the return of old characters and having it set in Sunnydale after it was destroyed, but I don't have a DS, so I think I'll wait for reviews on it before I get my hopes up on buying one. (Not that I'd buy a DS just for this game 'cause there are other games I'd play on it too.)

"Spike: Saved the world, didn't I?
Angel: Once. Talk to me after you've done it a couple of times."

I'm not being funny, but judging by this thread there are hardly any members here who have a Nintendo DS and who seem apprehensive about buying one to play this game and the people who do have one are few and far between, I think the makers of this game should think about making it for all platforms considering how well it could sell because to me it sounds like most people have games consoles, just not this one and therefore the sale figures are gonna be worse than they could've been and it'll be less likely to get another new game for other consoles, if that is, indeed, the intention behind this one in the first place.

Although frankly I'd be more excited about an Angel game, but then again I'm not sure when I'd want it set because it'd be cool to play as Illyria, but then you couldn't play as other characters that game before her, so I'm in two minds.

And wasn't there talk of a Serenity game at some point?

I guess there's chance of a new game now considering how well the comics are selling, so, like others have said, it seems likely that the makers will see how well this game sells before deciding on another one for a broader selection of consoles.

Also, now that 20th Century Fox can make video games from their shows because of something they've got recently, like a license, it seems more likely as Buffy and Angel were probably two of Fox's most successful shows considering the fanbases and how the shows still live on even though Buffy's been finished for 5 years and Angel for 4.
