The Ultimate Re-Run

Hello! This forum has decided to start a re-run for all of Buffy and Angel! All 254 episodes in a row! :eek:

Every week on Wednesday, starting this Wednesday (3/5/08), we will discuss the latest Buffy or Angel episode. Once we get to Season 4 of Buffy, the Buffy and Angel episodes will run together at the same time

On this Wednesday we will start with "Welcome To The Hellmouth"/"The Harvest" (both episodes!). Remember to post if you liked the episode/disliked the episode, but say why. Doesn't have to be very lengthy, just give some details.

Let's enjoy the re-run of one of the best television shows ever made!

I am definately in for this! My Wednesday nights are empty in the area of TV shows and of course it would be nice to have lengthy discussions about the BTVS episodes in the order they come here since I wasn't a member at the time they were airing! I shall definately be watching it this week lol...

Jeez why couldn't you do this when Eric and I started Ben. I'm already on season 5!!!! Granted I don't watch Angel so I would be out of the loop once you guys get to where I am now. Man! I'm so disappointed. Once you guys get to I Robot You Jane I will for sure come in here and tell you my opinion on why I think we all hate it though. You can look forward to that.

and 2. I just wanted to pop in and say to all those folks who haven't yet watched Angel: this si the perfect opportunity to do so!!! You are sooooo missing out and I (as well as many other fans) feel that AtS is the superior of the two series. So y'all should get on board and rent it or buy it or whatever. This is an excellent opportunity to watch it with other fans and discuss it as you go!

Jenni I know you're talking about me! No I can officially say that I've seen Angel, when it was on tv, but I didn't like it enough to go and buy all the dvd's so I can rewatch all the episodes I didn't like the first time, again and again. *shrugs* Btw hey Jenni. Haven't seen you in awhile.

Yay ill definatley be joining in with this ... although i probaly wont give my reviews on wednesday because i have to wait until i get to college the next day to visit the sight,, but ill sure review them by the following wednesday..., i think this is a great idea and im really looking forward to it... i havent got the angel series (well ive got series one and prat two of season 2 but there on video, and i brok emy video player) but ill definatly do the buffy eps.. i havent watched buffy in a while actually theyve just been sat in their box... so looking forward to watching welcome to the hellmouth/the harvest tonight... HAVE A GOOD RIDE PEOPLE !

I'll start off the reviews with my WTTH thoughts, and then The Harvest thoughts later

Welcome To The Hellmouth

I thought this was an okay premiere to a great series. The writing was very Joss and it was hilarious and just great, but in a lot of the scenes the acting and score is way over the top, and laughable. The special effects, are, obviously, horrible. But, Willow/Xander/Buffy is a joy and it's great to see them coming together. I forgot how nerdy Willow was

Writings
A quite fresh and funny opening for BtVS, with a lot of great lines and a subtil way to introduce the mythology, the writings for the vampires are awful.

Direction
Nothing, it's direction at its most simple form, nothing, so nothing good.

Drama
I don't necessarely expect drama for an opening, so it doesn't really bother me.

Comedy
Xander and Cordelia really take care of the comedy side with a lot of good lines and the interaction between Buffy and Giles is really great.

Action
The fights between Buffy and the vampires are boring, nothing exciting or particularly impressive in it.

A nice approach but in terms of Series Premiere, I've seen better.

I'm one of those who haven't watched Angel (well I did but only 3 or 4 episodes) but I do plan on buying the series soon.

Welcome to the Hellmouth - This first ep is very entertaining. We have the introduction of the Scooby gang, Cordelia, Giles and some great dialogue. In fact, what I love the most about this first season is the dialogue. Sharp and witty dialogue. 8/10

About Angel, I?m on season 3 and I already ordered season 4.

My abridged review of The Harvest.

The Harvest

I liked this episode a whole lot more. Again, the cheesy costumes and special effects bring it down more and some really lame and cheesy lines also bring it down. But, I generally liked this episode. However, since the end of the episode consisted of about the lamest fight scene I have ever scene, I'll have to bring it down to my okay score:

Awful, the big bad is at the bronze, Buffy goes to the bronze, Buffy kills the bad guy. No twist, no plot, no nothing and again the vampires writings are awful, especially Luke's.

Direction
The worst direction of the entire show, so cheap, and not only a money issue, the music and sounds are awful and so annoying, I see there's tension, I don't need a stupid sound to understand it! The editing is really bad, the cinematography is...did you see any? Just awful.

Drama
Yep, still waiting, I was hoping for some after WTTH stuff but no. Jesse is dead wow wow...Don't care!

Comedy
Because it's supposed to be the Action/Drama part of the two parts episode, there's not really room for Comedy which would be okay if there were actually Action and Drama in it.

Action
Really bad again, the big fight between Buffy and Luke is pityful, could someone explain me how someone who fights like that and is so stupid could have survived so long?

I think the Harvest is entertaining, at least. This ep is a little weird, but I?m too focused on the gang to even notice the bad plot. One of the things I love about S1 is the interaction and dialogue.

While I agree with the dumb plot thing going on, but I thought the dialogue between the gang, like buffyholic, was fantastic and truly Joss-like. And while there may be no amazing things happening for direction, was the direction really THAT bad?

Oh yeah, really bad!! And that sound, THAT SOUND!! The last scene at the bronze, everytime someone's doing something there is this kind of jingle, the most cheap, lame jingle in history. Buffy jumps on the pool table: "tiloulilong"! Buffy cuts a vampire's head: "tiloulilong"! Willow throws holy water on Darla: "tiloulilong"! Buffy punches Luke: "tiloulilong"!
I can't bear that "tiloulilong". You know what I'm talking about right?
