  • James Marsters' Current Projects

Oops... I just found out that we've all been chatting about James' parts in the wrong spot. So...here it is the official chat about James Marsters' new roles, interviews, and music thread. Here we can share updates, reviews, anticipation, excitement and disappointment. (Like how he never plays a concert anywhere near me. )

I'll start us off by mentioning my unequaled anticipation of his Torchwood appearance (on January 26, 2008 on BBC America!!!! ) and my frustration over his total lack of appearance on Without a Trace. (I keep watching, but he's never there.)

So my fellow fangirls...let's chat James.

Huh. That's weird. I haven't been watching but I read forever ago that's he's supposed to have a multi-episodic arc. I mean, I read that long before the fall season started. I thought for sure he would have an appearance or two by now.

According to his imdb.com profile, in the near future he is signed up to play Ted Bundy in a miniseries called "Chasing the Devil", a supporting character in Hilary Swank and Gerard Butler's new film "PS I Love You" and the villain in a live action film of "Dragon Ball Z"

The Hilary Swank film looks great, has a good cast (Hilary Swank, Kathy Bates, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Gina Gershon).

Oh he has already been on it, but 'blink and you'd miss him' type of appearances. Now what little story his character did have lined up has been cut dead by the writers strike.

I've heard from a friend that his next WAT episode appearance is December 6th.

It was supposed to be a 5 episode arc - so we've got 3 to go...

P.S. I Love You is scheduled for premiere December 21st

and... Smallville appearance is January 8th - 2008.

Looks like from the YouTube vids of the Cardiff gig of November - he was able to play a few songs before the finger gave out... Then he became Kareoke James!

He was on the first and (I think second episode) for a total of like three minutes. The TV Guide article gave the impression that his role was going to be more significant, especially when they pointed to his role as a reason to watch without a Trace over ER. Now it's been like six weeks since those two small appearances...hence the depression. I wonder what happened.

PS I Love You comes out December 21. They've already started playing commercials...I haven't spotted him yet but maybe when they make different versions.

I'm really excited about the Smallville appearance in January. Of course that means I should get caught up before then. (I haven't even watched last season yet.)

I have. He's is on of the commercials for a half a second and you can only see like 1/4 of his face.

Yeah, that TV Guide article was misleading! But I don't typically watch WaT. Occasionally I'll catch a rerun on TNT (here in the States). But they made it seem like he was supposed to have a multi-ep arc involving human trafficking and working with the Marianne Jean-Baptiste character.

My hubby loves WAT, so we watch every week and if you didn't KNOW it was him, you wouldn't know. (I was watching for him because I saw his name in the opening credits.) And I was so disappointed at the smallness of his role! I didn't know it was supposed to only be a mini-arc, I was hoping he'd be a permanent character, on and off again.......darn, I've been looking for him ever since!

I have to admit that I find shows like WAT quite boring really. I like a little fantasy and 'spice' with my TV fare, so out of his projects so far I'm looking forward to Torchwood the mosts, especially when it gives James the opportunity to play 'dress up' like this.......

Okay spurred on by this challenge-I watched the commercial last night in slow motion (really slow) and...I found him! He is in the group of people who get up as though concerned when Hillary Swank's character falls down during her karaoke "performance". He is in the left upper corner of the screen wearing a black shirt and a black headband (karaoke costume?)(God I hope he gets to sing-but I feel like it would have been mentioned by now if he did.) Anyway you can actually see his whole face as he is rising and then his hair is cut off at the top. He looks good.

I found an extended preview and here you can spot him at least three times. It's like where's waldo, only hotter. http://psiloveyoumovie.warnerbros.com/

Special thanks to sueworld! I don't know where you are finding those excellent pics but they've made my desktop very happy. I think I like the one without a gun best. He looks friendlier there.

I really want to see his "Without A Trace" appearance, because that show is great (for fans of procedurals, Nick Brendan also has a small recurring role with possibilities for more on "Criminal Minds").

But, I've got to say... those "Torchwood" pics look like the man lost a bet

Well considering how brief his appearances are on WAT and how (I have to say) bloody boring the dialog is) I think Torchwood is going to be the better bet out of the two.

I'm no fan of the show, but it is a lot of fun, and for a slasher such as my good self, it's 'hogs heaven'. *g*

No, not the best actor, but an extremely good one in my humble opinion.

A teaser image for his appearance in next years Smallvile.

I'm still not "gettin" that shirt in the Torchwood ad... I don't like it It should be black. It looks like moldy skin!

I must say the Smallville pic?? - OMG!!! I LOVE HIS HAIR!!!

Can't wait to see him Thursday!! Hope he's on longer this time. They did tend to blow that story arc way out of proportion of what we've seen so far.

                                  We're questioning James' acting now?

James was without a doubt the best male actor on the show. Hands down.

Tony is phenomenal.. don't get me wrong. He's an amazing actor.. but I've never once seen someone play so many characters and play a great bad ass villain AND an amazing good guy at equal ends. David is the only one where I've seen this.. and I'd say it'd go:

                                      James Marsters
                                      David Boreanaz
                                      Anthony Stewart Head

                                      in terms of acting.

                                        David Boreanaz
Now, like the Bringer in "Sleeper", you better hope that Tony Head's shoes squeek.

Honestly, I don't think David became an actor of either of their caliber until well after he was on his own show.

Personally, I feel that the role of Giles is more demanding than that of Spike precisely because everything with Spike is so broad... the comedy is broad, the villainous posturing is broad, the romantic drama is broad. The only times Marsters' performance really leaps out to me are when he has to play the subtleties in the character, which are *moments* in Spike's case. The Giles character is built of nothing *but* subtleties that Tony Head has to move around inside of.

What I still haven't seen is James Marsters in a role other than Spike, though -- I pretty much don't like Torchwood, though, gave up on it during the first season on BBC America. How is his Brainiac?
