Hey Everyone 
I wasn't sure if this was the right place to put this thread, but figured it would be the closest to it! Sorry if I am wrong. When I initially watched S5 and 6 of Buffy I found the character of Dawn to be insanely annoying and out of place. In S5 the only good thing that I found about her story was that it allowed for the introduction of Glory who happens to be my favourite big bad of the Buffy verse.
I was also glad when in S6 the importance of Dawn was cut down and found those episodes that focused mostly on the character of Dawn such as All The Way to be unneeded. It wasn't until S7 that the character of Dawn won me over and I felt as though I could fully appreciate her as a member of the Scooby Gang.
However after recently re watching S5 and 6 I found myself beginning to appreciate the character of Dawn in these Seasons. Though Dawn could be a whiny brat at times. She did have her moments in these series that now that I have re watched them has allowed for the character to win me over.
One of the key things that won me over about Dawn was several of her conversations with Buffy. Several times we have seen Dawn be a source of strength to Buffy. We have seen Dawn be there for Buffy when she is at her low; we have seen her being a sign of support to Buffy and vice versa and we have also seen the level of love and trust that has grown between the two

BUFFY: Are you okay? Did she hurt you?
DAWN: Why do you care?
BUFFY: Because I love you. You're my sister.
DAWN: No I'm not.
BUFFY: Yes you are. (Lifts Dawn's arm, so we can see her arm and hand are still bloody) Look, it's blood. It's Summers blood.
Buffy presses her hand against the tire-iron wound on her shoulder, wincing a little. She clasps her bloody hand in Dawn's bloody hand.
BUFFY: It's just like mine. It doesn't matter where you came from, or, or how you got here. You are my sister. (pause) There's no way you could annoy me so much if you weren't.
Dawn looks at her for a moment, then hugs her tightly. They both get teary-eyed.
DAWN: I was so scared.
BUFFY: Me too.

Dawn comes forward into the foyer. Buffy turns to look at her.
BUFFY: (voice breaking) Dawn.
She begins to sob. Dawn comes forward and hugs her.
DAWN: It's okay.
They sink to the floor, holding each other tightly and crying.
DAWN: It's okay.

BUFFY: (voice breaking) Dawn.

DAWN: Thanks.
BUFFY: (looks up) For what?
DAWN: You know. Pretty much everything.
BUFFY: (sarcastic) Yeah. I'm doin' a great job.
DAWN: (firmly) You are.
BUFFY: (scoffs) I'm the Slayer. The chosen one. All mythic and defender-y. Evil nasties are supposed to flee from me. Not the other way around.
DAWN: You're not fleeing. You're ... moving at a brisk pace.
BUFFY: Quaintly referred to in some cultures as the big scaredy runaway.
Dawn comes fully inside, closes the door and walks over to sit beside Buffy.
DAWN: It's the most amazing thing anyone's ever done for me.
Buffy looks over at her with a pained expression, then away.
BUFFY: (voice breaking) It just keeps coming. Glory ... Riley ... Tara ... Mom.
DAWN: (pause) I know. But there's a bright side.
BUFFY: There is?
DAWN: At least things can't get any crazier. Right?
DAWN: Thanks.
