  • Nostalgia, the scenes that is being missed by you

    Hey Guys..

I don't know if this happens to you but sometimes I really find myself missing, and being touched by some BTVS or ATS scenes.. like It's happy to remember the days I'm watching it. Do you guys have a scene like that in BTVS or ATS?

I start: I really missed the old Willow, that she's happy in high school. I really don't know why but she makes me happy in way and I really feel nostalgic like some teardrops fell and that stuff.

I also miss Buffy/Angel relationship, the pain, passion and the love was very pure and awesome. In s2 or s3 wow.

    Yours?

I get very nostalgic watching episodes such as 'Prophecy Girl' because the show had such a different feel to it then, the characters, the stories and the entire way the episode was set out was so different to how it was in later years. Sometimes I missed it and after watching it today I was very nostalgic.

I just posted earlier on the neverending discussion for the episode Witch and thinking how much I miss the characters the way they were then. Of course I can't say that things were more simple then because life always has it's complications.

I said that because I was thinking of the lines from a song " Could it be that it was all so simple then or has time rewritten every line?" Sorry I seem to associate things with songs when I feel sappy. Maybe the phrase " time has rewritten every line" would apply to what I'm thinking of. The later years were different times of course. That may say a lot also with the progress or deterioration of the human condition. Do we deteriorate as we mature? More evil stuff in general and it infected the characters. Yes, the early years seem to be more mellow even if the bad stuff were just as bad as the later years.

Even laughter was scarce in the later years. I think I stopped laughing in S5. That's creepy because sometimes in real life that's how it is. As we grow older and supposedly mature, "important" stuff get in the way of simple fun. The Scoobies grew older together and became more complicated people. Willow grew up and showed everyone how smart she really is and it ruined her relationships. I guess Xander was the only one who didn't really take himself too seriously. That's his gift. His simple heart saved Willow from her own arrogance and saved the world as well. Imagine how a simple speech about a yellow crayon defeated the evil in Willow. I guess that scene in the episode Grave belongs to the early years because Xander never left those years.

So I guess in general, I miss the laughter and the way they were.

I agree, their lives were never simple but were much more simpler than they were in later years. Buffy's character is never quite the same again after Prophecy Girl, the first experience of many to come that change the way Buffy is as a person.

Deteriorate is a really interesting word. One could say it was a cynical word, but I have to admittedly agree with you. All the horrible things that happened to our characters slowly did deteriorate them, they felt more pain and it hardened them, it wore them out. Our characters took a far more cynical approach to anything. Nothing was simple for them anymore, everything had consequences for them and this makes anyone tired. Speaking from personal experience, I only finished High School last year and already I feel that life isn't as fun anymore. I'm worn down, I'm tired, I'm more cynical and my relationship and friendships are more complicated than ever.

We could list endless things that made Buffy's life harder, I think slowly it grated on her. Willow is another big example of this.

I laughed during parts of s6 & s7 but agree that laughter wasn't as big in the later years.

But even this became more complicated in later years. Your absolutely right in saying that Xander continued telling jokes, like he did in the earlier years. However, something that we once took at face value suddenly became so much more complicated. In season six Anya tells Xander that he tells jokes to hide the fact he is just an insecure scared little boy, suddenly something that we took at face value suddenly has so many complicated and harsh layers. He isn't that innocent boy who tells jokes now to be funny, suddenly we realise that people are starting to notice or at least question why Xander tells these jokes, it is no longer something they just accept; suddenly there must be a reason. Notedly, his warm nature even becomes more than that, as you said he saves Willow by giving a speech about crayons. Xander's warm loving nature has a greater importance now, it isn't just loveable innocent banter, it is important on a global scale and for everyone around him.

        I really liked your post

I miss stuffy Giles sometimes. It was incredibly exciting (and dare I say it, kinda ... cool?) when he was wearing his tweed, and stuttering, and remembering his older-man jokes and his Oxford days lounging about reading in the sun - and so obviously taking Ethan on romantic boat trips - and then all of a sudden, the Ripper would emerge. A completely different side of him, or a deeply hidden part? It was intriguing to watch and find out. When he attacks Angel after he killed Jenny, the look of anger on Giles' face is genuinely scary. And then he breaks down in Buffy's arms ... it's just really moving.

But later on, he loses that duality, I think. TheRipper & ScoobyGiles are very much integrated into OverallGiles- not always, mind - but for example, Giles' plan with Wood to kill Spike is very bigger picture, and the good thing about Giles earlier was that despite his stuffiness, his position of authority, he always respected Buffy, and his refusal to go along with the 'greater good' (a la the Cruciamentum (sp?)) is what got him sacked from the Council. He loses his respect for Buffy in some ways in S7, hence their argument. I can't really blame him for this though - after all, people change, and his cynicism at times comes from all the experiences the whole gang have been through. But I do miss High School Giles sometimes.

I kinda miss s2&3 a lot, b/c that reminds me the times I watched those for the first time with friends and the highschool friendship in those seasons reminds me my school days... Its sorta afflictive to feel that its over.
