  • Angel saving Kate

Hello everyone I have a question that has been bothering me for a while. Way back when on the Epiphany episode Angel gets into Kate's apartment and saves her, at the end of the episode she tells Angel she never invited him in. I thought that event hinted at something greater than the powers that be or even what most religions refer to as God. But after that episode (besides the fact that Kate was never seen again) it seemed to me that the writers and that possible all powerful, yet good force was never touched on again.Did anyone else wonder something similar? Or am I completely dense and am making up something that wasn't there and it was simply stating Angel was on the right path.

Going with that I also wondered why they seemed to never tackle the "churches" views of God and the Devil. The terms Heaven and Hell are mentioned often but the all powerful beings that "run" them seem to be left alone in the idea that even the powers that be are beatable a can make mistakes.

I guess I am just curious on what Joss' concept would have been.

Re the episode, Kate referenced a higher power. She doesn't make it clear what and we have no evidence she knows of the PTBs. It may have been the PTBs that allowed Angel to enter, or they could have saved Kate's life.

Joss tends to steer away from direct references to God and when he does mention God he's deliberately vague. I think he wants to focus on mankind and their strengths. That and maybe because he's an atheist.

I agree with Kana, I don't believe it was ever meant to mean God, but then if as a viewer you choose to view it in that way it's entirely up to you, I guess it's kind of the point. I choose to think it was the PTB which seem to have an interest in Angel throughout his series, as well as in Btvs. It's an amazing moment though.

I think it was a way for Kate to make peace with Angel. For her to know that not every demon in the city is bad and that Angel is good. And it was for Angel to understand that there?s still plently of work to be done. Like he says, all we do is what matters. And I like to see it as a higher power, I don?t know if I call God or not.

Well, there has been many references to balance and opposing forces. TPTB VS W & H, etc. More Angel than Buffy......

And it's an awesome moment.....I need to rewatch that ep!
