  • Which Wesley do you prefer?

Do you like dorky Wesley or dark and tortured Wesley better?

I'm pretty sure I'm in the minority here but I like seasons 1 & 2 Wesley the best (although I do love his character throughout every season + him and Lilah are wonderful together ) I liked his goofiness and his friendship with the rest of AI before the baby snatching took place. I thought he was more likable in general and seemed to gain quite a cruel streak post-season 3 that was fun to watch but did make you question some of his methods.

So what do the rest of you think?

Oh definitely 'gun toting f*cked up Wesley'!

Although I liked his earlier incarnation too, I loved it when he got a lot darker, and his character became more complex and enriched because of it.

*ETA* Anyone who manages to keep a 'slave girl' caged up in his bedroom is fine by me! *hoots*

Season 4 Wes is my favorite, I think. Can't argue with the spring blades or the bitterness. Can't argue with the *brief* flashback to dorky, arrogant Wesley getting embarassed by trying to talk to Willow about pathos

Angsty Wes anytime. The writers weren't taking full advantage of Alexis Denisof's acting chops with Dorky Wes. I think I like him best in Season 5, especially in his interaction with Fred and Illyria.

I love the Wilah ship and I love the dark place Wes had to go to in order to have these interactions with Lilah. Love it. So based on these but fleeting moments with Lilah, I choose messed up dark edgy Wesley!

I didn't watch Angel as consistantely as I did Buffy, but from the episodes I saw it seemed like the dark tortured Wes had a lot more depth and was a much more interesting character. Definately an interesting transfomation to watch.

I still loved the Buffy season 3 Wes when he gets knocked down in the first 3 seconds of Graduation and can't seem to get back up. The dorky Wes just seemed to be the stereotypical stuffy english librarian. Theres only so much you can do with a character like that.

I preferred tortured wesley, I like how they gave his character more depth, I did love goofy wes because he had some really funny moments but he became more of the team late because he could help more.

I prefer tortured totally hot Wesley. He got rid of the suits, the stuffiness and just got plain sexy. I never really thought he was good looking on Buffy, then he turned up on Angel, and I was thinking "oh no..not him". He was so annoying. But he grew as the seasons went on and he became less geeky...still a bookworm but a sexy manly bookworm. I think what made him sexier was he seemed to stop trying so hard. He seemed to just become comfortable with who he was and that made he much more enjoyable to watch.

I really liked geeky Wesely I thought he was funny to watch in angel when he tried to be a rogue demon hunter I thought that was hilarious to watch, and then in spin the bottle episode wher he goes back to his geekiness is great I think, but like Risa said he was totally hot when he was tortured Wes, so I liked them both.

Tortured Wes without a doubt. There was so much more to him, and he was so damn hot! His relationship with Lilah was almost an awakening of the darker side (not so much tortured). When he got together with Fred (finally) he almost seemed to skip back to the light side again in a 'I can't watch this he is TOO happy' kind of way. Then during his relationship with Illyria he slipped even further into the torture and darkness. Tortured Wes didn't smile as much, and that was sad as he had a great smile. What can I say, I like my men a bit dark!

Haha, is this even a question?!

Tortured Wes, OF COURSE! Happy Wes was so boring, but funny. Season 4 Wes was amazing. His relationship with Lilah and Fred, pulling the weapon on Gunn, all of it. Wes was amazing in that season; one of my favorites.

Tortures Wes, yes. He was great in being all doom, and dark and cynical. He stopped believing in a world mostly black and white and decided to join in a grey one. Happy Wes has good moments too, mostly for laughs but as soon as he changes, we see a really dark, deep and amazing character.

The latter Wesley. I have to say that his extreme goofiness and eagerness to prove himself was annoying to me. The dark Wes was more layered and was no longer driven by more shallow goals. He had a real agenda and that just made him more interesting to me. And sexier too.

Can I choose middle of the way Wes? I love loyal Wes. The one that has just emerged out of the blinding ignorance of the Watcher's Council to see the world in shades of grey with unclear decisions. Wes and Gunn in the second half of S2 rule my heart.

Dorky Wes of S3 Buffy is unbearable to me. Could not stand him.

Tortured Wes of ATS S3 after losing Fred to Gunn and then having to deal with the prophecies is very delicious. Bad ass Wes in S4 is awesome. But foremost, I love the heart and openness of Wes in the earlier part of ATS.

                            Lydia made the punch!

I agree completely. Season 5 Angel was probably the best in any respect. Shame it had to end there.

Oh, yes. I agree. Generally, my favourite characters are cool, laid back characters that simply "knows what to do" and most importantly - don't freak very often! I really don't like people who freak out all the time, not on TV - not in real life. Sure, I like Wes in all AtS (not always on BtVS though - I agree with Ehlwyen he's just a tad too annoying) - but season 4-5 Wes is just cooler and (Jenni Lou and Risa said it first) plain sexier. Dorky Wes had some major hair issues e.g. However, I love it when the dorky, ex watcher side of him takes over sometimes and he just pulls up info or pour over books - in a tortured way of course
Oh, and as a side note - I think that I've always wanted to do what Wes do. Read old books and cross reference - find out things of the past. I'm a freak...

I love all versions of Wesley. Not so much season 3 Buffy Wes.. although the "The password? Monkey. *sighs* M-O-N-" is still pretty funny.
Really need a both option, but I voted for the later one. Mostly because it was so awesome to see the gradual transformation of a character. I don't think I've seen that on any other tv show (besides Spike on BtVS) or movie, and if it has been done it wasn't done nearly as well.

Hmm, I'm kinda on the fence with this one. Its really easy to respect tortured Wes, but dorky Wes is funny alot of the time, season three he seems rather adorable. I still voted for tortured Wes because of he and Fred briefly being happy. It really nice seeing Wes that way, however short lived.

I think "Tortured Wes" was a lot more interesting. "Dorky Wes" was more comic relief guy, but "Tortured Wes" was darker, but he had his moments when he was also funny. Plus, given that Season 3/4/5 were all pretty dark to begin with, it was better to not have all the jokes, it would have probably gotten annoying.

I think he was strongest in Season 4... I'm not sure how I felt about Vaguely Sociopathic Wes at Wolfram & Hart. After Fred died he became something... else.
