OK, so the poll is because I want to know who prefers which Bond, but this discussion discusses anything and everything about James Bond, from Sean Connery to Quantum of Solace, to the Bond Girls.

So, what did you think of Daniel Craig? Personally, I didn't like him as Bond. Yes, he's a good actor and all but I personally believe Bond should be tall, dark and handsome. Blonde is not an option. I know I'm stereotyping...but it's the way it should be.

As for QOS, don't get me started. No way should they have made a Bond sequel. They could have added an extra half an hour on Casino Royale and wrapped up the Vesper Storyline nicely and have QOS as a Bond film on its own.

Oh thank you Ahm Shere! I've always been a big James Bond fan but I cannot for the life of me warm up to Daniel Craig! He's just not James Bond.

I didn't appreciate the complete desentigration of a finally tuned machine!

And Craig - he's just not attractive. Lovely blue eyes but that's all.

I'm even disappointed in what I've heard so far about the changes they've made in the overall layout of the Bond films.

There are several elements of tradition that go into a Bond film:

    "Bond. James Bond"
"Vodka Martini - shaken not stirred."
    Wonderful enuendos
And finally, "MMMMmmm...James" at the end of every movie.

I was SO disappointed when Hugh Jackman turned down the role. He wold have been my only other choice after Pierce Brosnan.

He had the ability to do the stunts, had the look and deliver the enuendos.

For me Sean Connery will be the only Bond - second and close will always be Pierce - I'm just sorry it could not have been a little sooner for him - they let him get to old in between films - too much time went by.

This was the first time I've haven't seen a Bond film when it hit the theater. I keep trying to rent Casino Royale but I haven't made it to the counter yet. I just think of Craig as Bond. Blech!

I totally agree. Daniel Craig is just...not James Bond. Not at all. Not only because he's blonde, but because he is not as suave as James Bond is supposed to be.

I, for one, was guttered when Ewan McGregor turned down the role. He's tall, dark, handsome, suave. I can just imagine him saying 'Bond. James Bond.' And for all of you who don't agree with me on this one, watch Down With Love. You'll see what I mean.

This is where I disagree with you. Sean Connery is way down on my list. It's always going to be Brosnan...and Moore is a close second. Then Connery.

I didn't like Timothy Dalton though. I don't know, there was something about him I just didn't like.

I went to see Casino Royale twice in the cinema, I'm strange like that. It was alright, certainly not the best Bond movie ever, but QOS...I'm sorry, no-one can jump from that height without their legs buckling. Not even James Bond. 'Specially in Casino Royale. They tried to modern up James Bond too quickly and too much change is bad. Not only is it bad, it's terrible.

Here I was thinking I was the only female who truly enjoyed the Bond movies. My husband and I own like half the Bond movies. They are awesome. The movies have every aspect needed to make a great movie...sex, romance, action, and lots of cool toys.

My favorite Bond is Sean Connery. Sean Connery is, in my opinion, one of the sexiest men alive. Its his voice. He could read from my microwave manual and make it sound sexy. He is also one of the few men I can think of that can wear a pink shirt and make it look manly. Not just stylish...but manly. He was the perfect Bond. Pierce is my second choice. That man is just yummy. Then Roger Moore, who was just a blast to watch (have you ever seen him in Boat Trip?). Timothy Dalton is definitely at the bottom of the list.

Daniel Craig...good actor...crappiest Bond ever. First of all, blonde and blue eyes do not belong on Bond. The man looks uncomfortable in a suit and he is not attractive to me. The movie was not a good Bond movie. From the beginning they messed it up. Bond movies must have the musical girly opening. That is a trademark of the Bond movies. Songs are written just for that (best opening has to be Die Another Day..that was awesome). Anyway, Casino Royale would have been a good movie if they had not titled it a Bond movie. They ruined it. They should have picked a better actor to pay Bond and make the movie better. If they couldn't find a better actor, well maybe it was time to end the collection.

'suave', that is precisly what Bond must be and what Danial Craig is not.

Sean and Pierce are easily the best to me, maybe sean somewhat more so but Pierce gets points for being consistantly good and for being exceptional in goldeneye which is my favourite (Bond) movie of all time.

In an ideal world Bond would be played by Hugh Jackman, Ewan or sean benn (wouldn't really work due to him playing 006 in goldeneye but oh well).

Exactly. Daniel Craig is an exceptional actor, but in Bond...it's just...NO! In an interview, someone...it may have been Craig himself, said that a body double had to stand in for the romance scenes, because Craig didn't think he was 'that good'. Well I'm sorry, but if you are going to play James Bond, you have to at least play the intimate scenes yourself. Because otherwise, what's the point??

NOPE! I'm right there with you!! But I'm strange that way - I love action movies much more than romantic comedies. I always tell my GF I would rather rent a chick-flick but I want to watch action at the theater!

In regards to James Bond - I know as a female I'm not supposed to like the old "misogynist dinosaur" but I think it's because it's James Bond that I love these films! He's so charming and sauve he makes chauvenism an "Oh-so-pleasant" thing to be a part of!

Right there with you! Sean Connery has just grown sexier and sexier as the years go by - he s a superb actor and he will always be the best Bond.

I think that's why I'm not crazy about him. I just do not find the man attractive AT ALL! He's "hulkish" and square.

I'm a big Tom Hanks fan and love most of his movies. "Road to Perdition" was the first place I ever saw Daniel Craig. Granted he was playinig a dark character, but his overall appearance lended the "thug" look they were going for.

And YES! Where is the wonderful songs and girl dances? They are part of what people want to see when they go to a Bond movie!

OH spidol!!! You are a Sean Bean fan too!!! LOVE LOVE LOVE me some Sean Bean!!

And Goldeneye is my favorite Bond movie as well!

I remember sitting in the theater being so excited that Pierce Brosnan was FINALLY going to be James Bond! And when the opening part of the movie started with 006 and 007 - I was like WOW! Who is that guy playing 006!?! He almost stole my heart from Pierce!

Love the lines: "Blow 'em all to Hell, James!"

No, there apparently are some girls around who like Bond. My sister, for example (who normally doesn't like action movies much, though she makes exceptions). I invited her to Quantum of Solace yesterday evening in celebration of her last exam (which she totally pwned), and she enjoyed it. Her favourite is The World is not enough, though, and her favourite Bond is Pierce Brosnan.

I voted Daniel Craig. Yes, he is completely different and atypical. But then again, I belong to a new generation of viewers, so to say, and have seen only part of the older movies, so the traditions don't worry me that much. And what I like about him is that especially in Casino Royale (which is my favourite, apart from GoldenEye) he appears not as the cool guy who can handle everything, but as very human.

Finally people I can talk to. I've been loosing my head each time I've mentioned I didn't like Craig.

To me, Sean Connery is and always will be Bond, James Bond. Unlike many of you though, Timothy Dalton comes as a close second *ducks from flying objects*

When I found out Daniel Craig had been chosen as Bond, all my desires to ever watch another Bond movie was terminated. I've seen him before Bond and I was never impressed by his acting skills. He doesn't have the charisma and the 'manlyness' (even if he's manly, if you understand what I mean) that Bond needs from his actor. The surface irk was the blond and blue eyes, though I agree, he's got beautiful blue eyes, but it's not Bond. He doesn't have that sparkle in his eye for being mischievous one moment and deadly the next. He doesn't contain 'it' that Bond is through and through. (and I get so damn annoyed by his mouth *lol* he just keeps puckering it more than needed.. or so it feels. )

Then when they decided to change Bond himself. Going back to the beginning. That just put the final nail in the coffin. They have no grasp at the character of Bond. Of course we don't get the classic martini comment because Bond hasn't established what drink he prefers, there's only been hints at it but nothing specific. The stories they've been running with so far has just had me going for my pillow. Again, no grasp on how to portray Bond before he really becomes the Bond we know and love. This last movie just killed me completely. I was dragged to the movies against my own will (I'm not kidding!) and I was utterly bored all the way through. It was just explosion upon explosion upon explosion, and did I mention upon explosion? Not to mentioned we had a chase in every way possible - car, by foot, boat and plane. The story felt so thin, just an excuse to play with fireworks, and Bond himself continued to disappoint. He's more annoying than 'fun'.

I don't blame Craig all the way through and through though, some of it is the continued screwups by the screen writers. An actor can after all only go so far with a character when restrained by the writing.

And then we have the signature opening and the signature Bond style. The opening has always been amazing and a movie in itself, a thing one looked forward to along with the movie, wondering how it was gonna look this time and that time. They really disappointed in that area as well, not only is the intro horribly lame and very bad, the choice of songs they've picked for Bond is TERRIBLE! Where is the extra 'OOMPH' we got from Tom Jones, Tina Turner, Carly Simon, Lulu and so many others? The deliverance is flat and common these days.

Dad said the perfect thing after having seen the movie - the coca cola commercial before the movie which did a Bond-styled intro to their commercial was BETTER than the actual Bond intro. It's very true and horribly sad that a commercial does it better than the real mccoy.

And the signature Bond-Style. Where is all the Bond-women? Where is the breakthrough effects that always defined Bond. The effects we've never seen before and was amazed at when they entered the screen, leaving us with gaping mouths wondering how they did that. It's all missing. It's all very common. Basically they can just change the name of Bond to something generic and just call it an action movie, because that's what it is.

                  It is no longer Bond.

This is EXACTLY why I fear prequels. Good lord, lets hope they don't destroy Star Trek like this.

I'm going to be a pariah here. My favourite Bond is Roger Moore. I'm afraid partly because I just love him in The Persuaders! I watched The Persuaders when I was little and had such a crush on Roger Moore!

Also I totally love Daniel Craig. I was sort of ... meh ... when I heard he'll be playing Bond. Because I had seen him in other movies and TV and thought him to be nothing special. But when I saw him in Casino Royale I absolutely changed my mind! (That scene with Bond coming out from the sea, all muscle-y, helped of course )

I can tell you where the Bond girls are. They have been retired. I read an interview in Playboy magazine with Daniel Craig. They want to make Bond movies less misogynist (or however that is spelt). Meaning women are going to be less sex objects and more "powerful". That is crap. That is not what Bond movies are about. It is about a good looking man in a suit doing the mission while he gets the chick..over and over again. That is Bond. To change it is ridiculous. They also don't want to put tons of techy toys in the movies. They are gonna have Bond without his toys and women. The new "Bond" is going to be harder...more emotion...less about the women and the fun stuff. They have ruined it.

I had seen him in Tomb Raider and the mere idea of him in a serious role cracked me up. I was al like, "What the hell?? He'll always be Alex Winter to me!" But Casino Royale convinced me as well. (it was more the acting and less the muscly sea bit, though )

Dana, don't worry. You can keep your head. I intensely dislike people who attack others for not agreeing with them. I liked Craig, you didn't, and both of us are entitled to have those opinions.

Risa, I disagree there. Maybe that's because I'm not an old fan, but why not change the style of a series when times change? Besides, I find strong women a lot more attractive than those who are nothing but nice to look at and a convenient shag.

*facedesk* this is just sad. How can they even consider doing this? The fact is, this is prequels, then they might wanna stop to think how this relates to the older movies where the Bond women are all over the place and Bond is who he is. It just break his entire character and doesn't relate to anything we've learned before. Where's the frikkin' logic?? This "bond" is a bleak imitation of the real McCoy and it's just sad to see how they're burning down the house and dancing inside it while it burns to the ground, cheering.

Bloodsucker thanks hun! I couldn't agree more, I hate when people can't respect each others opinions when they differ *sigh*

                              Right back at you, Dana!

Eh, Miss Peroxide, Craig is soooo not hot in my opinion. My potential (as in, 5% or so) gay side can't kick in there.

Hm, the prequel thing is a dilemma of course - less about the girls, more about the modern technology and no more cold war etc. Nowadays nobody wants to see evil Russians anymore (well, maybe some rather backwards kind of people ), and modern technology has more appeal, so we get a modern Bond. The character is the same, but he has been moved in time, so to say, and is created anew. To me, the old and the new Bond are only loosely connected.

The technology has been a factor for me as well. Suddenly we have cellphones, modern cars (as in 2008/2009 cars), laptops and god knows whatever, things Bond doesn't have in Dr.No ->

I'm also missing Q. Even if we might not have met Q as in THE Q, the department should be around at least, but we haven't seen much of that either.

I'm curious if he will turn up again, and also curious if there will be another Moneypenny.

I am not sure if Q will show up, as they want to make BOnd more tough and emotion, and less dependent on high tech gadgets.

My husband calls Daniel Craig the "Gay Bond". In Casino Royale he leaves a woman to go do his work. Bond would normally have sex than go do his work. My husband said that if they had just changed the guy's name to anything besides Bond and called it an action flick the movie would have been great. But they called it Bond...so Casino Royale sucked. Once they got rid of Pierce they should have stopped making movies. Or at least gotten someone that looked more Bond-ish and they should never have changed the dynamics of the movie.

Again, I like it, and I like the changes, but we all have our own opinion.
And he does have sex with Solange in Casino Royale, remember?

What were people's reaction to a female M, by the way? Personally I think Judi Dench is great in the role, but I guess that choice got some objections as well.

I think she ment the other woman, the married one who turned up dead later on - forgot her name though.

Judi Dench does a really great job as M and I love her work, one of the few things that I don't have anything against these days! She gives us more of M than we've gotten before which I'm loving
