Questions and Issues around the Forum Upgrade

Ok we are upgraded to the latest version today.

And you will notice a few little difference, the biggest being the user profile, if you look at your profile you can see that it is much more extensive. Starting with you can complete edit the way it looks, people can leave you messages and you can show any friends, social groups.. probably much more too!

What are the Tags. what do they do?

What are tags?
Tags are a useful way to search for threads with similar subject matter and content. This compliments the normal search system, which searches only for certain words or phrases and/or posts by specific users.

To use tags, you add words or phrases to threads to help describe the content. For instance, if the subject matter is 'photography' then you can add the tag 'photography' to the tag list. But you could also add tags like 'digital image', and 'camera' (depending, of course, on the nature of the thread).

This will categorize this thread with all other threads that have matching tags, whether or not they have the word 'photography' in them.

Who adds the tags?
Tags are initially added to threads by the user who started the thread. Other users may also be able to add and remove tags.

How do I use tags?
Tags are displayed in a box near the bottom of a thread page. Clicking on a tag will allow you to view other threads that have the same tag - and which may be related. Clicking on the word 'Tags' in the top of the box will take you to an overview page with a 'tag cloud.'

This cloud allows you to see which tags are the most popular - the larger the word, the more times it has been used on threads within the board. There is also another tag cloud on the advanced search page that shows you the tags that have been searched for (or clicked on) the most.

Um, on my profile page, I hit the "disappear" button for Recent Visitors and Social Groups by accident, and now they won't come back up. Help?

Yeah. I had this same exact problem. I ended up clearing all my cookies to get them to come back. You may try just logging in and out and see if that resets it first.

btw, what type browser are you using?

When you mean the disappear button do you mean the upward arrows to minimize it?

Try going to the default style set, the other styles will not function 100% as they werent created for this version of the forum.

If you have any questions, the built in FAQ linked on the top menu next to User CP is pretty helpful. Its all a lot of new things at the moment!

The "Add it Ignore List".....if you select this for a member does that mean that all of their posts are hidden from your view. Just curious. I like that idea.

I'm with you on this one. I just checked and yeah. It went down considerably.

But it does rock too! Still trying to figure it all out atm.

I don't know what could be up with the loss of rep. Mine has remained intact, as well as many other members as far as I can tell. That's a strange outcome to a forum upgrade though.

Jenni it's not the amount of rep that we have that went down, it's the POWER! Muahahaha. We haven't lost any of our points just the amount we're able to give others.

I'm okay about a lowered rep power actually. I'm now giving out about 42, I think. And that's still a lot. Especially compared to what most folks are giving. So, yeah. Fine by me.

Yep I reduced the amount of rep people give and receive, it shouldn't have effected the rep you currently have, if it has I'm sorry but it was high for a whole year so people could make up what they lost when BW went down. But we don't want to end up a forum where everyone has 1000's of points and give our 500 at a time.

I also took the requirements to be VIP up a bit as they were low again to encourage people coming over with nothing from BW.

The add to ignore list does mean you don't see a members post. I'm not sure if it will let you ignore their posts in the sections you moderate Jenni Lou but I've never tried. It's a great option for those really not wanting to read someone's opinion

Glad to see lots of people enjoying the features from the upgrade and decorating their profiles

So I do have one other question, and shoot me if I'm dumb and overlooking it...but how do we get the 'albums and pictures' box on our profile?...I saw another profile with it, and I'd love to do that but I can't find it on my control panel.
