  • Weird issue with rep. points

    It seems I can't give them to Dana. I know this sounds stupid, but it's just happened for the second time, in this post. (The other time was a couple of weeks ago and I don't remember the link).

    I click the , fill out the box in the pop-up window, then click Add to reputation button - and nothing happens: the pop-up won't go and the "Thanks..." message won't appear. I tried refreshing the page. And I don't think it's my browser 'cause with other members, I don't have this problem. I'm confused Help?

    That's really odd. I just tested and I was able to rep Dana for that post. And it's just Dana.. can you try another random post of hers to rep and see if the same thing happens?

      I've just tried this post, with same lack of result.

        That's really weird. I have no idea what it could be causing that. I will make a post on the Vbulletin help forum and see what they say. What browser are you using? They always ask!

            Sorry for the obvious and stupid question. But you didn't rep Dana in the last 10 times? Cause you can't rep someone shortly after another. It should however say that as an error though.
            And eh.. upgrade to IE7
            It's a MUCH better browser
            You'll see more sites will work better then....

              They can't be it because the little box wouldn't even roll down for her to add a message; it would automatically reveal a pop-up stating she can't rep the same person yet. So I don't think that this is the case.

              And maybe an upgrade isn't a bad idea. I haven't used IE in ages because I just can't stand it anymore. So, at the very least, an upgrade is a good suggestion as perhaps it is a minor IE bug preventing this action. Although, I don't understand why you would be able to rep others and yet not Dana. :/

                Zugma, you can also try the following:

                1) try using a different browser;
                2) try again with IE 6.0, but from another PC if you can get access to one;

                If those work, we can reasonably say that the forum is not generating this issue. By the way... try to empty your browser's cache, cookies and history. Then try again... good luck!!

                  Clearing cookies does always seem to work wonders. A pain though.

                  Here's another probably fruitless suggestion. Could it be the length of the reputation comment? Maybe try a very short one?

                  My logic. I know the "edit" function that comes up within the thread will hang if the post being edited is significantly long. So I always have to click the "go advanced" button. Anyway what you describe seems similar with the function seeming to stall.

                  Or perhaps the speed of your internet? Are you using dial up?

                    That wouldn't be it. When the message is too long, it just won't let you type anymore. I've has this happen to me. I'm not sure how many characters are permitted in a rep message, but it is a good amount. Nonetheless, you won't get an error for going over. The same thing happens when you try and type in a custom user title that is too long....it just won't let you type past a certain set # of characters.

                      I've had a reply on the Vbulletin forum and they do suggest upgrading your browser or switching to Firefox (apparently they are all very anti IE over there!)

                      It wouldn't really be a cookie problem and the forum does let you write a decent amount in a rep box but try just typing 'test' or similar when you rep her. And definitely IE7 is sooo much better than IE6!

                        Thanks for the suggestions guys I just tried to give the rep without any comment at all, and it worked. Although, I have no idea why it wouldn't *with* the comment 'cause like Jenni Lou said, if it was too long the board script wouldn't let me type the comment in (and this happened to me a couple of times before so I know the feature works with my browser)

                        Yeah, I know that upgrade is a good idea. Unfortunately, my OC doesn't think so If I have problems again, I'll just try to install Firefox and see if it helps, I guess!

                        I have the same problem with the edit function, only for me it doesn't depend on the post's lenth, it freezes all the same. So I'm not sure it's the commnet lenth that causes the glitch with rep. points... And nope, I have cable (not a high-speed one, but it's about 10 times faster than dial-up, still.)

                        It's just weird. Oh well... Thank you all again %)

                          I know. But I thought that the amount of information having to be sent might be what was stalling each. Neither are advanced editing screens which seem to be the most powerful. But I know almost nothing of web coding and scripts so I'm just grabbing ideas out of the clouds.

                          Glad it at least kinda worked! Very weird...oh wait, I know! On days that start with T you need to stand on one foot, hop around, and cross your eyes while trying to rep members whose username ends in the same letter as yours.

                            Of course! I should have thought about that myself! %)))
